Who has got made the better deal?

.........us or Victimpool?

I think we will be getting a player who, on his day, can undoubtedly be world class. Intelligent movement, great touch, superb finishing ability. But also a player who, at times, can be lightweight, inconsistent and occaisionally even appear disinterested. Personally, I suspect Torres is prone to more mood swings than Kerry Katona and Britney Spears put together. In summary, you're never really 100% sure what Torres is gonna turn up.

And the Doo Deys new number 9? Well, again only my humble opinion, but I think the mousers will be getting a player who, at only 22 years of age, has truly staggering potential. The strength of an Ox, awesome aerial ability, work rate and a touch so good it's hard to believe he's English. In terms of natural assets and ability he has everything. I have only seen one player in the world over the last 5-6 years who I believe can match Drogba at his magnificent best and be a one man strike force. And that player is Andy Carroll. IMO, the only questionmarks against him are he has to prove he can perform at the top level over a prolonged period of time and he needs to show he has the brains to make the most of his god given talent and stop the off field antics which have sometimes over-shadowed his footballing abilities. In short, to fulfil his potential, he has to grow up and stop being Craig Bellamy on speed.

So you pays your £35-48 million and you takes your choice. I'm reasonably happy. I believe we may have done a good bit of business. But I also fear that we have given Victimpool the means to have signed a potential absolute world-beater.

It's too soon to tell. Torres could be a complete failure here while Carroll turns into a world class striker at Liverpool. Or it could be the other way around.

I think we got the biggest name, not necessarily the best player.

Us, we are signing one of the best strikers in the world, they are few & far between. Carroll, although a decent prospect, has had 6 months in the prem & clearly has issues.

Nice to see you posting Just, hope its not just a passing visit.

Have to say, I didnt want torres because of his injury problems, I feel another sheva.

That said I dont think you can accuse him of being light weight or going missing. He has out mucled terry more than once, made vidic's life a living hell and im sure many others tough deffenders.

Probably the best natrual finisher in the country maybe the world.

BUT as i said, massive gamble with his injurys and wish we had kept sturridge, dont see how going on loan to bolton will help him

Tough one to call. 50m for a world class finisher who may be a bit injury prone or 35m for potential.

For the extra 15m I'll go for the proven artical.

BTW nice to see you on here again Just. Your posts are sorely missed.

As for Sturridge I think it's a good move to prove one way of other that he is up to Chelsea class.

I think it is a great move for him. He will get game time, which he is not getting at ours on a regular basis. Now we are at the business end of the season his chances of game time is reduced.

If they sell Elmander to Newcastle he should go straight in.

At the moment we have, we got a proven player who will score goals and lots of them we hope, and this my give Drogba a kick up the back side and some competition. As for Andy who knows only time will tell?

I sincerely hope we are proved wrong Moos, but that is exactly the thought that I have too.

Ben, I know where you are coming from mate but don't forget the same was said about Shevchenko when he was signed. If it could be guaranteed that we were getting the Torres of three years ago and not the Torres of the past 18 months I would be alot happier.

Dont see how he will get playing time, Elmander is going no where and davis is captian.

This really bugs me, why send our kids out on loan to sit on some one elses bench when they could sit on ours.

Time will tell, the other worry is that he is played out of position.

On the carol thing now, daglish is trying to recrate the blackburn shearer thing. I personly think he has hit a miss hear

If Carroll reaches his utmost potential, he'll make the kind of impact Torres does now. But he's also an utter piece of trash and I think that's a much bigger obstacle to success than being a bit injury prone. IMO, Carroll's more likely to be getting raped in prison within 5 years than being considered world class.

I was expecting Elmander to go, but apparantly not. He should have gone to Newcastle on loan, although some right wronguns in that team.

Greetings Just !!

can't see Drogba or Anelka being too happy with the arrival of Torres could cause us more grief off the pitch

When talking of strikers with opposition fans I always say on form Drogba is the best there is, the next best thing in my opinion is an on form Torres.

I'm happy we have still got Drogba and hopefully will have for another season at least and have been able to bring in a 26 year old Torres, I think its down to the Manager to get the best out of him and judging by the last month or so his form is getting better, I'm happy with the signing.

Carrol does look a great prospect and more in a Drogba mould, I like him but I'd have Torres ahead of him and for the odd 15 million extra.

Good to see you back Just, you've been missed.

You got that one right TBB !!!

Had to laugh at the radio today, it all went a bit OTT At one point 5-live were asking people to phone in with transfer deadline day rumours about who had been seen where. It was all the usual football related nonsense and then one bloke texted in to say he had just spotted George Osborne in his local Pound Stretcher store !!

Going to be a long wait for Torres' debut.

Won't have signed in time for tomorrow and apparently there's a gentlemans agreement that he won't play against Liverpool on Sunday.

Next game is away to Fulham on the 14th of Feb.
