You haven't thought about his wages have you?

Most clubs can't afford to pay them and the ones that can wouldn't touch a player of his calibre with a barge pole.

Only clubs with more money than sense such as Anzhi (and us) would come near him and he probably wouldn't want to move to them.

Our best option is probably giving him away for free, just getting him off the wage bill and out the door would be a tremendous boost for the club.

what are you on about ??

Your Anti Torres campaign has warped any sense of realism you may once have possessed.

Of course we'll get 10 Million for him, in fact probably more. He may be crap for us, but someone else will see different, The perfect example is Forlan

He'll make that much for a club in shirt sales alone (not that that should be a criteria when buying a player) i wouldn't be at all suprised if the original fee we paid for Torres has had a large chunk negated by merchandising with his name/photo on it.

You really are a nasty, spiteful Twat that never wastes an opportunity to slag him off :dead_horse:

Apparently, and according to a comment from Feb 11th 2013:

The second biggest football shirt sale in the USA is Chelsea Torres. So although the 50 million fee seems a lot as football reaches pastures of new the revenue created also expands.

And a little over two years ago:

Chelsea find that selling Torres shirts is like printing money

So as with the likes of Beckham and Ronaldo, marketing revenue to be garnered from Torres is still enormous - despite his poor form, and for that reason alone it may be far easier to find a buyer for Torres than some would have you believe.

FORLAN  :dead_horse:

And he's just one example, i'm sure there are many more players who have been crap at big sides and have had better careers elsewhere when sold for a 'good price' IE Cheap compared to what they cost the selling club.

10-15 million will seem a bargain for a club that believes they can get better from him.

What's occuring with those Links TD ?

For the first link, scroll down to the paragraph that begins:

The thing you forget is big name players make a lot of their money back in shirt sales...

The second one should be ok now.

I've since come across another link stating that sales of Torres shirts are third both in North America and globally. By any standards that's a lot of shirts:

So let's talk about Torres and his shirt sales.

Forlan isn't a very compelling example for a variety of reasons. First, he was only 25 when he left Man U. Torres will be 29 in less than a month. There's a much greater chance that a 25 year old will regain his form in a new environment than a 29 year old accomplishing the same thing. Second, Man U got virtually nothing for him. The transfer fee was low single digits, merely 2 or 3 million. Even with the inflated market prices of today, I fail to see how Forlan's transfer would encourage any of us to believe we could get 15 million for Torres. With his pitiful form, diminished physical capabilities, exorbitant wages and age, the only selling point he offers is t-shirt sales. Maybe that's enough to sway some idiot owner out there, we should all pray it is.

Interesting post from an Egyptian on that last link saying that he sees as much of Torres out there as Messi on billboards etc.

Not that i want any of this to affect our pressing need to move him on for the good of all concerned.... except maybe the sponsors accountants

So two then not 'a variety'?, first one i agree with (obviously as it's a fact!), but i have to say the fact that Torres has already reached the heights of world class where Forlan hadn't (still hasn't?).

I would imagine that will/should be reflected in the price paid for him. The reason i used him as an example is purely on the principal that he was sh*te for Manure but still moved to a 'Biggish' club, and in my opinion Torres has a better (for want of a better phrase) 'sales pitch' in most departments.

I suppose we'll see in the summer.... Pleeease Roman.

Spot on.

Forlan struggled because he couldn't adapt to the premier league but he left United before he reached his prime.

Torres is finished as a footballer, he has lost the only thing that made him premier league quality.  His pace and movement.   Unless it's to sell shirts

(why anyone would want a Torres shirt is beyond me) then there is no way any club will buy him especially if we wants a similar wage to what he is on here.

Ps - Forlan was a much better player than Torres ever was and ever will be so he would obviously have a higher resale value.

You'd be well served to consult a dictionary before acting snarky.

Torres reaching the height of being world class is irrelevant IMO. It should be obvious to all but the sight-impaired that he will never again regain those heights of quality. Brigitte Bardot was beautiful back in the day, but I'd certainly decline a tumble in the hay with her if offered today.

Exactly what facet of his game makes Torres' sales pitch more appealing? T-shirt sales and the fact that he was really good 5 years ago before his knees turned to mush? We'll have to agree to disagree, because I don't find that compelling in the slightest.

He was absolutely shocking today, didn't do anything for 80 minutes.

Didn't do any less than he normally does, in fact as he wasn't falling over ever 5 minutes you could say it was a good 80 minutes from him.

The fact people thought he was world class says it all.

He was, definitely.

And its more than pace and movement that he's lost. The mental deficiencies in his game have left so much more of a gap than mere loss of pace could do.

Even older strikers can adapt their game. Torres looks now like he never had a clue to begin with.

I disagree, never rated him at all.

It's not just a coincidence he had never won a trophy at club level before he came to us.

65 goals in 102 appearance says it all really. How you can deny that he was once world class is beyond me. You don't have to win trophies to be world class.

The term world class is thrown about far too easily.

Darren Bent scored 32 in 58 appearances a respectable goal tally considering he was playing for a much weaker team but no once claimed he was world class.
