Worrying indeed. Fortunately for Rangers however, such is the gulf between the old firm and the rest of the Scots Prem that even an automatic 10 point deduction may not be enough to prevent Rangers from qualifying for next year's Champions League and the income that comes with it.

Someone on twitter earlier posted that given the connection between the two clubs Roman should just buy Rangers and use it as a Chelsea "B" squad. Playing every game in the SPL certainly would help some of our boys develop!

Seriously though, I hope they get this sorted out. Want to see Rangers continue to do well.

Scottish football is f**ked, it has been for a long time. All the pitches that used to be packed with kids throwing down jumpers as goal posts and you played until "next goal wins," have long since shut up shop

Now it's a few "rec centers" and then te fields of old are covered in glass bottles and burnt put cars. It is getting harder and harder for kids in Scotland to be noticed or to have access to people that can help the, through their careers.

If Rangers do go down, then it will be the end of Scottish football. There isn't the same amount of fervor around a Celtic v Dundee game as there is in the Old Firm. And despite what the Celtic fans may be saying, Celtic need Rangers to survive.

I think that their current situation may be similar to that of the banks in the US.... Too big to fail. Also, something that the independence advocators may want to think about.

The collapse of Setanta has hurt the SPL bad, they built a bit of a bubble with that TV money and it really has gone downhill.

"Bubble" is right. Setanta overpaid, failed and in the process seem to have made a mess of the economics of the SPL.

As a Gers fan these are worrying times but fear not, We have a support base that few clubs in the world can match and we will NEVER see our club die, NO SURRENDER is our cry.

The HMRC case could be £49 Million and with other costs/penalties ,it could be a final bill of £75M. Rangers Chairman Craig Whyte stated last night.

HMRC are pushing for Rangers to be put into administration rather than allowing them to seek protection against their creditors. If they are successful in this things will be far worse for the club and could quite conceivably go out of business unless Whyte tries to shift the assets into a different business leaving the old Rangers business bankrupt due to the liabilities that would still belong to them.

HMRC's position is understandable as they risk having to write off the entire debt.

I see that Rangers have in fact entered administration. It now appears that due to UEFA rules, I may have been mistaken in my previous assumption that Rangers could still qualify for next season's Champions League.

The repercussions of the current situation could be more immediate still. Rangers' next fixture, against Kilmarnock at the weekend, may not go ahead due to inadequate funds with which to pay the police.

I will confess to being no great fan of Scottish football but find it extremely worrying that a club of such magnitude and global reputation as Glasgow Rangers are currently faced with the very real prospect of going out of existence.

If, as is being reported on the Beeb, the main issue is with 75million owed to the taxman, that is 75 million owed to you and me.

I know that we have a very strong bond with Rangers, but what the f**k were they doing messing around with the tax money? Magnitude and Global Reputation aside, that's a decent hospital they owe me.

And this is me being tolerant, by the way

What with Portsmouth, Redknapp & now Rangers F.C. it seams that the Inland Revenue has finally had enough of football & it's issues with income tax.

Rangers will be ok but what about the long term?.

Scottish football is poor fair if the truth were told, the days when if you had a Scottish international in your team, you must have been a good side, are long gone.

Why not intergrate the Scot Premier League into the League Cup?,seeded if need be.

More interest, more t.v. cash & maybe a chance of a competetive match against the 'Gers?.

Clubs have thought that they could use Inland Revenue to give themselves and interest free loan for a long time. Inland Revenue have finally got pissed off and started going after them.

As I said with the Redknapp thread, tax avoidance steals money from everyone in the country. What's making it doubly worse is that if they're not doing paying PAYE, they're stealing from their staff too (although I'm not sure what the situation with national insurance and tax paid to the company that isn't passed on to the taxman).

Rangers instantly lost 10 points ,but are still at the moment comfortably in 2nd place. Its all very hour,by hour at the moment.

You are being far more tolerant than we deserve. This tax bill is not the problem and we are contesting the EBTs. Our problem is the new owner has not paid the PAYE for any employees since he took over. This Bill now stands at £9 million..We owe one of Whytes companies £18 million after transfering the bank debt to this new company..We owe Ticketus £24 million as Whyte took out this loan in advance for the next 3 years season ticket money and if the tribunal in the EBTs case goes against us we owe another £75 million +

I am just a normal punter but i have had a season ticket since 1981 and follow follow home and away...How was this allowed to happen to my club?

On a lighter note my 15 year old son who has had a season ticket alongside me for the last 10 years asked what would happen if we went bust. I said we wouldn't get to as many games but i would take him down to Stamford Bridge more often...The wee sh*t is on facebook telling his pals he wants us bust to get down to see Chelsea more often. Sorry but that will be a clip round the head for him!!
