I was at that game with my mate from school. We had Ian Ure in the team and David Sadler and Paul Edwards in defence. No wonder we lost. Funnily enough, we went to Anfield the week after and won 4-1.

Ian St John spun a good yarn about this match. At the training ground on a table Shankly assembled a subuteo team in Man Utd colours. He went through the starting 11 individually......

' Nobby Stiles, I've got bigger knomes in ma front garden..... Paddy Crerand....I've seen milk turn faster....Alex Stepney.... Dracula likes crosses more than him....

After rubbishing each player he knocked over their subuteo figure, leaving only three standing, Best, Law and Charlton.

Yes, it was the fourth. Got a lovely pass from Morgan hammered it past Lawrence.

Ignore the first couple of minutes of this video as it's about West Ham, Spurs, Arsenal, Palace and Wembley. My French is rusty so I've only understood bits of the commentary. Interesting to see the training sessions. I've tried to work out where some of them took place. Possibly the White City Stadium? Anyone know?

It looks very much like an ‘all weather running track’ we are training on. There weren’t that many in Britain.never mind London in 1971!

The White City was a completely enclosed Stadium and the footage shows a London bus on a road behind one of the goals.

The Crystal Palace National Sports Stadium perhaps ?

First football team I played for was my school team in 76 and the training sessions were more or less the same apart from the not bonding exercise but bondage exercise they had 😆. The East Lower must have been a kids section the crowd sound very young even though it's exactly what QPR sounded like for years !
