ozboy
We need to beat Wigan this weekend, just to prove we can win games. Then the following weekend its Liverpuddle v us and Arse v Manu. That should be an opportunity to make up some points.
mad_mac
could be the most important weekend so far! However, we need to win against Wigan first
ethicalstrategy
I think it is time for us to stop listening to all the crap that's being spouted in the media and get back to the dominating way we were playing when we beat Barca. for the Wigan game - injuries permitting - I would like to see us play 4-4-2 but not in a diamond. Hopefully it would look like this: -----------------Cech Ferreria----JT-------Carvalho------Cole Essien-----Ballack--Lampard-----Robben ------------Sheva------Drogba Essien has shown enough at right back this season to convince me he can be effective on the right. Robben will have work a bit harder defensively. The big advantage would be that we get two up front without losing width. I think Drogba will like that sort of formation and I think it will suit Sheva a lot more too. That still leaves us the option to push Essien inside and bring on SWP or Kalou. (or even Joey if he isn't really injured forever!) Makelele will get a rest which it looks to me he really needs. We really need to go on a winning streak to put some pressure on Utd. Let's get it started against Wigan!

bonetti
I love that but I think that A Cole is suspended for WiganKev Is that because of his moronic behaviour at the Macclesfield match when he asked for a yellow for not moving back a few yards to take a throw? yorkleyblue
I think it was exactly that! Didn't he get something similar against the Spuds or some other muppets for not moving back for a free kick? Kev
BLUENUT
The title WILL be decided within the next few weeks. Will we be within touching distance by then, top or miles behind? I know we've missed JT recently but our season's turning point was THAT game at Reading, when we lost the best, and one of the best keepers in the league. Hilario came in and did well enough in his first couple of games but more recently has been the weakest link. His indicision to come for crosses or stay, weither to catch or punch has filtered throughout or once solid defence. This years title hopes rest on goal keepers! At the moment we have Hilario, weither it's his fault or not he's conceding at least once a game and leaves us needing 2 goals to win. Our clean sheets went out the window in that Reading game aswell! Utd have struggled in the keeper department for the past few seasons, no coincidence in the lack of titles during this time! but this year Van der Sar looks solid between the sticks. Am I the only one who thinks the exclusion of Carlo is more to do with selection rather than injury? He seems to have been out forever with this so-called calf strain! We must win our next 5-6 matches to put the pressure on Manu but with 'the Hilarious one' between the posts our chances become slimmer than Peter Crouch after a fortnight at weightwatchers. Prior to the Villa game he had conceded 2 goals in each of our previous 4 matches. It obviously makes it difficult to win matches when you've gotta get 3 at the other end!! Come on Petr, we need you fit!!

Valerie
Am I the only one who thinks the exclusion of Carlo is more to do with selection rather than injury? Oh no, it's absolutely feasable that an untried Reserves keeper, who was about to try out for, what was it, Motherwell? is on the bench just to keep a hugely experienced keeper out. german-blue
---------------------Hilario---------------------- ------PF-------Ricci-------JT---------Bridge---- ---SWP-------Essien-----Lamps----Robben--- ----------------Sheva--Drogba------------------ Would love to see that line-up. Not sure about JT and Robben, any news on their fitness ?
BLUENUT
I take it your refering to Makalemby? We'll Hedman has been on the bench for most of our league games and I don't think the youngster has featured, bar once or twice. I remember Carlo saying he was fit for a game earlier in the year and Jose kept with Hilario. Something isn't right. A calf strain doesn't keep a goalkeeper out for over 6 weeks! What would be gained by not selecting Carlo if he is fit? Any speculations?
footiemadman007
Against Wigan - of course we need to win in order to keep chance on Manwho - I would love to see us give some reseve defenders a run out along with a win because it would make the media stand up and take note that we do have a reseve team/academy/etc and that we don't rely souly on Roman's billions.. Manwho have Aston Villa at the Theatre of Screams and on Sunday's FA Cup performance from the Villa there is every chance that O'Neils men can do the same to United as they did to us on Tuesday 2nd.. and grab a draw against United - I see it as this because Manwho got so much luck against them in the FA Cup tie (90+2mins winner from Solsjaer, not deserved) that Villa have got to have the luck back really.. Hopefully the lead will be down to 4pts come the end of the week - and we can head to Liverpool knowing a win would take us to within a point and place the pressure on the sunday evening manure match v Arse at the Emirates.. fingers crossed

I don't like to throw a spanner in the works of what sounds like a nice outcome but the truth of the matter is that in that FA Cup game Villa were the lucky ones - lucky that they only lost by one goal. ON another day Utd could have hammered them - it was another game which showed that if Ronaldo and Rooney don't perform then Utd struggle to win games however they were still much the better side and I don't expect Villa to take anything from the game in the league. Ture, Utd did have the 90/10 percentage of the match.. but defensively O'Neil has got them sorted.. plus he has now gained a Utd defender on loan (Bardsley I think his name is), don't know whether he can play v Utd but that will help the Villa defensively. As you say 'lucky that they only lost by one goal' - that could easily be 'hugely lucky to beat/draw against Utd'.. you never know.. I can see Villa grabbing a point from OT.. loz
He won't be able to play ( no loan players can now) and in all honesty he isn't that good. I saw him playing for Rangers a few times before he got frozen out of the team due to a training ground incident and he is nothing more than average. Happy days I wouldn't count the points yet mate, Arsenal are no mugs and I think they will give you a tough time, and if Sorenson is back you wont be getting a helping hand from the keeper Wigan is the game where we must get back on track and I predict a 1-0 as Riccy is gonna be the man in defense. Hope your right about the Verm but 5-0? no Jose dont like huge scores
