A friend of mine used to live in the same street as Jim Holton when he played for Man. Utd. Holton broke his leg in 1974 and whilst he was at home with his leg in plaster and recuperating my friend and his mates would play Knock Down Ginger on Holton's door. @moi In response to your question about ugly sassenachs, here's one: Luke Chadwick of Man. Utd. He looks like Plug from the Bash Street Kids.

One of the most skillful players I've ever seen. On his day he was unstoppable. One of my Aunts used to work in John Menzies Newsagent in Hamilton where Davie lived (or to use Scottish parlance, stayed) and he would often pop into the shop for a chat. There is a memorial to Davie in the town. As for ugly footballers here's another name: Steve Ogrizovic who was the Coventry City goalie. When he played at the Bridge the chant for him from the Shed would be: "There's only one Freddy Krueger."

A few other centre backs: Martin Buchan and the two Rangers players, Colin Jackson and Tom Forsyth. Am trying to remember who else took penalties back in the day. John Robertson of Forest?

Can't believe that game is nearly fifty years ago. As you say, they played together for Scotland including the 3-2 win over England at Wembley in 1967. One James Curran Baxter ran riot. Here's the team from that game. Some team. One Chelsea player and one former. 1. Simpson (Celtic)2. Gemmell (Celtic)3. McCreadie (Chelsea)4. Greig (Rangers)5. McKinnon (Rangers)6. Baxter (Sunderland)7. Wallace (Celtic)8. Bremner (Leeds)9. McCalliog (Sheffield Wed)10. Law (Manchester Utd)11. Lennox (Celtic)
