If I remember correctly, think there was one single gate down at the front, opening onto the side of the pitch and it was being charged by Chelsea every few minutes after Walker scored for Sunderland. The mother of all nights!

Then the following season 78/79 the new crash barriers were put in, but the corners in the shed and north stand were deemed too expensive to maintain and were fenced off with corrugated iron! I think it might've been 13,500 and the away 11,700. This picture shows more paid to get in than was ever stated in the official attendance. Remember when we played Fulham towards the end of our promotion season, the talk in papers pre match were of capacity 40k crowd, ground was packed then score board flashed thirty four thousand! Shed started singing there's more than that here, three up inside 20 mins, and Joey launched paul Parker into the stand!!

As was mentioned on the previous page official attendance and actual attendance that night against Sunderland there were loads more. Me and my mates jumped the turnstiles in the West Stand and we weren't alone. The operators had given up and were thumbing through the programme smoking fags. Thought we were going to win after the early goal but then as you say the mother of all nights on and off the pitch.

June 25, 20179 yr Just checked. It was Chelsea Connection that was the kit manufacturers for only one season 1986/87. It was still Le Coq Sportif in 1985/86 and it was Umbro in 1987/88 and for a few seasons afterwards.
