I'd like to get Chelsea fans opinion of Irishman Conor Clifford. I think he is a very good player. My cousin played with him, he said its amazing. My cousin has played against him, he said its not good prefer to play with him.

In my opinion if he keeps developing the way he has so far he's the natural successor to Frank Lampard. He's more combative than Frank but passes well and get's forward to score plenty of goals. A very exciting prospect and I don't think it's a bad thing for him if he doesn't get the praise and therefore expectations dumped on him that the likes of Kakuta are getting.

Agreed with Barn and Liamski,

think he's very effective as a player and will fly under the radar unlike someone in the mold of Kakuta. But if he continues to score goals like that, he may not be as stealthy in his ascent as we'd imagine

Seems to have slipped under my radar that CC has joined Plymouth on loan.

Hope he does well gains plenty from his time there.

He made his Plymouth debut at the weekend and they had a great result against Huddersfield. If you look at the Plymouth message board on BBC 606 Conor has a thread devoted to him and is already held in very high regard by the Plymouth fans.

I read about this last week but didn't comment on it because the initial loan deal was only for a month. However, he's already looking for to have the loan extended:

After moving out on loan last week to Plymouth Argyle, it didn't take Conor Clifford long to make an impact with the Pilgrims.

The 19-year-old, who scored the stunning winner in our FA Youth Cup final win earlier in the year, went straight into Peter Reid's starting eleven for the visit of Huddersfield on Saturday and was lauded as instrumental in midfield as his new side triumphed 2-1.

He was praised for his tencacity and spirit in the middle of the park and now, it seems, he's targeting a longer stay with Argyle than just the initial one-month deal.

'Realistically, I'm not going to play for Chelsea so I need to push on my career by getting some games in proper men's football,' he said.

A few people seem to have been riled by these comments, suggesting the teenager has already given up on his Chelsea dream, but we think that aspersion would be misplaced. Don't take the lad's quotes the wrong way, he's not saying he won't play for Chelsea ever, just that it's not very realistic at the minute which, even though manager Carlo Ancelotti has given the youngsters great opportunities at the start of this new 2010-11 campaign, is very true.

Clifford went on,

'After winning the Youth Cup (at Chelsea) last season, my goal was to get out on loan as quickly as I could. But I wasn't really expecting it to be this quick.'

'I thought it would have been after Christmas, so this is a bonus for me. I'm grateful to Peter Reid for giving me the chance. I would love to stay here, but it's up to Plymouth and my performances on the pitch. We will see what happens.'

We think an extended stay with the League One side would be of great benefit to the lad's career but it's probably best to see how he gets on initially first. One man-of-the-match performance is a great start but lower league football can be a cruel mistress at the best of times. However, we look forward to keeping tabs on Conor's progress down at Home Park.

Conor Clifford is a great prospect and we should try and hang onto him. His range of passing is extraordinary for someone his age.

It's just that he's got some tough competition when it comes to midfielders at Chelsea. Not only the first team regulars, but also the youngsters as well.

To me, those quotes scream 'I'm out of here' however much the writer has tried to put a positive spin on them. With so much competition for places in our midfield, I don't blame him. Being realistic, Josh is obviously more highly rated, hence his rapid promotion, and the chances of two youth players becoming regular squad players in our midfield are very very small, however good they are, so Connor is probably right to look elsewhere.

Clifford to be our Pirlo? Yes.

Can't see it happening to be honest.

Josh has obviously got ahead of CC in the pecking order and there aren't many midfield places up for grabs. All he can do is keep playing his best and hope is best is good enough to gt noticed.

His comments can certainly be interpreted in two ways: One, I want to play for Chelsea in the future, but realize it's best for me to develop elsewhere until then. Two, I've no chance of making that squad so I'm going wherever I can play "mans'" and not reserve footy!

Great player, but with Josh ahead of him, Ramires, Mikel, and Lampard for a while. not to mention Matic already out on load too. I wouldn't be putting much on him making it here

I think he certainly meant that there's no way he was going to play for Chelsea right now, which he is right in saying.

I think he has a chance of making it at the club and a good period out on loan will do him the world of good.

Dare I say it but imo all his attributes, tackling and even running style remind me more of Gerrard than Frank.

Saw him live in the youth cup final and was quite impressed. I was hoping he might get his chance this season with McEachran, Bruma and Van Aarnholt, but he's gone out on loan instead, so hopefully he'll get a chance next season and prove himself, because he could be the replacement for Lampard we're going to be needing soon.

Going to Notts County on loan, initially for a month but with the expectation that the deal will be extended to the end of the season:

Have been very impressed by what i've seen of Conor Clifford. Outstanding goal to win the youth cup last year.

I hope we see him in the first team squad next year. He is very similar in style to Frank. Frankie isn't getting any younger now ....natural successor? Would love to see our youth team products given a chance.

man, why such a rush of promising youth at once....i mean, a nice problem to have, but imagine how much better it would of been, in terms of giving them chances, if they'd of been spaced out by a few more years!

Next year's youth will be better, and so will the year after's.
