Who would you consider to be our biggest rival?

Featured Replies

Being only 20 years old, and a Chelsea fan for roughly 12 years (was too young to really have an interest before that), I'm sure my views on who our biggest rival or worst enemy are, would be completely different to those of you that have been around the club for decades.

For example I see a lot of people on here have a special distaste for Spurs, when in the last decade or so, there has been far less cause to dislike them as opposed to the likes of United, Arsenal and Liverpool. Then there are even older rivals like Leeds and Milwall who again, have not been prominent in our recent history.

Personally i see United as the team thats been our greatest rival in recent years, particularly post-Roman when it's really only been the two of us fighting it out for the title ever since Henry & co. left the gooners. Apart from that, I think i echo the sentiments of most Chelsea fans when i saw how frustrating its been to be cheated out of points against them, not only referring to Sunday, but whats been happening for as long as i can remember. My distaste for Arsenal has been mostly replaced by pity, although I still very much enjoy handing Liverpool a beating.

If any older fans could shed light on the reasons for our old rivalries it would be great, i'm always looking to learn more about the club and our history.

Ps. Sorry if theres been another recent topic on this subject, i'm only new around these forums.

My already strong loathing for Man U has increased tenfold due to their conduct during and after that game, so it would have to be them.

I don't care for Spurs or Arsenal, though that changes every time they play Man U.

I regard QPR as a joke and West Ham/Fulham as being more minor rivals.

I'm indifferent to Liverpool.

I consider refs like Clattenburg and Webb to be an essential part of Man U's side, helping to arrest the decline in their squad over the past few years almost singlehandedly. Whenever they get out of line, SAF makes sure they veer back into it.

I think everyone will have different opinions on this. As you say some of the older fans will have hate for Leeds, some younger fans will have hate for Liverpool and United. For me i hate West ham and Arsenal. Newer ones for me are QPR and Liverpool. United have never really bothered me much. I dont like Fergie at all though. Spurs have never bothered me either, we always beat them and its funny to laugh at them. Fulham i wouldnt consider a rival, im sure they see us as one of thiers but they are so small time they arent even on our radar.

Rivals as in competition rivals. Arsenal, Man United, Spurs

Rivals as in my pure hatred for the team. QPHAHAHAHA, Loserpool.

Not really much history with Man City, and I like some of the Man City players. Aguero, Hart, Kompany, Toure etc.

In terms of competition for honours, it's United and Citeh. As to teams I dislike and most enjoy beating, it's Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Club rivalry in the 70's had more to do with what happened on the terraces than on the pitch. This is why so many of us older fans have a strong hatred of certain teams that younger fans just don't understand - I've hated Tottenham, West Ham and Leeds for 45 years and nothing will change that.

Now the terraces are gone, sadly, and the club rivalry is mainly meant in footballing terms. Which means Man.Utd alone are our main rivals, as Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool have fallen behind. I've always had a soft spot for Man.City and had a lot of respect for their mob whenever we went to Maine Road, so I don't hate them at all.

Regarding rival fans these days, the most obnoxious are obviously Liverpool, Man.Utd, Tottenham, West Ham & QPR - I hate them all with a passion, and wish them all a prolonged and painful death in the near future - well, most of them, anyway - I suppose there might be some decent people amongst them, but you'd be hard pressed to find them.

I agree with all of these, but must also include any team Stephen Hunt happens to be playing for...

Teams I hate are;

Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur

Teams I dislike are;

Arsenal

QPR

Teams I don't mind/nothing towards;

Liverpool

Man City

West Ham

I am 18 years of age.

Hate Twattenham with a passion and I loathe Liverpool due to the fact the fans think they have some right to top 4 and success and just their sheer deludedness in general. Also, the fans screaming for a penalty whenever someone is tackled in the box and just Suarez makes it even worse.

Have a particular dislike to Man United due to the obvious assistance of referees which will never be investigated due to the Fergie Association having no balls, even though they seem intent on plastering anything they can on anything associated with our club.

Have a dislike towards QPR due to the scummy nature of their fans and the club in general, but they care more about us than we care about them.

I see Arsenal as a rival, but I respect them because of the way they go about things and keeping faith in the same man at the helm.

I will also leave a special mention to Barcelona; they can't really be rivals due to the fact that we don't play in the same domestic leagues, but due to the Ovrebo incident among other things I have developed a hatred for them.

I think there is a big difference between rivalry and hatred

Liverpool are a team I dislike (immensely), but they are not a rival, same with United. I don't have to put up with (proper) Liverpool or United fans like I would Arsenal, Spurs or West Ham. I could stomach watching Liverpool or United win the league as much as I hate them but I couldn't say the same for West Ham, Spurs or Arsenal. Could you imagine if the roles were reversed and Spurs came to the Bridge singing "Champions of Europe"? It would make my skin crawl.

I suppose it's where you grow up but for me it was always Spurs, West Ham and Arsenal. Although I hate Leeds, Millwall and Liverpool/United too
