PFA Award nominations are out

Featured Replies

I thought there was a rule that no matter how he played (or even if he played) gerrard HAD to be one of the nominations?

For once the shortlist is actually fine.

I'm quite sure Rooney will win his category and I'm not going to argue with that one. He's been ManUs best player this season and if he can continue like that in the World Cup England might go far.

I guess Milner will win in the other category, but I think Hart would be a worthy winner as well. He's been great this season and gave us a really hard time.

Im absolutely gobsmacked at that list, cant believe they have left out their beloved stevie me. I thought it was written into his contract that he was up for these awards.

Surely if Drogba win golden Boot, Scores in the FA Cup final and Chelsea win the title then his influence has been greater than Rooneys?

I don't know when the voting takes place but it should be when the season is finished as there is more to come from all the players involved.

I also think Drogba should take any penalties we get between now and the end of the season just to make sure he does win the Boot.

Whod do you think should win the PFA Player of the Year?

Who do you think will win?

Me - I think Drogba and Shrek were best, I think Rooney will end up getting it.

Rooney is going to win it by a country mile. It has been written in stone by the media since Christmas that he has to be player of the year. Personally I don't grudge him winning it but the idea that he has been head and shoulders better than anyone else is farcical. There is a midge's ball hair between Rooney and Drogs, not just from the perspective of stats (i.e goals scored and assists) but also all round performance.

If Drogs was born in the midlands and representing England this summer then the media would not have turned this into the one horse race they have.

Rooney will get it....and even though Drogba has been just as exceptional, Rooney will some what still deserve it more

Why?

Look how we played without Drogba....we did fantastic! Doesnt take anythign away from him, but Drogba doesnt necessarily always elevate our game...infact we have had discussions that he can have the opposite effect and our team mentally becomes over reliant on him when he is on the field, and everyone else palys worse.

on the other hand Man U has been fighting us for the league every step.....but the minute Rooney is off the pitch you can see the difference, they are not a squad of champions without him.

So aside from media bias, Rooney gets it because he is more important to his team, than Drogba is to us ...but again that does NOT mean that Rooney is better than Drogba, more a reflection of the squads but something I think you still have tot ake into account.

on a side note, in my mind had ACole been fit all season and kept his form all season I think he would have a large claim to this.

This. Without Didier, we're still competing for the title. Without Rooney, United are battling Liverscum for an Europa Laegue place.

Fair play to him, he's been the difference maker for them, even when not getting the goals. He can have the individual award, and we'll get the team ones.

That means Drogba is being penalised for playing amongst a better collection of players.

We manage without Drogba in a way Utd don't manage without Rooney because our al round team is better - that doesn't diminish from Drogba's performances and therefore shouldn't be taken into account when determining who the better player has been.

Drogba has had a good season, but I think only the most blue tinted spec wearers amongst us would argue that he has been better than Rooney.

Rooney is the clear winner this season.

I think it should be Didier Drogba that wins the award this season but it is likely that Wayne Rooney will win it. In my opinion the award should be awarded at the end of the season, not now. Imagaine if Chelsea go on to win the double and Drogba is the main individual. I personally think that would rank higher than what Rooney would have achieved for Manchester United this season if it happens.

I'm not being biased but Drogba has actually had a better season than Rooney.

Similar goal scoring record in less games and more assists, you know like the one on Tuesday that turned out to be the vital goal.

In fact Rooney this season has been more of a finisher whilst Drogba's all round play has been better. In Europe we played the Italian Champions while Rooney was getting his goals tally up against a horrible Milan team. Drogba does not take penalties either.

Drogba won't win the award but it's not because Rooney has been better. In 06/07 Drogba was arguably better than Ronaldo but never in a million years stood a chance and it looks like it's happening again.

Don't really want to argue the case for a Man Utd player over a Chelsea one. To be honest I'd be happy if a Chelsea player wins the award. I just think, trying to be unbiased, Rooney has had a better season. For me it's not about who has scored more or who has more assists, it's watching the players and who you feel has performed better overall and as good as Drogba has been at times, there are plenty of games where he has not been good - the Inter Milan games being two of them - they are Italian Champions? So what?

As I say, I'd be more than happy if he got it but I don't think the team that wins the trophies should have any bearing on an individual player award.
