Amy Winehouse RIP

Featured Replies

According to zane Lowe on twitter.

Sad news, when sober she had an amazing voice, but a troubled soul and sad to see her not recover

Tragic waste of a talented but self-destructive life.

From the BBC:

Amy Winehouse found dead, aged 27

Singer Amy Winehouse, 27, has been found dead at her home, the Press Association has reported.

Last month, the north Londoner pulled out of her European tour after she was jeered at her comeback gig in Serbia for appearing too drunk to perform.

For 90 minutes, she mumbled through parts of songs and at times left the stage - leaving her band to fill in.

The troubled singer had a long battle with drink and drugs which overshadowed her musical career in recent years.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed that a 27-year-old woman had died in Camden and that the cause of death was as yet unexplained.

London Ambulance Service had been called to the flat at 1554 BST and sent two ambulances but the woman died, it said.

Winehouse had won widespread acclaim, aged 20, with her 2003 debut album, Frank.

But it was 2006's Back to Black which brought her worldwide stardom, winning five Grammy Awards.

Just last night we talked about her with some friends of mine. Some of them were suppose to see her perform live earlier this summer, but the gig was canceled. The music wasn't really my cup of tea, but you could hear that she was really talented. It's a shame she couldn't beat her inner demons. Rest in peace.

Expect the same papers that mercilessly harassed her to print moving tributes tommorow.

Very sad news indeed, but as others have said, not that surprising. Even sadder when you think that one of her famous song's refrain is about her refusing to go to rehab.

Expect the same papers that mercilessly harassed her to print moving tributes tommorow.

True, but at the same time I have a memory of a thread on here where people slated her mercilessly. So we'd better not throw too many stones...

Very sad, unfortunately, only bought to light when the death is that of someone famous.

I was fortunate enough to be among of a massive social group in the late 80's - early 90's. Some moved into the rave scene, when it was really underground and an up and coming vibrant scene, others were hard core party goers. The one thing all had in common was, that everyone was celebrated as someone who knew how to have a good time.

In the last five years I have been to as many funerals you could relate to drugs or drink in some way, all of these people were first on invites to parties and had no problem attracting partners, rather than the losers the media associates with this kind of death.

In my opinion it's all about choices, some of the group moved away from the scene completely, others dabbled as recreational users, the dead didn't change their lifestyle in any way. Surely, if you were hugely talented with a substantial income, don't you have more choices available to you to move away from that lifestyle?

On the flip side having a substantial income opens the door to many more vices amongst which is access higher price drugs. Once you're hooked then reality goes out of the window no matter how talented or rich you are

No real shock I suppose, but no less horrible for it. As Oscar Levant said, theres a fine line between genius and insanity. Though if the rumours are true and she did indeed take her own life my sympathy for her will be much less.

If she did take her own life then she had fallen lower than many of us thought and wouldn't deserve any less sympathy. More if anything, but not less.

Falling that low is a f*cking nightmare, trust me.

I cant agree im afraid, and I realise that might sound harsh. But for me any sympathy will always be for those left behind, as its a cowards way out and only really impacts on the lives of anyone who loved her and now will have to come to terms with her suicide. I speak as someone who has had this happen in my life, and thats how I felt at the time and still feel now.
