The Moos Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Anyone else heard about this rumour? Chelsea To Bid £7m For Andy Carroll Of Newcastle United - ReportChelsea are considering making a surprise move for Newcastle United starlet Andy Carroll, believing a £7 million sum to be enough to capture the promising striker. According to BBC Sport, the Blues were impressed with the 21-year-old's performances last season for the Toon, where his goal haul helped fire them back into the Premier League and lift the Championship crown. Carroll bagged 19 goals in 35 games for Chris Hughton's side, and Chelsea are apparently willing to pay a sizeable fee for the England Under-21 international. With Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba both over 30 years of age, manager Carlo Ancelotti is keen to add young firepower to his squad in a bid to unearth long-term replacements for the duo. The Italian signed Manchester City striker Daniel Sturridge last summer and is rumoured to be looking at other promising 'homegrown' stars this time around. Any move for Carroll could be stopped by Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, who is being extra careful not to upset supporters by selling their most highly-rated player. Ashley already has a strained relationship with the Magpies supporters, after they blamed him for their team's relegation from the Premier League 12-months previous. http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2010...e-united-report Don't know anything about him really. Is he any good?
PloKoon13 Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Andy Carroll is actually pretty good, but I wouldn't pay £7m for him. I can see him developing into a player at about Kevin Davies' level, i.e. a mid-to-lower Premiership stalwart who never quite makes it on the big stage or internationally.
SydneyChelsea Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Has a terribly unprofessional attitude- thinks he is much better than he really is. Anyone that picks a fight with their captain and senior on a training pitch is not worthy of a Chelsea shirt.
icecoolguy22 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Make no sense to sign a player like that. He's not good enough to cement a spot in the first 11, if we are planning for the future, we already got plenty coming through the ranks
Gem Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Bad hair, no way. Seconded, least we forget the main reason we should/shouldn't sign a player.
midlandblue Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 need to wait until his court case is over then decide he's nowhere near good enough.
Ruh Buh Juh Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Let's think this through. £6million for an established, good quality premier league player in Benayoun. And £7million for a youngster with a bit of a reputation? Hmm.
bcarroll Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Franco di santo could become a far better player if we stick with him.
Randy36 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I would be opposed to signing Carroll. The guy is a walking time bomb ready to explode at any time. He has been arrested on a number of occasions. He is currently on bail awaiting a Crown Court trial. We don't need him.
evissy Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 We have Di Santo and Sturridge. I don't see the point of signing a player who is fitted where he is at and doesn't bring anything new to us.
Captain Haribo Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Can only laugh at this. He's not very good, and he's a horrible little scumbag who fights with his own teammates. Would be a poor signing for anybody, let alone ourselves.
scottish born chelsea blue Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 what the hell would we do with him is he the new boot boy he isnt half as good as he thinks he is
rahul Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Doesnt make any sense to me. He isnt as good as Sturridge, Borini or even Di Santo. Nothing more than a stupid senseless rumor.
Epic Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Doesnt make any sense to me. He isnt as good as Sturridge, Borini or even Di Santo. Nothing more than a stupid senseless rumor. He is much better than both Borini and Di Santo. You obviously haven't seen much of him.
rahul Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 He is much better than both Borini and Di Santo. You obviously haven't seen much of him. I had seen a bit of him in the season before last and he didnt stand out as an extraordinary sort of player. Maybe he has stepped up in the Championship but you can trust Championship level strikers only so much. Look at what happened to Ebanks Blake. My only problem with going for someone like him is that it makes no sense spending money on such players when we already have similarly or maybe more talented young strikers in our squad.
dkw Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) He is much better than both Borini and Di Santo. You obviously haven't seen much of him. Not sure where you get that from, the times i saw him last season in the championship he did ok but no more than that. He certainly didnt look a striker who could play at the level Chelsea are at. Borini on the other hand does look a superb prospect, looks a natural goal scorer to me. Edited June 9, 2010 by dkw
Maverick Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 He is much better than both Borini and Di Santo. You obviously haven't seen much of him. Di Santo is a year or two younger and already has a taste of the premiership, I'd rather give him a run than buy someone like Carroll.
Captain Haribo Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 He is much better than both Borini and Di Santo. You obviously haven't seen much of him. The couple Newcastle fans I know see this as a "laughing all the way to the bank" type transfer. He's a decent player but a horrible person and not even close to Chelsea's standard, or worth £7 million.
Zola's Love Child Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 He is an absolute chav. The only reason we could possibly sign him is to take the front page of the NOTW away from JT/JT's family an divert attention. From watching the lad whilst in Newcastle a year ago, he's okay...got a long way to develop as a footballer though (and as a human as well probably).
Hutch Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I think a resurgence of this rumour was inevitable, if not necessarily completely credible. From the Express: NEWCASTLE'S ANDY CARROLL SET TO BE NEW DIDIER DROGBACHELSEA are lining up Newcastle striker Andy Carroll as the £15million replacement for Didier Drogba. Manager Carlo Ancelotti could even make his move in the January transfer market – aware that some of Chelsea’s Premier League title rivals are watching the 21-year-old, who may win a place in England’s squad for the forthcoming friendly against France. Carroll has impressed Ancelotti with his physical attributes and improved footballing skills. Once raw and rangy, he has been transformedby Newcastle into a dangerous striker. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger – whose team have to deal with Carroll in today’s clash with Newcastle – believes he will play for England. Ancelotti knows that 32-year- old Drogba can’t continue to terrorise defences for too many seasons more, so he will try to prise Carroll away from a reluctant Newcastle. LINK
Ben Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 In a couple of years perhaps, & he would have to chop his barnet.
Bobbywoodhogan Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 I wouldn't want Carrol, he's decent but I can't ever see him making it at a top 4 team. I'd rather we signed Lukaku
