Anyone had any incidence of “seat share, or seat stealing in the 80s?

Gate 13 early 80’s multiple cases of having to shuffle up and have three quarters of a seat cause people had bunked in. Palace away on that night mid 90’s when it was pissing down with rain and what should have been a goal but got got stopped by a puddle on the goal line…returned from the lavatory to find someone sitting on my seat. Told him to f**k off to which his mates said “ Watch out. He’s a nutter”  Got my seat back, got arrested, charged with assault; Case dismissed thank f**k

I was at the Palace game, the ball seemed to wobble or spin around in the puddle. Was on the seats that night thank God. We got lagging in a pub in Thornton Heath before the game. I kept calling one of our players Wisey who I don't think was even playing. !!

Cardiff 84 when we arrived off the special there were a load of Cardiff fans in our allocation. Seemed to be a mix up but “Batesy” was around and asked for calm as we politely helped eject  them. So no sharing!

Loads of Chelsea from Croydon, Thornton Heath, Dulwich, Norbury. Geographical should have been Palace, and probably was majority so, however we had decent numbers from that way. Dixie used to run a coach to sways from Norbury

I think after 84/85 season back in Div 1 they made gate 13 unreserved due to so many just sitting where they liked

First time I was aware aware of Gate 13 was against Wolves, September 82. Think we were the first team to have ‘ chaps” sitting in seats.

That season it kind of caught wildfire, rather than taking opposition ends, sitting in their seats. Quite pioneering Leeds being the obvious example.

Remember before one man went to Mow, there was a similar nursery rhyme courtesy of Mr Greenaway Ten green bottles sung in gate!!! 82/83.

Massive turn out at Leeds in 83/84 seats along the side behind the paddock. Numbers of 7-8k. Didn’t do train but was in a 50 coach police escort from the motorway. For a 15 year old it looked the bo^*ocks!!!

When Chelsea signed up Boston United teenagers Gordon Bolland and Michael Robinson just before Christmas in 1959, Chelsea agreed to send a strong team over to Boston to play in a floodlit friendly match to supplement the small fee involved in the transfer.

So on Monday 14th March 1960 chairman Joe Mears and manager Ted Drake brought a Chelsea side up to Boston containing nine players with first team experience. Chelsea won  4-1 in front of a crowd of 3257.
