Roman not happy with antic!

Chief executive Ron Gourlay has read the riot act to Chelsea's misbehaving stars in a tough-talking showdown with the squad at the club's training ground this week.

Gourlay, who was speaking on behalf of the club's owner Roman Abramovich, organised the meeting together with coach Carlo Ancelotti in response to weeks of lurid headlines involving club captain John Terry and his England team-mate Ashley Cole.

Gourlay reminded the players of their responsibility to protect the image of the club and warned of 'severe disciplinary consequences' should any player step out of line in the future.

Apparently they weren't kidding:

Ashley Cole will be hit with a massive £200,000 fine after breaching Chelsea's new hard-hitting crackdown on sleaze.

Roman Abramovich, Carlo Ancelotti and Chelsea's top brass were left reeling yesterday as a fresh wave of allegations about the England left-back's private life rocked Stamford Bridge.

The Blues hierarchy are said to incensed at the extent to which the club's name has yet again been tarnished, totally eclipsing the win that takes them four points clear at the top of the Premier League.

In yesterday's allegations a secretary claimed Cole had an affair with a secretary during Chelseaís pre-season preparations in America last summer.

Mirror Sport understands that the club had taken Cole's word that the allegations were untrue when they first became aware of them last summer.

But Chelsea were left furious on Saturday afternoon when they were contacted to be warned that proof of the allegations would come out just 24 hours later.

Club chiefs had no idea that the girl in question had sold her story, indeed the first they knew of her decision to do so was when her account appeared yesterday.

Chelsea were even more livid at the depth of the allegations - including the suggestion that Cole had sneaked the girl onto the team bus and into the team hotel - plastered across several newspapers yesterday.

Only last week Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay was ordered by Abramovich to read the riot act to the entire first-team squad at their training ground, reminding them of their responsibilities to the club in terms of their conduct and the clubës image in the public eye.

Club discipline has been beefed up to include a series of measures aimed at stamping out the kind of indiscretions that have dragged Chelseaís name through the mud all season.

Although the latest revelations concerning Cole involve incidents which took place before the new Stamford Bridge crackdown, the Blues are taking a zero-tolerance approach.

Cole, on £100,000-a-week, will be fined two-weeks wages. And ANY player about whom there are revelations that bring the club into disrepute - regardless of when they allegations have occurred - will also be punished.

£200.000 fine! That is quite alot.

I don't even think spanish clubs get fined that much when the fans have been racist. :P

if found guilty,no more than he deserves, especially,if he told the board a lie.its about time chelsea got their house in order.as soon as the press couldnt get abramovich for being a 'russian mafioso',they aimed their sights at a more realistic target.the players are only human, however, they should know by now that theyre part of a witch-hunt.you cant tell me that players from other clubs arent doing similar things.

Not great news, but let's remember that just because the press say it, that doesn't make it true.

I am inclined to ignore anything the Daily Mail says out of principle, so don't really care what they claim happened.

IF Ashley has been a silly boy again though, then I really don't know what we can do. We either ignore it, as he's the best left back in the world, and hasn't let his private life get in the way of his day job, or we bin him and suddenly become a club that panders to red top fever. If we start waving the moral wand now, then we may find that few of our players escape censure (as would probably be the case at any football club)

I am REALLY bored of our players being in the media spotlight for non-footballing matters, but there's not much we can do about it.

Heavy fine, good talking to, but support will be needed - we shouldnt kick a man when he is down, even if he has brought it on himself.

He's gonna lose the wife.

All self inflicted.

Agree entirely, I'd imagine the breakup of his marriage will take it's toll no matter how many alleged affairs there are out there. Might be a good thing that he isn't playing while all this is happening. And lets be honest two weeks wages is a drop in the ocean compared to how much his divorce could cost. Still good to see the club putting down a marker.

We stuck by John, we have to stick by Ash.

We'll be cutting our nose to spite our face if we don't - we'd lose the best left back in the world.

Not sure why this has to be made public? Is it to show we have a tough stance on behavior like this? Is it worth the embarrassment of our players?

Really is nobody's business but their own, but from the allegations JT and Ashley have really pushed the bounds of stupidity by engaging in personal habits that could, possibly, affect things on the field/with their employers, but I dont see the point of telling the daily fail that Ron Gourlay is laying down the law from on high, and that no more monkey buisness will be tolerated.

We should be dealing with this in house

I agree with this. You do your dirty laundry at home and not in public.

Apparently Ashley is being held to task for the newest rumour, with suggestions of a inhouse 200k fine or even possibley being put on a transfer list. However rumours suggest he is so fed up with his England persecution and now this in house row, that he may very well seek to leave the EPL altogether.

Apparently he is pissed at how Terry was treated differently (supported) as compared to him now.

Just rumours, but still unsettleing!

If I'm honest, I find this ridiculous! Sure, it's fair to fine Ash whatever amount for bringing 'strangers' to team hotels - and this should be solved internally, certainly not involving the media. What is it of anyone's business anyway?

Now suddendly the club has a change of heart and decided to judge the players on their actions off the pitch. Alright then, why didn't they do that regarding the Terrygate?? No, the club supported John Terry, and should support Ashley Cole. Because, as far as I can see, Ash alledgedly bringing people to team hotels seems to be one thing, and damaging the image of the club on the media, another (Ok, both may fuse, but beside point). There was a witch hunt out there to get JT, and now they want Ash. What's the difference?

I believe that, if there is something really damaging the image of the club, then it's the likes of News of the World and their horendous sensacionalism. Chelsea should sue such papers, they must have ground to to that; and publish it.

Sorry if I talk nonsense. It's late, and I feel pissed off about it all.

exactly, more bollocks from our beloved media designed to disrupt and upset our club and players. f**k the lot of them. im guessing somewhere in that article the immortal words "and insider said2 or "the guardian understands" or even the good old "someone close to Ashely said". f**king idiots.

Tabloid nonsense.

Although I can understand the appeal for Ashley to move elsewhere now, it makes sense.

Lost the wife, she'll probably stay in the US, he'll go to Spain, love the high life and meet someone else..

Less pressure from our c**tish press.

Zola, socially it would make more sense for him to want to move abroad, as I doubt there would be such a furore over there in a similar situation, but I think he is made of sterner stuff than running away. That was the old Ashley Cole

I'd take that with a pinch of salt.

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/22022010/58/...0-000-fine.html

So he's going to be fined £200,000 in one paper...by £400,000 in another? Doesn't quite add up.

Isnt that about 2 weeks wages for him? But obviously they want the more sensationalistic amount. I too am taking all of this with a pinch of salt.

The club should beat all these sources to the punch and make a statement: "Ashley Cole has been fined 2 weeks wages, which he has agreed to willingly donate to the Save the Children foundation or Hatian/Maderia relief efforts. We now consider the matter closed." End this wild speculation, becasue the longer it goes on, the more it is going to take away from the team

You hit the nail on the head :D

"there are indications..."

"is said to have"

sad to see a paper like the guardian bow to this sh*t. Its really no better than the red tops, just classed up with a nicer format and disguised behind the wording of an Oxbridge education.

I would have to say that I rate the Guardian quite highly as an online football read.

Their stories usually have a decent enough foundation.

Although this Cole story doesnt look like much, we will see..
