I still remember the start of the season when we all had so much hope in him, right after those goals he'd scored against Newcastle and Arsenal. Some of us (me included) thought buying a midfielder or right winger in the summer should be a higher priority. How it's all changed...

speak for yourself, those early games did not fool me one bit. people just gloss over his terrible performances if he scores a goal. against newcastle he was utterly typical and average. fact is, stick a goat up top and eventually, and especially with the service of our midfielder, a striker will notch up some goals and assists. its why even though he is proven to a consistent dud he is still one of the lowest odds to score a goal wioth bookies

although you could easily argue we shouldve gotten rid sooner, the real point the club shouldve known for sure he had to be moved on, was when he had that run of games last January when drogba was at the ACON. he mustve had a string of 10 games or something and was still utterly useless. that was my personal point of no return with the guy

I doubt anyone really believed that he could get anywhere near his old Liverpool form, but at least enough to score a few goals here and there and share games with Sturridge. He got injured though and we had to keep using Torres. Not at one point did I believe he was good enough to be leading the line for a team of our ambitions, however.

Let's face it, he's hardly enjoying life at Chelsea. He will take a pay cut to leave.

I'm looking forward to what he says about Chelsea when he leaves. Probably some old rabble about how he didn't get the service or how he didn't feel loved.

Davey has already compiled an excellent list of excuses that people use to justify his poor performances.

^ Thanks for the compliment. I forgot one however. Teams come to park the bus. That's why Torres can't score. It's very difficult for centre-forwards playing for the top teams because they have to deal with packed defences. Far easier for centre-forwards if they play for teams near the bottom of the league.

Yes, this has really been used as an excuse.

Torres has already told us this has been the worst time of his career and that he feels like he doesn't even know what he's supposed to be doing (hint Nando: scoring goals).

For those wondering why the FSW lavishes praise on Torres despite his shoddy performances, what else would you expect?

The FSW has been hired, at least in part, to get the best out of Torres. If he admits Torres is playing poorly that hardly endears him to Roman, 1. because he's admitting he can do no better than his predecessors when it comes to Torres, and 2. because it's akin to admitting Roman made a right boo-boo in shelling out 50 million large.

The FSW has his eyes on the job full-time and he knows where his bread is buttered. It's all about hoodwinking Roman if possible and pandering to his ego. That's what it's about. Expect much more of the same. This is why you see Ba being inexplicably dropped. The FSW is desperate to get Torres firing because it vindicates Roman and gives him a chance of getting the job.

This season Torres played 19 times for RDM and scored 7 goals, one of which was in the Community Shield (therefore meaningless), one of which was in a 6-0 trouncing of Wolves in the COC (therefore meaningless), and one of which was a fluke against Shakhtar.

Not good enough for Roman so Torres Robbie gets sacked, after eventually losing patience and dropping him for one game.

Under the FSW Torres has played 22 games and scored 8 goals. In other words, the FSW is faring no better when it comes to this particular centre-forward. Initially there was a burst, with 7 goals in the first 9 games, including two in a 6-1 trouncing of Nordsjaelland (therefore meaningless), one penalty (against Sunderland), one goal (against Monterrey) which was not really his because it was going wide before being deflected, and one in a 5-1 trouncing of Leeds in the COC (therefore meaningless).

Are you seeing a trend? I hope so. This boy, despite being given every chance, despite his every need being catered for, just cannot produce when it matters, and yet he's still preferred to Ba. He only produces when it doesn't matter and when the opposition are sh*t, despite having world-class players around him.

In his last 13 games he has scored 1 goal .. against .. wait for it .. Brentford .. in what was yet another typically crap performance.

What's the betting he plays against them again on Sunday .. ?

Welcome to Chelsea, Demba. I hope you enjoy it.

Forget all the hype and bad press about nano, Torres, Fernandez or nobhead or whatever

Last night against Prague he was so bad, he Must be doing it deliberately, and I am not kidding, why?

1. He made the wrong runs at the wrong time, and good runs we're few but also at the wrong time

2. When close in to a chance, he fluffed it, or stumbled, of toe poked

3. When mata had it on a break, he ran towards him - Yes that's right, not off in a diagonal or into space, but ran into same stream mata was running

4. Petre lumps it up and he loses it, mostly starting goal side of the defender - completely in the wrong place

5. Everything was half paced or half hearted

Honestly he was dreadful

At the end, he ran straight off down the tunnel - did not even bother to acknowledge us fans at all - not good enuf

Personally, can't support him, won't boo him but won't cheer him either

Gutless effort

There was a great moment last night near the beginning when Hazard squared a ball in around the six-yard line for someone to poke in and Torres just stood and watched it sail past - had a good chuckle at that.

