^ Oh SP, come on mate. If I did a search I could find you hundreds of posts from people saying Torres should start at the expense of Ba (and thousands at the expense of Sturridge prior to Jan), it happens on this thread and it happens on every single match thread. I had a disagreement with many prior to the Fulham game for example. People were telling me he was bang in form. This was 3 days after Ba had just hit a screamer against City. If you mean everyone thinks we should buy better, that may be true but there are many now saying they would like to keep Torres on. That's right? Let's shell out 170k a week on Torres while we have Ba, Lukaku hopefully and AN Other. The mind boggles. I mean, Torres is clearly our most inferior striker.

If there's so many go find us some, it must be easy. Why don't you get this, absolutely no one is saying he has been consistently good, no one has said they want him to definitely stay, no one is saying he has been anything other than an abject failure at Chelsea. All people are doing is given praise when it is due, which is very rare but still sometimes deserved. The abuse and vitriol aimed at anyone who dares to do this is pathetic, as is people making stuff up.

just because this thread is somehow dark and negative, here some positive words from mata about torres (hopefully you lot´s won´t say he is a 'only' fanboy)

You’ve always said that Fernando Torres played an important role in you becoming a Chelsea player. What did he tell you?

“During the National Team meetings, he always came up to me and joked about how well-liked I was at Chelsea, how great I could be for the team and how well I’d fit in. He told me how fantastic things would turn out for me if I moved there and how much I would love London, and he committed himself to help me in every way he could. He played a fundamental role in me signing for the club, not only when it came to me and my decision, but he also talked to the club and made them seriously consider me as a potential buy. I’m really grateful towards him. Right after I arrived, he was at my disposal: he gave me his car, an English cell-phone, he showed me around town, etc.”

When it comes to special relationships, yours with Fernando can definitely be considered as such, right?

“Yes, of course. Together we’ve won the World Cup, the Euro Cup, the Champions League and the FA Cup. Besides, he assisted my goal in the Euro final… Personally, I feel very privileged and lucky to have the chance to get to know him as he really is, and for being able to consider myself his friend. He’s a fantastic striker who’s done many great things; first at Atleti, then at Liverpool, then in the National Team, and now at Chelsea.”

He’s talked about how supportive you were when he was having a really rough time…

“Yes, he was specially beaten down last year. He wasn’t going through a good time during the beginning of last season so I tried to help him, to be by his side at all times and to make him feel that I trusted, trust and will always trust him.”

Do you think that Euro final moment was his way of saying “Thank you”?

“Man, what he did for me was much more than anything I could’ve ever done for him. He left me all alone in front of the goal, with no goalkeeper and with a ball at my feet to pounce into the net. He’s still talking about it you know, jokingly, saying I am now a “big deal” and “famous” thanks to him (laughs).”

You’ve said before that the Euro goal has been the most important one in your life (so far). What was going through your head at the time?

“Without a doubt it has been the most important one. All my family and friends were present; I hadn’t gotten playing time until then… I remember I ran like a madman towards Fernando and yelled at him “It’s yours! This goal is yours!”. Then I looked up to the stands and saw my whole family there, beaming with happiness.”

Some say keep, none say as our first choice!

The wages are irrelevant, the board decided that, not the player!

What abuse and vitriol? I haven't had a dig at anyone that hasn't had a dig first, but you've chosen to ignore that. I haven't made anything up, that's just wishful thinking on your part. I mentioned the Fulham thread so take a look at the first few pages, but there are countless other examples. Personally, what I find pathetic is your overuse of the word "pathetic", but there you go.

See the myth goes on, you will have to go back 100 pages to find anyone saying that Torres should be starting for us, from whatever poster.

Everyone knows we need a new striker, just not everyone is full of hate for our current number 9

Really? Only 5 pages ago Bluenutter wrote this after Nando's stellar display against the minnows of Swiss Basil:

"It doesn't work like that in football though. Yes ba should start the next game but if he is a having a stinker against united then he needs to be replaced. And if torres comes on and does well then why shouldn't he get a start against spurs?"

The myth continues? So does denial and false hope.

PS: SP I don't hate Torres. I just realised long ago that he is a very, very poor footballer and we are poorer team with him in it.

Where in that post by bluehatter does he say that Torres should definately start ahead of Ba?

He says whoever plays better should be given the start, nothing more or less.

Just, you may not hate Torres but plenty on here do.

Com'on SP you're using semantics there mate!

The point is that the form player should start, at least I think thats what he's saying.

Now we all know thats not the case but it should be.

Struggling to make this up I really am. You have even quoted me saying ba should start the next game yet you are trying to use this as an example of me saying torres should start. Either you've gone blind or your just mad.

???????????? Have I missed something? Is it in code? Perhaps you could translate it for me.

