Am trying to remember who else took penalties back in the day. John Robertson of Forest? John Blackley of Hibs was a very decent centre back back in the 1970s. Played v England in 1974 and in the World Cup. Also Kenny Burns of Birmingham and Forest . Originally a striker. Brian Clough bought him in autumn of 1977 and by the end of the season Burns was Player of the Year and played for Scotland in 1978 World Cup, as a Centre Back ! Burns played for Scotland as both striker and centre back within a year !

September 22, 20187 yr Terrific player, but Gianfranco “ Red Rum” Zola was no oil painting. If you combined his teeth, with John Dempsey’s hair and Graham Rix’s ugly mug and feeble body you’d have something out of the chamber of horrors.

Utd. He looks like Plug from the Bash Street Kids. Any one born south of the Highland line is a Sassenach by the true definition of the word so that includes Lowlanders lol

Don Mason took a vital penalty at Anfield in October 77 in the deciding World Cup Qualifying match v Wales. It was 0-0 at the time. He missed a vital penalty v Peru in the opening Group stage match in Argentina. It was 1-1 at the time. This game v Peru tuned out to be his last for Scotland. Mason was a very good midfield player with QPR in the mid 70s.

As managers go, I'll boil it down to Tommy Docherty, Ian Porterfield (always reminded me of Quasimodo) and Avram Grant. Player wise. Goal keepers: Ed De Goey and Postman Pat himself, T. Courtois. Defenders: Eddie McCreadie, Mickey Droy, David Lee (of course), Frank Sinclair, Andy Myers, David Webb and Joey Jones (goes without saying). Midfielders: Late '50's pick Eric Parsons (his head was bigger than his body), Mickey Hazard (ditto), Zola ( double ditto), Steve Kember, Gus Poyet,, Nemanja Matic (stick his head on a pig's body and you wouldn't know the difference) and Cesc Fabregas, Strikers: The creme de la creme of unpleasantness Diego Costa and Wee David Speedie.

The game would be a 3pm Saturday kick off. Or a Wednesday 7.45 pm kick off. Both teams wearing retro Chelsea strips with the numbering 1-11. Okay lets say the classic Le Coq Sportif strips from that season. 'Ugly Bugs' wearing the home strip and 'Pretty Boys' wearing the yellow away strip. Black boots are also compulsory.
