Yes he was a fine player. I remember he came on at half time when we were 3 - 0 down away to Sheff Wed in the League Cup. He completely changed the game. 4 - 4 it finished after ET. We couldn't believe the turn around, especially after some of my mates wanted to go home at HT. Almost won the game apart from big Doug gave away a penalty when we were leading 4-3.

Okay,so I am still just getting over him giving away that penalty v Sheffield Wednesday in that League Cup Quarter Final...

3-0 down to 4-3 up. Then big Doug...

I'm sorry, but for me I tensed up every time the ball came near big Doug. He had at least one mistake in him every game. Much preferred Pates and McLaughlin in the centre, not forgetting cult heroes of that time, Joey Jones and Mickey Thomas. In fact looking back that was an exciting team 84/85 as well as 83/84

We did. We beat 2-0 in the last game of the season. If Bolton had drawn against us Everton would have beaten relegated instead: Everton drew at home to Wimbledon. A strange game at the Bridge. Chelsea fans hoping that Bolton would score an equaliser when we were winning 1-0. Jody Morris scored a second goal near the end - it is the only time I can recall a Chelsea goal being booed.

Yep that's true.   Good day.  Shirts of for the Chelsea

Yes, but never saw play. I remember hoping we'd unearthed a bargain prolific striker, but he never did anything.

He was prolific in Scotland at something, not sure what. Saw him play his debut against Liverpool, one game was enough to see he just was not going to make it. I think he only played 2 or 3 more games.

Apologies if this You Tube video has been posted before. In our famous Red White and Green kit

"I looked at all the players afterwards and couldn't find a bruise anywhere!" That did make me laugh. I had visions of him examining all the players while they were in the showers.

Good shout re cult heroes of the time.

1983/84 and 1984/85 gave us so much hope. Particularly after that 1982/83 one. Shudder when I think how close we actually were to the old Division 3!

James Docherty had a brief career at Chelsea. Signed from East Stirling for £45,000 . A decent enough fee back then for a player from the lower Scottish Leagues. Made a substitute appearance v Liverpool on 3 March 1979. Petar Borota Chelsea debut.

Two starts followed in March v West Bromwich Albion, full debut and v QPR when he was subbed. That was it, Chelsea wise.

He moved on a free to Dundee Utd in Nov 79. Looks like the same time as Eamonn Bannon moved there..Bannons fee was £170,000.