If he is playing better than ba then he should start. Do you not agree? Or is torres not allowed to start just because he is torres?

OK, so the scenario you set is this;

Ba starts against Man U and has a stinker. He is subbed and Torres comes and plays well. Ergo - Torres should start against Tottenham.

If I may say, your scenario makes the following assumptions that are not based on on logic and past experience:

1. That Ba starts against Man U. Hopefully you are right but I wouldn't be at all suprised to see Nando running out of the tunnel at 3.50pm tomorrow afternoon. You see not all players at Chelsea are picked on form.

2. Ba starts and has a stinker. Since joining us and despite the limited amount of football has he been given, I have not seen him have a complete stinker. Especially against top level opponents. Torres I have seen have plenty of stinkers. Especially against top level oppenents.

3. Torres comes on plays well. I refer you to point 2 above.

Bluehatter, even in the unlikely event that your scenario happen,s can't you see what the Tottenham is going to be? The decider for a CL place. Millions of pounds at stake. Perhaps the future of some of our current squad. Would you really, based on everything you have seen from him in the past two and a bit years, be happy to see Torres to be starting that game?

Sorry, Thfc, I've only just seen this. I didn't mean to be ignoring you.  I think he is a poor soul, who must lie awake at night praying that tomorrow will be the day when he finds his lost self. His body language is very open to interpretation.  Where some see a petulant bloke who doesn't give a damn, I see a man who has lost confidence in himself.  Occasionally a glimpse of his former self bursts through, but not very often.  When he does play badly, I am as sure as I can be that he is not doing it on purpose and that he is miserable with himself about it.

The 50 million pound price was not of his doing - we can blame the board for that.  At the time people in the Torres thread on here were screaming for him to be bought.  I don't remember anyone coming into the thread saying "NO, don't buy him!" But I am open to correction if anyone can find a quotation - if you can be bothered going back that far.

I think it was a great mistake to have played him in that first game against Liverpool.   But that's all water under the bridge.

What I find disconcerting and disagreeable is the level of hatred expressed both for him and for anyone who dares to give him some credit for the few things he does right. "If you don't think as I think, you must be a moron who knows nothing about football."  Yeah, right!

With that statement Moi, I feel like we're two peas in a pod. Albeit a very lonely pod.

Just, your post is all about having a dig at Torres, where earlier you said you didn't hate him?

All bluehatter said was the form player should be picked, you have decided that player will always be anyone else but Torres.

Like I said the only way I'd want to see torres play wednesday is if ba was having a stinker and then torres came on and changed the game in our favour. In answer to your last question I have to admit I'd have my doubts but I want to see the man who is playing better at the minute playing. We always have ba on the bench if torres was putting in a liverpool away esque kind of performance.

Just, your post is all about having a dig at Torres, where earlier you said you didn't hate him?

SP how can you possible construe my previous post as "hate" for Torres? That is an incredible leap and something I think you want to believe. You often accuse the people who lambast Torres as being unfair, perhaps you will recognise the paranoia in your own accusation?

As to the points I make, as ever I am more than happy for you to give me some specifics,(in fact I would welcome it), on where exactly what I have posted is wrong in your opinion.

Do you think like Bluehatter that should Ba start tomorrow and not play well, that Torres would automatically warrant a start against Tottenham? Do you think Torres is in-form?

Torres is clearly in form. He played very well during the week and put in a shift that Ba does not give when played up top alone.

however I'd not play Torres against United purely on the fact he's played midweek football and Ba will be rested and fresh plus he has the edge over them with his goals against them recently.

I'd not cry if Torres started though, after midweek he deserves it IMO.

It would depend on how Torres performed if the situation arose.

In your post you pointed out that Torres was unlikely to play well, if he did come on, and even if he did it would be even unlikelier that he could play well again in the next match.

If he plays well let's give him some credit & that credit should extend to a chance to start the following game. If he doesn't perform then he gets taken off.

We know its not the case but wouldn't it be good to see the form player get a run?

Also Ba has had a couple of bad games for us, lets not pretend otherwise.

At the risk of you all rolling about the floor in paroxysms of mirth, may I ask if it is totally out of the question for both Torres and Ba to start?

Blasphemy

I'd say that against the likes of united and spurs yes it is out of the question. I have always said though that against weaker opponents at home we need 2 strikers starting in order to break teams down.

At the risk of you all rolling about the floor in paroxysms of mirth, may I ask if it is totally out of the question for both Torres and Ba to start?

The difficulty is who to drop, although their is a strong argument to switch to 442 with Ba & Torres up top, Mata & Hazard out wide with maybe Oscar & Luiz in midfield.

I'll get my tin hat on now as the bombs come in as to why I'm wrong.
