Film help please

Featured Replies

So, ages ago a mate of mine, who was quite a film buff, told me I really needed to see a film... but I can't remember what it was.

So, here is the synopsis: I believe it was made by Dutch film students, but it could be scandinavian. It is VERY violent, and I think it is about a bank robbery gone wrong. I have heard it somewhat inspired Resevoir Dogs. I also belileve that it has the name "Dog" in the title.

Thanks in advance

Scott

Thanks, but that's not it Chippy. Guess I'm doomed on this one. I know the one you are refering to, it's an asian one with Chow Yun Fat, and I think it's where Tarantino got the 'lets go to work" phrase from.

This one was by film students, I'm sure. And someone described it as 100 times more bloody than Resevoir Dogs.

I text my mate, and he cant even remember....damn it!

I've googled film students and dog for you in Dutch, and the only hit I could find was Liefde, Dood en Luchtgitaar (Love, Death and Air Guitar). Something about a woman in a toilet cubicle hearing a man's voice next to her. I'm not sure whether it's the one you're looking for, though.

Just a thought, but would it be a good idea to get back in contact with your mate who recommended this film? Or have you totally lost touch with him?

Don't be so disgustingly practical

Goodness knows what hornets' nest you're stirring up, they may have fallen out over a very painful matter, for all we know!

I know, but I thought it might be an effective way of burying the hatchet and doing a bit of male bonding discussing revoltingly violent films.

It may be practical, but he thought of it before you suggested it. How do I know this you ask?.. well...

:P

It's official - I'm a moron! :D

I did a Google search for this Scott and it showed up a link to the following site:

It is VERY violent, and I think it is about a bank robbery gone wrong. ... I know its nothing to do with Dutch students but it couldn't be this ... The only obscure Scandinavian movie with the word "Dog" in it that I ...

so, f**k all use then

Not sure about inspiring Reservoir Dogs, but the only Scandinavian films around that title would be the Dogme arthouse movement which stared in Denmark. I've only seem a couple of the Dogme films, but its worth a lot as a few of the films are named after their 'Dogme number' (i.e. the order of which they were made in accordance to the Dogme filmmaking rules).

Probably another dead end though.

Edit: Actually, thinking about this, I doubt it is what you're looking for as one of the Dogme rules emphasized a lack of superficial violence and weaponry....so it would have to be a fair loose influence for Reservoir Dogs...actually, also seeing as this entire movement began in 1995, it can't be the answer. Sorry!

Old thread, but have seen a lot of scandinavian movies so I'll try to help you.

Maksimov mentiones 'In China They Eat Dogs' - have you ruled this one out?

Don't fit if it's supposed to be an inspiration for 'Reservoir Dogs' though..

One of my favourite movies of all time is a danish movie called 'Pusher', directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, starring Kim Bodnia and Mads Mikkelsen. It's not about a bank robbery, but a drugdeal that go wrong. It's dark, violent and brilliant, though it's probably not the movie you're looking for..

Dog Soldiers?

That's a pretty good, violent horror.

lmao i love dog soldiers :P

it's like snakes on a plane, so bad you have to love it

def one of my favourite films

But see, unlike Snakes on a Plane, Dog Soldiers is actually a good film, Snakes on a Plane is absolutely dreadful
