Drogba has groin operation

Featured Replies

I think we knew it was coming. On the offical site now, back in training in 3 weeks.

Right time to do it really. Hopefully he will only miss a couple of games. It's no disaster.

I wonder if this means that Anelka will be played as the lone striker or will he continue playing on the right and Sturridge or Kalou will play as the lone striker? Or maybe we'll go back to 4-4-2...(?) I'm pretty sure Di Santo will not be a starter during Drogba's absence.

if he was in need of an operation surely it would have been better for him to have had it whilst he was on his summer hols

in an ideal world that is true, but to deny Didier the chance to play in a world cup would have been harsh. The start of the season shouldnt stretch us too much so better to get the niggles out of the way now.

I think he meant that the operation should have been done straight after Ivory Coast was knocked out of the World Cup, instead of waiting after he came back from his holidays.

Hopefully were getting them out of the way early in the season though. Surely we cant have as bad a season with injuries as the last one.

We definately could

Imagine Drogba or Lampard going down with season ending injuries early in the piece. We'd struggle big time.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

Synonyms: keyhole surgery, laparoscopic surgery

This involves procedures performed by entering the skin via small incisions or by a body cavity, with two aims:

Produce the least possible damage to structures

At the same time, achieve the same result as if performed by open or more invasive surgery

Specialist equipment is required, including fibreoptics, camera and equipment with handles.

So if it was a groin injury what cavity did they use?

Can't say that any groin surgery would be minimally invasive though.

this is a question I would expect moi to ask.

Had it been Gerrard, I would have advised entering the groin through the nasal passages.

Lucky we have a relatively straight-forward start to the season. Let's just hope we've saved up some injury credit for December when our hardest part of the run is.

For me, with the injuries to Drogs, Cech and Alex and assuming the squad remains the same, our XI v West Brom is:

Hilario, Ivanovic, Carvalho, Terry, Cole, Mikel, Essien, Lampard, Malouda, Kalou and Anelka.

Still a pretty good XI, so I'm not too worried.

Don't really know if we have Carvalho start of the season..

He surely will be fit for Wigan(a) or Stoke(h) wont be fit for West Brom

Team vs. Man U(community Shield)

GK: Hilario

LB: A.Cole

CB: Terry

CB: Alex or Carvalho

RB: Bosingwa(if he is fit)

CM: Lampard

CM: Essien

CM: Mikel

RW: Kalou

ST: Anelka

LW: Kakuta(take off second half)

good news about Drogba and Petr Cech, Sturridge's injury doesn't sound too serious, neither does Frank's illness, but still no date for Bosingwa's expected return. from Sky:

Drogba & Cech set to be fit for start of the season

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti expects Didier Drogba and Petr Cech to be fit for the start of the new season.

Drogba was a surprise inclusion in the Chelsea squad for their pre-season trip to Germany just one week after undergoing groin surgery.

The Ivory Coast ace was expected to be sidelined for up to three weeks following the surgery, but although he will not figure in Sunday's clash with Eintracht Frankfurt he could be involved in the midweek game with Hamburg.

Cech, who has been struggling with a calf problem, has not made the trip to Germany, but Ancelotti expects the custodian to be available for next weekend's Community Shield clash with Manchester United.

"He [Drogba] is in good condition, he has recovered well from surgery so he will be able to play the next game [against Hamburg]," Ancelotti told Sky Sports News.

"Yeah it is very good he is doing very well.

"All our squad is improving our condition and I think we will be ready for the start of the season.

"All the players in Germany will play tomorrow maybe only 45 minutes, but against Hamburg I want to put out the line-up that will play against Manchester United.

"Petr Cech is good, I think he will be fit for the game against Manchester United.

"I think that all the players will be fit against Manchester United and only [Jose] Bosingwa needs more time to be fit."

Frank Lampard has not travelled with the squad to Germany because of illness but he will link up later next week, while Daniel Sturridge is missing with a minor ankle problem.

Love it, things looking good after all, lets bring home another community shield at the start of the season and hope things will be looking good at the end of the season I guess!
