Nothing substantial yet, but we've only just signed up The Boas, so I imagine the rumours will increase over the coming days and weeks.

Video of him in action:

I must say, he looks very good and a front three of him, Torres and Sturridge could be wonderful.

Sure, he looks good...you won't like him when he's angry though....

Yeah but they would surely be willing to sell for 35m or so I guess?

After we've just robbed their manager? Wouldn't be surprised if they refuse to sell him out of spite...

the incredible hulk on the right in 4-3-3 would be really exciting, im almost turning green talking about him

This thread is getting quite comic

True.

By the way, if we sign Hulk this site might need a new banner.

I agree, would really bruce the site up!

He looks a lot better than in those clips than when i've seen him play against English opposition.

Funny thing - the video in the first post is that of him thundering shots and showing off moves, which is great, and of our defence absolutely owning him, which is great too, actually. ::ChElSeaFLag::

He certainly looks like he has the potential and the ability, whether he has the strength to make it with us, is another matter. I'd say no right now, we need a more conventional winger.

(He is a god on Fifa, but I don't let it cloud my judgement. )

Very one footed, but certainly a gifted player. Danny is also quite one footed, and he's stated a couple of times that he wants to play as a striker. That means we may go 4-4-2, or not see Danny at all.

With him and Danny on the wings, I can see it being like Duff and Robben MkII

Forget Falcao if we are signing anyone from there this season it should be him. Not your typical inverted winger either in the fact that without the ball he holds wide on the right quite regularly as well as coming inside. I actually think he'd work well with Malouda on the other side.

His fee will be large no doubt about it, but a guy with big numbers on that right hand side is pretty much priority number 1 in my book.

He is a forward converted into a winger. I dont think he'd be as affective in PL because this league is much faster and demanding than Portuguese league. If we are looking at wingers why not go for a proper one.

You mean like that Cristiano Ronaldo bloke?

I think Hulk would be an excellent player on that wide side, and an excellent complement to Torres.

Edit: some thoughts I posted on another site:

Agreed on Hulk. I didn't want him the first time we were linked with him about two seasons ago but he's more than proven himself I think.

His similarity to Ronaldo (minus the tricks) is scary and I think he rather than Falcao (who is a great striker nonetheless) would form a nice foil/option to Torres.

haga, do you remember Torres at Atletico? And do you remember the lengths Atletico went to try and find a perfect partner for him- think Mista, Aguero etc- and ultimately failed? I think we can safely say the problem is Torres and not the partner player. It's not that he is incapable of being partnered in attack, it's that he is a shadow of the player he is when he plays as a lone striker.

Torres likes to start central and attract the attention of two centre-backs or the DM. He then drifts across the channels to recieve the ball, thereby either dragging a player horribly out of position and getting himself one-vs-one against a player. Hulk seemed to thrive doing that in Villas-Boas' system, Varela or Falcao taking the opposite channel and then it would work its way to Hulk in plenty of space. Drogba at his best was playing the Hulk role last season, moving wide and cutting in.

The other thing that Ronaldo (and Drogba to a different extent) showed in the EPL is that defenses have no idea how to handle a winger with height and strength. Get a decent crosser playing opposite flank to Hulk and it's virtually a free header every single time.

Ronaldo doesnt play in the proper winger role anymore so no, not even him.

I was thinking someone like Young.

  • 2 weeks later...

Porto star striker Hulk has offered a thinly-veiled plea for Chelsea to meet his contract release clause, which is reportedly worth a staggering €100million (£89.5m).

"I have signed for five years at Porto and my desire is to see out the deal," Hulk is quoted as saying in Portuguese media.

"I believe that it is not easy to pay my release clause. But if any club is able, it is Chelsea. If Abramovich arrives with the money, this is positive for the club (Porto).

"But I insist that my head is with Porto."

I think he could have been sold for a third of this sum if he really wanted to leave, he is a perfect fit for premier leauge and chelsea.
