Posted November 5, 201113 yr FIFA have apparently banned England from displaying poppies on their shirts when playing Spain next week. WTF!!! Surely that is racism of the highest order? The only positive I can take from it is that the press may (and I do stress may) just focus on that rather than the JT affair. FIFA you really are a f**king disgrace!!
November 5, 201113 yr How is it racist, I don't quite see it? Silly and needlessly priggish: oh yes, absolutely.
November 5, 201113 yr FIFA can f**k off honestly. It's a friendly England should where a coat and tie if they want to. The idea of not being able to provide a simple gesture to remember those poor young men is a disgrace.
November 5, 201113 yr Author FIFA would probably not even exist if it hadn't been for the likes of those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
November 5, 201113 yr Author How is it racist, I don't quite see it? Silly and needlessly priggish: oh yes, absolutely. You can bet your bottom dollar that if such a gesture had been made against any ethnic group then absolutely it would be deemed as racist. In this instance English people (of all ethnicities) are being discriminated against purely for wanting to remember those who sacrificed their lives. The world has gone f**king mad I tell you.
November 5, 201113 yr This is a complete joke, and if our fa allow themselves to be dictated to over this then ther at even more spineless than I thought.
November 7, 201113 yr Please, please the F.A.,put the poppies on the shirt, just what the hell can those tossers do about it,(shame on them).
November 7, 201113 yr Yes, much as I hate to disagree with Geezer, I can't see that it's racist, for it's not targeting any particular race. If anything it seems to be setting out to offend absolutely everyone. What a totally moronic gesture! Have they lost touch with reality?
November 8, 201113 yr Easy way round it is have the Royal British Legion sponsor the national team for a week or so and use the poppy as its logo ........or just put one on anyway and tell fifa to deal with it.
November 8, 201113 yr Apparently they are afraid that if they allow this, other countries may want to wear an emblem that does not have the same symbolic as the poppy - easy cope out Put it on the shirt and say f**k em - what can they do ban us from wearing a shirt in the EM
November 8, 201113 yr What those numbnuts at FIFA need to remember is that all those soldiers who lost their lives & any chance of a future, may well have been football fans to.
November 8, 201113 yr Author I've sobered up since I initially posted this but I'm still gggrrrrrrrrrrrr about it!! Whether or not this is racist it is morally wrong to deprive us of the right to pay our respects to those who laid down their lives not only for those in their own country but for everyone around the world.
November 8, 201113 yr The annoying thing is FIFA are basically saying it cant be used as its a political thing, when its anything but. Theres nothing political, racist or anything like that about it.
November 8, 201113 yr Is there a FIFA email address that we can inundate with emails expressing our indignation at their crass stupidity? There is nothing remotely political about the poppy - it is a symbol of gratitude to those who dies to save the free world.
November 8, 201113 yr Who is this idiot Lord Ousley or Lord f**kface, whatever his name is. He can go to bloody hell.
November 8, 201113 yr Author Is there a FIFA email address that we can inundate with emails expressing our indignation at their crass stupidity? November 9, 201113 yr Please, please the F.A.,put the poppies on the shirt, just what the hell can those tossers do about it,(shame on them). I agree. Tell them fine, and then wear them anyway. I sincerely hope every England fan is wearing them in the crowd. Could relations be any worse? Worthless organization. Completely and totally worthless.
November 9, 201113 yr On a slightly related note, why didn't we have a poppy on our shirt on Saturday? We have done in the past.
November 9, 201113 yr This article shows just how ridiculous this decision is, it basically points out poppy pins have become a symbol of remembering fallen soldiers.Such a moronic stance to take by FIFA, yet not really surprising. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15637074 I thought the reason we didnt wear them this weekend was because we had held our own ceremony at our last home game, with the Chelsea Pensioners leading the way.
November 9, 201113 yr I think its pretty obvious what this whole thing is about, its FIFA getting their own little petty revenge for England calling them out over the World Cup selection process. Theres nothing political, racist or anything else, its just a bunch of bureaucrats pissing their pants over a way to stick two fingers up at England. We are one of the highest earners for both FIFA and as clubs for UEFA, the money we make them through football is phenominal. So I say we tell them to shove it up their arses and withdraw from all FIFA sanctioned competitions. Edited November 9, 201113 yr by dkw
November 9, 201113 yr On a slightly related note, why didn't we have a poppy on our shirt on Saturday? We have done in the past. Probably just an oversight. We did however, have a poppy on our home shirts the previous week against Arsenal. West Brom were apparently among a handful of clubs "guilty" of the same oversight. Richard Keys yesterday attempted to make a case against the club, stating that "Chelsea were the worst offenders given their history", a history which only last week that despicable lowlife scumbag claimed started a decade ago. I was going to turn the radio off, but instead emailed Talksh*te asking since they were so quick to condemn the club for this oversight, whether they would be just as quick to give praise for this: Chelsea help launch Poppy Appeal They didn't read my email out.. no surprise there.
November 9, 201113 yr FIFA have sort of relented and are allowing them to wear poppies on the black armband, not sure if thats too much better really.