I simply cannot accept that Demba Ba will not start on Sunday. He simply has to after a 2 week rest. Anything else makes no sense at all.

If he doesnt then once and for all we have total confirmation that Chelsea is a a club in total dysfunction beyond any quick repair. Furthermore, i will be disillusioned to new levels.

Torres will not be starting on Sunday, I simply dont accept it will happen. It cant.

Thinking of sticking a tenner on d**khead getting a hat trick on Sunday. I've twitted Mata and asked him to help our Spanish sniper tie his bootlaces as this has to be his problem. Odds of 15/2 are bit stingy considering SFL is 16/1

I'll eat my football boots if Torres manages a brace let alone a hatrick.

I don't think it will happen either but only because the FSW has hardly any choice.

The Brentford game is sandwiched between the two Sparta games, and Ba is ineligible for the EL so one would assume the FSW won't make Torres play 3 games in one week and will also give Ba a well-deserved run-out. However it's by no means a sure thing because the FSW has an investment in getting Torres scoring and the Brentford game offers a good chance. However, the Sparta game at home should also be a good chance so I hope the FSW sees sense. The fact that Ba has played so little since arriving is scandalous IMO and if we're not careful we're going to play him out of form. You have to ask how Torres got the nod ahead of Ba for the 1st leg of the semi against Swansea, the Arsenal game at home, Brentford and Reading away. It makes absolutely no sense. Torres is still our front-line striker despite the fact Ba came in and immediately started doing the business. Incredible.

Now, what did Robbie do when faced with this scenario but with no other striker to call upon? He eventually played with no striker at all, against Juventus, and he was sacked. Even if Ba were injured, I would drop Torres and play without a recognised centre-forward also. Let's face it everyone can see how woeful Torres is. The truth is the FSW would never do it in a million years because he knows that's the message Roman doesn't want to hear, i.e. that Torres just doesn't deserve to be anywhere near this side. The FSW would be signing his own death warrant and he is far too cute to do that.

It's an awful feeling. Watching the FSW on the sidelines, knowing he's here for the rest of the season and possibly longer, and watching Torres on the field in a trance-like state, knowing he'll keep getting picked regardless. It really leaves a bad taste in the mouth and the end of the season can't come soon enough. Having these two charlatans at the club, who don't give a stuff about Chelsea, completely ruins it for me and the owner ought to take a good, hard look at himself because this is totally unacceptable.

Edit: What an absolute slap in the face for the fans ..

i think people downplay/forget how much that had to do with robbie getting sacked.

I think the writing was well on the wall before that sadly.

Ill always respect Robbie for refusing to pick Torres in that game despite the injury to Sturridge. He knew he was going and thus went out on his terms.

He, like all of us was sick of the Torres nonsense and wasn't going to play along any more.

I agree, I think Abramovich was always going to give him the boot at the first oppertunity after reluctantly giving him the position in the first place.

I don't think Robbie ncessarrily knew he was on his way out after the Juventus game, I think he just (quite rightly) did something that the FSW doesn't often do and picked what he considered to be our strongest 11 for our biggest game of the season to date, regardless of who that left on the bench.

Had it paid off and we had beaten Juventus he would have lived to see another day but it didn't and the excuse was there for Abramovich, the writing was on the wall though.

The fact of the matter is we would obviously not have done any better with Torres up front, it was a wothwhile gamble, so that just makes more of a mockery out of the sacking of Robbie.

Torres didn't do anything once again against Sparta Prague and I'll be very surprised that he'll be at the club beyond this season. We desperately need a top striker to accompany Ba and hopefully Lukaku if we decide to recall him from his loan at West Brom.

From next season we need to sell him and we need at least three top strikers. Right now we have only one, and he isn't playing half the time. I reckon the ideal strikers to have next season are:

Falcao or Cavani - (Our number 1 striker and both would be worth every cent. We only need to sign one, not both)

Ba - (He'll be our second striker and he's a proven attacker so I have faith in him as being our second striker)

Lukaku - (Recall him from West Brom. He's proven he can play at the top level now. I reckon he'll be very handy for any game as he provides us that x-factor that we seem to lack this season).

to echo this, people have saying having Torres on is like playing with 10 men, but it's worse than that now. He used to do nothing, now he is actively disrupting our team. I mean he actually tackled Marin on Thursday....  he tackled him.

I won't boo him either, won't cheer him either. Respect is earned, not just given.
