This months Official Chelsea magazine

Featured Replies

Apologies for starting a new thread on what is a recurring theme but i wasnt sure about the appropriate thread to put this....

Anyway, im sure like a lot of you members and ST holders i got the Monthly Chelsea Magazine in the post today. Now, im not its biggest fan, normally i just find it to be a lot of glossy propaganda but there are a few interesting articles now and then (normally involving ex players or past matches) so i always give it a quick read through.

This time I was interested to flick through to see what they would say about Di Matteo. What sort of praise he would get for his achievements this year and what sort of public thanks the club would give him.

And you know what ? There isnt a thing. There is an interview with 'Rafa' (which i couldnt be less interested in) and the only place i saw it sort of mentioned was a sentence in the Seb Coe monthly column and even then it had the feel of a prison letter that had had been edited. Unbelievably his dismissal is not even mentioned in the Timeline for November.

I think this is absolutely disgusting and an insult to Robbie and all the fans who celebrated what he did for us. Sadly though i am not surprised. Not one iota.

The magazine has gone straight in the recycling pile, which i feel quite nicely sums up my feelings towards Chelsea Football Club at the moment.

Why recycle?? just Ridgewell it!!!

The magazine is gone poor for awhile now. I used to like the match features that included match atmosphere and best song they should bring it back. As for not mentioned robbie what do you expect lately our club has been a horrible disrespectful club that I don't trust anymore. Gourlay and buck ain't Chelsea there just yes men. Chelsea = no respect.

What a joke. Some acknowledgement of RDM's achievements would have been nice or have the board and the marketing gurus of this club forgotten what happened on May 19 2012?

Absolutely disgraceful

That really is shocking.

I know all clubs use mags such as this as good opportunity for a bit of propoganda with nothing bad to say but you can't help liken our current regime to something out of Animal Farm (and no, I don't mean the '70's porn version).

Unforgivable.

Even worse than the decision to cancel last week's Friday Night Live. Nothing in this world will convince me that this was for any reason other than the powers that be wanting to avoid the inevitable reaction to the mere presence of the interim manager, let alone his ineptitude and incredible lack of diplomacy.

When we hired Jose he was on the front (the first edition), pretty sure Scolari was too. Carlo, AVB & RDM definitely were (Carlo had his raises eyebrow...)... No surprise to see our legend of a goalkeeper on the front this month. A constant at the club for many years with no controversy to his name.

Do the club think we're stupid? I mean good God, it's an absolute joke. I usually read it cover to cover but for the first time ever I missed out a certain part. I care what Benitez has to say about as much as he cares about Chelsea FC.

EDIT: Grammar mistake, thanks Moi ;-)

All those who subscribe to this magazine should cancel their subscription.  And they should send this month's back to the club with SUB-STANDARD written in huge letters across the front of it.

This is Stalinist air-brushing of the most cynical type.  Do they think the fans are stupid????

As others have said, disgraceful. Also, Giles Smith's weekly column on the official website was omitted in the aftermath of Di Matteo's sacking. Not sure if he has since written one but he has previously had very few kind words to say about "Rafa".

Davey, I noticed and commented on that last Thursday when his column returned when I said;

"I noticed that last week, the day after Benitez's appointment, Giles Smith's Thursday Thoughts column on the club's official site was conspicuous by its absence. I wasn't surprised as despite his normally uber pro Chelsea stance, he can occasionally belie some non-party line thoughts hidden between the lines. So I was a little surprised to see him back today. And today he has managed to write his column making barely any reference to football, let alone 'recent managerial events'. Just some stuff about coffee, Dave Sexton, Paul Merson and the possible demise of the Europa League."

I also noticed this week that Pat Nevin is seemingly more 'under control' as his official site articles have come across as not entirely supportive but pretty understanding about the Rafa situation. This week his column has been used to plead for positive support at tonight’s game.

I don't really expect anything but biased propaganda from any club on its official site and other own media but, in this current situation it is acting a bit like one of those nutjobs who claim that the holocaust never happened. Insane denial!

^ Totally agree, Snedger. At least Smith had the good grace to speak about non-footballing related stuff. Nevin was a hero of mine and I won't say anything negative towards him as he clearly holds Chelsea dear to his heart. However, even if he hasn't been entirely supportive of the club, I am still pretty disapointed if what you say is true. The fans are right to voice their disapproval IMO, and besides, he shouldn't be telling them what to do, let alone being understanding regarding the managerial change.

There is nothing to understand Pat me ol mucker. Roman is bang out of order. I know you're on the payroll (he writes for the match programme) but either say it as it is or don't say anything at all. Right now the club publications seem more like a platform for Pravda.

I just quickly read through Pat's article on the site again as I'd hate to be unfair to him as he, along with Kerry and Speedo are the three players that say Chelsea FC to me more than any others, ever. And I do think that he is being careful to avoid upsetting either (one of) his paymasters or the fans. He is calling for positive support for the good of the players and you can't really blame him for that. But there isn't the sense of pissed off-ness that is present in Giles Smith's column - mainly through what he hasn't written rather than what he did write. Quite clever really.

The thing with Pat's article is that the cynic in me thinks that a hugely popular ex-player and a loyal fan is being used to try and influence the atmosphere by the clubs hierarchy. And I doubt it will work anyway. Still love Pat though!
