Reminds me of Vardy both good in their own ways yet never really appreciated though for different reasons.

Good comparison, Dixon played in the era of two players hyped by media within England, Lineker and Mark Hateley, to be fair Lineker proved himself on the world stage and Hateley had a good spell at Milan which was rare for English players abroad, unfortunately Dixon didn't have those high profile experiences to raise his stock and remember he played for Chelsea in their crumbling down stadium and hooligan following which wasn't so media friendly, Vardy similar plays for unfashionable Leicester and has or had the media darlings Rooney and Kane in front of him. Dixon will always be "England's England's number 9"

Oh how Newcastle must have disliked The Bridge in 1980.

We beat them 6-0 at The Bridge on 25th October 1980 !

Highlights above.

remember rushing home Sunday lunchtime from my under 10/11's match as the games were on the Big Match, firstly Chelsea weren't on TV much and secondly we didn't win that often!!! f**k all those Liverpool and United tv fans those two weekends!!

Some fine names mentioned here. Pat signed for £95,000. How much would he go for now.

No photo description available.

I played against Keith Jones several times. He used to play for the SE Counties side on a Saturday and Battersea Devas in Sunday’s. We were both centre midfield. Half their team were on schoolboy forms with London clubs, but he was the one who stood out.

Good question asked :Some fine names mentioned here. Pat signed for £95,000. How much would he go for now ?

I'd say Pat would go for 'a ridiculous amount.' This amount, however is totally in keeping with what seems to be the market value currently for players !

The current market value of wages and transfer fees was undreamed of back then !

I remember being amazed when Joe Jordan was asking for £1,000 a week for Man Utd back in the summer of (I think) 1981.

They never agreed to this sum and he moved to AC Milan.

To be fair you can see why the game v Stoke was postponed !

There were games played in the 70s where pitches were either frozen or covered in a light dusting of snow.

Time for the trusted orange matchball to appear.

Manchester City - Chelsea 2 - 3

Back on 2oth Jan 1979.

A covering of snow in Manchester, so the orange ball has appeared .

Wonder if we'd played with an orange ball every week in 1978/79 if we'd have doen any better ?!

Nah probably not to be honest.
