October 13, 200915 yr unlike kalou, this is a good bit of business...good player, been missed this season and can only get betterhttp://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0...1825413,00.html superb news, and a great bit of business by the club in signing him so cheap initially. i will freely admit that up until last season i was never sure of him as he made some simple mistakes at times which seemed to stem from a poor lack of concentration. but last season he was possibly our best defender and was very consistent. thats our good old chelsea though isnt it, gives with one hand and takes away with the other. kalou re-signing was sh*t, then alex signs.
October 13, 200915 yr I heard a rumour this morning that he was about to so it is definitely good to hear it confirmed. He would walk straight into the back line of any of our challengers so it is great we have him for the future. This could well be Ricky's last season as a regular and Alex will step in to be Terry's main partner next season.

I wouldn't say we got him that cheap. Although no figures have ever been confirmed it is widely 'rumoured' that we paid the £5m that took him to PSV and we also picked up his wages for the three years he was at PSV (so say he was on £30k a week that amounts to about a further £5m).
October 13, 200915 yr excellent news alex is a good no nonsense defender, prone to the odd lack of concentration but when he plays regular he can be one of the best if not the best, and to tie him up for 4 years is brilliant, especially with there been a lot of rumours earlier in the year about him been unsettled and looking for a move
October 13, 200915 yr Good news. I'd also heard rumours that Alex was after a move, but like most here hoped there was nothing to them. In retrospect it seems a lot of this "unrest" was conjecture fuelled by his absence through injury.

October 13, 200915 yr Great news indeed! Alex is very solid defensively and let's not forget his free-kick abilities from a long range. Last season's goal against the dippers in CL semis is a prime example. Love the guy!
October 13, 200915 yr Great news, was one of our best players last season and hopefully he carries that form over to this season.
October 13, 200915 yr Good news. I like Alex. He had good last season. And his goal againsit Liverpool... :D Great!!!
October 13, 200915 yr Way to go Alex. Look forward to seeing you in the squad in about three weeks time.
October 14, 200915 yr Great news. But I wonder is this insurance for the potential ban and lack of faith in the appeal process? Or is this something on that part of the club where they have good information or knowledge that their appeal process will fade. There have been several signings since the ban announcement....
October 14, 200915 yr I believe it is more that most of these players were already in line for an extension prior to the ban, but have now been signed on just in case things don't go our way with the appeal. A good bit of foresight by the club.
October 14, 200915 yr Great News.... He's a rock, great move, should have been one of our earlier extensions.
October 14, 200915 yr Cant get enough of this: The video makes it look even better! The one against Boro wasn't any worse though.
