Posted April 16, 201213 yr I've been a Chelsea fan my entire life and my entire family has supported the club since my great grandfather came to London in the 1920's. I was at the game at wembley yesterday for what was an amazing game. However, I had one complaint and it really spoiled the experience for me. A group of fans near the end decided it would be perfectly acceptable to start singing anti-Spurs songs about Auchvitz, killing jews and making gas chamber hissing noises. Of course this isn't anti-spurs but instead anti-semetic. I myself am Jewish (not religious at all) and am becoming increasingly uncomfortable turning up at games and hearing some of my fellow supporters (hopefully a stupid minority, like the anti-hillsborough gang) doing this and thinking its just anti-spurs. I love the club, but I just wanted to share my experience of yesterdays game, one that should have been one of the best games I've seen but obviously spoiled for me personally (although beating spurs 5-1 was still amazing). Was I the only person there hearing this, it seems to me like this Y-word campaign that Frank was in has completely floundered!
April 16, 201213 yr I was at the game and didn't hear this at all, so it must have been a very small minority! Obviously morons with no idea!
April 16, 201213 yr At games like Spurs you will get the idiots turn up just to do stuff like that. Just like a few years ago with Millwall and west ham, all idiots that turned up for a fight. Some people never grow up.
April 16, 201213 yr I am so sorry you had such an unpleasant experience, Blue Winters. Such behaviour is totally despicable. The management should somehow identify them and ban them from buying tickets. High time the Y word campaign was resurrected. May I say at the same time, I'm glad you have joined us. Have a look around the forums. You will find we are all (well, nearly all) really nice people!
April 16, 201213 yr Funny you mention this because I didn't hear anything in my section but met up with my mate after the game who had been in another section and he said he heard lots of that and felt really uncomfortable. Not acceptable at all.

Someone needs to explain to me why it's acceptable to post "y*d" on this site over and over. It's a racist pejorative, or it was when I was growing up. It's no different than n*gger. Why is its use condoned? I'm baffled.

April 16, 201213 yr Why am I quoted??? Now I'm baffled! Sheddie, not saying you do it! I'm just piggybacking on your comment that it's only a few morons. I wonder if it isn't more than a few? Anti-semitism seems to be acceptable it it's aimed at Spurs. I don't understand that.

April 16, 201213 yr I echo what moi has said, for years now we have had a small section of pond life attach themselves to our club back in the late 70's and 80's it was the N.F scum that dragged us into the gutter and good ol' Batesy pretty much sorted those tw@ts out, but unfortunately there is still a small section of this scum attached to us, so I would like here and now to give this advice to any of those responsible for what you have described, and also for what occurred during the minutes silence. "YOU ARE NOT CHELSEA SUPPORTERS AND WE DON'T WANT YOU! GO AND PEDAL YOUR FILTH SOMEWHERE ELSE AND DO NOT ASSOCIATE YOURSELVES WITH OUR CLUB. YOU ARE THE LOWEST OF THE LOW AND BELONG IN SOME SORT OF INSTITUTION FOR THE CRIMINALLY INSANE. NOW DO EVERYONE A FAVOR AND DISAPPEAR BACK UNDER THE STONE THAT YOU CRAWLED OUT FROM" Edited April 16, 201213 yr by Fansince65
April 16, 201213 yr Author wxwax, well i personally don't think the word y*d is that offensive to me and is actually a jewish slang word that litteraly means jew. obviously having lots of jewish friends (a lot of them tottenham fans), they love the jewish association with their club and hence call themselves the y*d army because they are proud of it. the problem arises when people put a lot of hatred behind the word (i.e its not offensive to call a black person black, but if u put venom/spite in the word it obviously is racist). ironically these morons don't seem to realise that Roman Abromovich is jewish, so i guess it proves your comment correct fansince65. anyways its nice/comforting to know that most our fans are decent and hopefully next time i see this i wont p*ssy out and just go tell a steward.
April 16, 201213 yr Similar generation to Blue Winters I surmise. First visit to the (near) original SB as a 5 year old in 1949. I was at the spurs home game last season, the same thing happened and continued on Fulham Broadway after the game. We seem to have a minority of morons amongst supporters- were they the same group who reacted shamefully to the requested silence in memoriam to Hillsborough? Identify,Ban and prosecute
April 16, 201213 yr I need to hear your view on how to overcome that in a public forum, and point me to topics where admin have openly 'condoned' it? I see the posts containing "y*d" as an epithet all the time here, mod. I don't see them removed and I don't see the posters banned. If they have been, my apologies. if they haven't been, then surely that's condoning it?
April 16, 201213 yr The word is filtered and it depends on the context it is used. We cannot change the history of football in the way some teams (and firms) are referred to. The website does not in any way condone its use at all.
April 16, 201213 yr Author bar24rat, im only 23 so i understand that it was a lot worse in the 70's and 80's, and i admire the club itself in its attempts to kick it out. but i just think the stewards should be a little stricter (even at the bridge), so we can stamp out all forms of racism and stupid anti-hillsborough chanting once and for all so we can all enjoy the game!
April 16, 201213 yr Author p.s the mod is right. spurs fans happily refer themselves as the y*d army, and the sad truth is unless that changes its not going to stop.
April 16, 201213 yr The word y*d (/ˈjiËd/; y*ddish: ייִד)[clarification needed] is a slang Jewish ethnonym. Its usage may be controversial in modern English language. It is not usually considered offensive when pronounced /ˈjiËd/ (rhyming with deed), the way y*ddish speakers say it, though some may deem the word offensive nonetheless. When pronounced /ˈjɪd/ (rhyming with did), it can generally be perceived as a pejorative—and is used as a derogatory epithet by antisemites.[1] Supporters of Tottenham Hotspur F.C. adopted the nickname "y*d" (or "y*ddo") and often identify as "y*d Army". Used as a badge of pride by the Jewish communities based near to the North London football club, such usage is not without controversy.
April 16, 201213 yr p.s the mod is right. spurs fans happily refer themselves as the y*d army, and the sad truth is unless that changes its not going to stop. That would be my point. Tottenham fans refer to themselves as y*ds and the term has, amongst football folk, just become any other word like spurs, mancs, blues, reds etc, people use it meaning nothing other than tottenham.

Tottenham fans refer to themselves as y*ds and the term has, amongst football folk, just become any other word like spurs, mancs, blues, reds etc, people use it meaning nothing other than tottenham. I would say quite a lot of fans who use it against Spud fans dont even understand the meaning of the word.
April 16, 201213 yr This subject was done to death a while ago - might be an idea for anyone interested to try and find the old thread.

I think this is the real problem, not just the use of the "y" word, it's all that other stuff about Auschwitz and killing Jews and Gas noises. This is the kind of stuff that makes me sick to my stomach.
