October 12, 201015 yr Had absolutely no chance to go to the cinema in the past few months, am way behind on the current films. Watched The Hangover over the weekend, and even though I enjoyed it, it's a watch it once and love it film. I can re-watch films like Kick-Ass, District 9, Lord Of The Rings because they're utterly brilliant, but with The Hangover, once you've seen it, you needn't watch it again. October 12, 201015 yr Film 3 was stupendous, wonderful, surreal, black comedy. A 1997 Peter Mullen film called Orphans, set in Glasgow, the film opens with three brothers and a handicapped sister in a wheelchair sitting round their mother’s coffin. The girl wants to kiss her mother goodbye so two of the brothers have to lift her up and suspend her over the coffin to give their mother a kiss. The two older brothers are played brilliantly by Gary Lewis and Douglas Henshall. The scene shifts to a pub where drunken Weegies are singing sentimental songs. Thomas (Gary Lewis) gets up and starts to sing a song dedicated to his mother, but breaks down half way through. A drunk called Duncan starts sniggering whereupon Michael (Douglas Henshall_ goes berserk and attacks him. In the course of the fight Michael gets a knife in his side. As the night goes on, wilder and more hilarious “adventures” befall them all. One involves the youngest brother and his cousin poking a shotgun through a bathroom window into the bum of a man who is having a w**k… the man whirls round in surprise and ejaculates all over the cousin’s face. Of the three films I saw this one was by far the best!!! But I fear foreigners (even fluent ones) will require subtitles to help them with the Weegie (Glaswegian) accents. You missed the finest moment in the film which is when the devoted brother is left on his own to carry the coffin as the rest haven't showed up. He refuses all offers of assistance as he staggers along with the coffin on his doubled over back and announces 'She's no heavy, she's ma muther' before collapsing face first in the mud.

I deliberately didn't mention that so as not to spoil it for people if they then took the DVD out to watch themselves. The cinema erupted into laughter at that - I thought the man behind me was going to have a heart attack! Edited October 12, 201015 yr by moi
October 15, 201015 yr Transporter 3. . Transporter? With Jason Statham? They've made three of those movies?
October 15, 201015 yr "When You're Strange" - watched yesterday. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! Edited October 15, 201015 yr by Mikstaw
October 15, 201015 yr "When You're Strange" - watched yesterday. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! The documentary about The Doors?
October 15, 201015 yr Yes ;) IT'S A GREAT MOVIE! I recommend it for everyone! ;) I thought it was ok, but I felt the style of the movie didn't quite match the subject matter. The style of a documentary about The Doors should not be so conservative as the one that was used in this film. I think that it would be more in spirit of the band to be a bit rebellious against the age old rigid conventions and shake things up a little. I liked that they didn't use any "talking heads reminiscing", but I think they could've been more daring. It's not a bad movie, but I felt it was a bit tame and conservative for a movie about a band like The Doors. Edited October 15, 201015 yr by Maksimov
October 15, 201015 yr It wasn't conservative for me... I think it was rebellious and I enjoyed it very much! I think the main point of this film is just to learn more about the music of The Doors.
October 15, 201015 yr I think the main point of this film is just to learn more about the music of The Doors. Fair enough. I just thought it could have been more like a music film and less like a history lesson. Depp's dry voice overs made it feel like an old educational programme, instead of a movie about a legendary rock band. If that had been done right after Morrison's death, it wouldn't have been so conservative(for its time), but in 2010 it felt so outdated and rigid. I really like The Doors and I think they deserve a better film. Edited October 15, 201015 yr by Maksimov
October 17, 201015 yr Tonight I saw a film called The Bulletproof Monk. It was total crap. For more information on how I came to be polluting my eyes thus, see the All-Purpose Rant Thread.
October 17, 201015 yr I have a cold at the moment so I thought I'd go with something that don't require much thinking. Therefore I saw "Piranha". It wasn't that bad actually. It started well with a cameo of Richard Dreyfuss as a fisherman attacked by vicious piranhas. A homage to Jaws. His character was even named Matt. I was wondering why he appeared in a movie like this, but apparently he got $50.000 for it and gave it to charity. I tip my hat to him. Anyway. The movie is about a sh*tload of prehistoric piranhas that are let lose from some large cave that an earthquake has opened a hole to. They're quite hungry, but lucky for them it's spring break so it's basicaly a smorgasbord for them. Loads of young attractive people to nibble on. From what I can tell there's not one bad looking guy or girl in the town. Strange place. All hell breaks lose and loads of people get eaten. Lots of blood and missing limbs. Yummy. Also, I do believe that this movie has more tits flapping around than most pornos. But don't worry girls, there's something for you as well. How about a chewed off penis. Oh, and more abs than you can imagine. The acting is not great, but I've seen worse. I might see this one again actually. But since it's originaly made in 3D I wouldn't mind seeing that. I only saw the 2D version but I can imagine that it might be pretty cool in 3D.
October 18, 201015 yr The Expendables Just love violence! Yeah, I enjoyed it too! For more over-the-top violence in good fun, try Clive Owen's "Shoot 'Em Up"
October 18, 201015 yr Eat, Pray, Love I liked the movie to be honest although most of my friends with whom I went to watch it were throwing pop corn at each other because they were utterly bored. Provides some strong moments and if you believe in spirituality and stuff like that, the whole part of Roberts' experiences in India is pretty consuming. Watch it if you can bear slow movies.
October 22, 201015 yr Watched "Four Lions" last night. Have heard alot of good things about it so I finally decided to see it. I must say I was very disappointed. It had some fun parts, but overall it was boring. Can't believe so many like it.
October 22, 201015 yr Just watched Predator 2010...Strange but then if you've watched Predator and Predator 2 you might expect that. Not my cup of tea but a decent enough Sci-Fi action thing if you like that sort of stuff. Watched Reds last night, Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman with Helen Mirran thrown in as ex CIA agents, again not bad really if you like Die Hard type of films.

Watched Reds last night, Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman with Helen Mirran thrown in as ex CIA agents, again not bad really if you like Die Hard type of films. Just saw Red as well. Kinda liked it. You really can't go wrong with the eternally sexy Helen Mirren firing guns.
October 23, 201015 yr Finally got around to getting to the cinema, hurrah!! Couldn't decide between The Social Network (which I really wanted to see) and Buried (which I really wanted to see), I opted for Buried in the end and I'm so glad I did. Story is quality, Ryan Reynolds wakes up in a pitch dark place, discovers a lighter in his pocket and sees he's in a coffin, buried undergroud. Finds a bag under his feet, in which is a phone, some glow sticks and a pretty useless torch planted there for reasons that are revealed over the course of the film by his captors. The entire 90 or so minutes are set in the box, and I have to say, it's brilliantly made and a thoroughly enjoyable film. It's tense all the way through, well acted by Reynolds, I loved it.
October 24, 201015 yr I've just had the dubious honour of seeing 'The Human Centipede'. Without giving it all away, it's about a mad scientist who for some reason (presumably because he's mad) wants to create a human centipede by surgically attaching three people mouth to arse. It's really a bog standard horror, just one with the weirdest, most gruesome concept I've seen. Not recommended for those without an iron constitution!
October 26, 201015 yr Magnolia No heroes, no sloppy stuff, all characters flawed, surreal at times - loved it
October 26, 201015 yr Finally saw Descent, liked it better than most of the horror movies I've seen lately.
October 27, 201015 yr Finally saw Descent, liked it better than most of the horror movies I've seen lately. I quite liked Descent, but, apparently, they didn't learn their lesson - there's a Descent 2
