Chelsea: The most promising youth players in the world?

Featured Replies

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1324524-top-50-young-players-in-world-football-right-now-21-and-under/page/2

I was reading this bleacher list on the top 50 under-21 players in the world at this moment, and it occurred to me that Chelsea may just have the most promising set up of youthful players in the world. More so than Barca, Arsenal, or any other club that are famous in this department.

According to this, and I think I agree, Chelsea own 6 of the most promising young talents in existence including the number 1. spot (I think you can all guess who got that), 8 if you include the honourable mentions at the end! We may or may not be strong enough to win the premier league this year but surely it won't be long until we are once again one of Europe's most dominating teams?

A lot of you have probably already come to this conclusion but it only really sunk in for me after reading this report.

Indeed.

If we keep buying young talent then the already young talen we have like Josh are not going to get a look in.

We have two players who'd probably start for an all-world U21 team (Hazard and Courtois) and a third with a very good shot at making the bench (Oscar). Liverpool have who, exactly, anywhere near that level?

Obviously we need to make sure our prospects get time on the pitch, either at Stamford Bridge or out on loan, but there are very few teams out there with as much young talent as we have at the moment.

We have an abundance of youth....shame we haven't had a manager that is prepared to play them and an owner that would rather keep buying high priced players for instant gratification....I would be prepared to suffer for a couple ofseasons and play the youngsters long term together and leave the old guys on the bench.....but that will never happen

I think Oscar would probably start, I can't think of many number 10's at U21 would .

Bit sad not to see Josh in there but he has no where near enough games behind him

I think Neymar, Hazard, and Gotze would all probably be ahead of him for attacking midfield positions - if you're playing 4-2-3-1, that's your "3" right there. In another formation, maybe you could convince me he starts.

The point is we have three top, top class players in the 20-21 age range.

Was talking about U19/18's. Prospects is the word you used, think that would have been more appropriate.

Courtois

Montoya

Papadopolous

Varane

Nastasic

Romulo

Verratti

Hazard

Oscar

Gotze

Neymar.

Would be my best u21 team. But loads more like ter stegen, trailer, Lucas etc..

OK; the initial post was about U21s, so I assumed that was the age frame we were looking at. Looking at players aged 17-19, our best prospects are probably Lukaku, Josh, Piazon, Bamford, and Kalas. That's still quite a good set of players. Lukaku's had a couple good matches in the Premiership - he's been as good this year as Sterling, if in less playing time. Josh has impressed against good teams in the CL and League Cup and is now doing well in the Championship. Kalas is one of the better defenders in Holland at the moment. Honest question: who do Liverpool have who's better than those five? I'll grant you Sterling on the same level, even maybe ahead of Piazon/Bamford, but he's one player.

Also, if we're talking about promising young players, I think it's completely fair to cite our ridiculous pile of 20/21-year-olds; I didn't even mention De Bruyne, but he's also looking pretty nice.

We've done a really good job the last couple of years of getting talent in to the club. Now we just need to make sure everyone gets enough chances to develop.

How many Liverpool youth players do you know of exactly, and how often do you watch them?

Liverpool must have some good youngsters, they didn't defeat our U21 for a joke.

Most of our better youngsters are out on loan, whereas a lot of Liverpool are still there. Definitely a few decent players though I think yesil is being lined up to start tomorrow for the first team.

We currently have 20 players out on loan, and our under 18`s beat theres a day later.

Big blue, beat me to it :good2:

Very few, and I rarely watch non-Chelsea youth matches. Hence my asking who apart from Sterling would be on the level of our best 18/19-year-olds - he's the only one I know off the top of my head, but it's very possible I'm missing some good players. My initial response that Chelsea were obviously better was based on including 20 and 21-year-olds, and I am pretty sure you don't have anyone like Hazard, Oscar, or Courtois.

If that list is based on potential/promise, Piazon should be much higher up. And lol at Welbeck being in the top 10... He's good, and will make a good striker in future, but he's between Alcantara, El Sharaawy and Oscar... really?

Fair points.

From his previous experience with Real Madrid, Mourinho may decide to give some of our youth players the opportunity they need to develop.

The 20 year old Thomas Kalas is one who comes to mind. The 6ft 2in defender made his senior international debut with the Cech Republic in Nov.2012.

Mourinho has hinted he could be one of the players kept in the squad.

The 19  year old Thorgan Hazard, Eden's brother,  is another to watch out for. Anderlecht are keen to keep him on loan but Mourinho may decide to keep him.

The 18 year old Nathaniel Chalobah spent last season with Zola at Watford. He is a central defender but was used as a holding midfielder at Watford.

He is another player Mourinho might want to ease into the first team.

I almost stopped reading when I saw Verratti was number 50, then I saw Insigne was 46 and I did stop reading.

Edit: I had to read on, Lukaku is 31st while Jack Rodwell is 23rd and Welbeck is 8th?! Not to mention that idiot thinks Hazard is better than Neymar.
