April 19, 201610 yr Why would Mourinho have any say in whether a buy back clause is inserted into a player sale? Isn't transfer negotiations, contracts and transfer fees negotiated conducted by Granovskaia? Nah she didn't know anything about it. She was at lunch during the half-hour meeting that Lukaku's sale was being negotiated. I find a lot of this a little convenient without knowing the exact details. Absolutely fees can be reduced if such clauses are inserted but what this suggests to me is that the club said Jose could spend a certain amount of money and he opted for a higher transfer fee rather than a buy-back option with a reduced fee. Now what realistically is a fee based on that clause being inserted? £20 million? Maybe a bit less? How little was the club prepared to actually spend that season (when we won the league) that such restrictions were in place? Jose couldn't even stop the sale of Cech despite his early protestations if I recall correctly, yet he can set the fee and the clauses of such players? I honestly don't know what to believe but I know it fits a certain narrative that's out there right now about Jose and it absolves the current board of any responsibility in those same people's eyes.

I think it's pretty clear Jose didn't want a buy back clause because he knew he'd be at United in a couple of years and he wants him there!

April 19, 201610 yr Jose Mourinho could cost Chelsea millions after advising against buy-back clause in Romelu Lukaku's Everton contract http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/04/19/jose-mourinho-advice-to-put-buy-back-clause-in-romelu-lukakus-ev/ It takes a special kind of twat to do something like that, but that's Jose Mourinho at his absolute best. I hope every pigeon he comes across tomorrow sh*ts all over him, because in effect, that's what he's repeatedly done to us.
April 19, 201610 yr Think about it, rumors are Lukaku is going to PSG or United.... Jose is going to PSG or United.... it must be true, all part of his plan. He must not have thpught KDB would be so good so quick either, he was probably a season off on that one. Why do you think he wasnt playing RLC much? To keep his price down, but Guus seems intent on ruining that plan This game is fun! Edited April 19, 201610 yr by TheChelseaBlues

April 20, 201610 yr I'm not buying the Jose's conspiracy theory either. It's just a matter of Jose didn't have time to deal with players who dissent against him, he's always and probably will be forever a short term manager. Looking at players he let go ( Mata, Lukaku, KDB, Schurlle), all of them could have done a job right now, but once they crossed Jose it's all over.
April 20, 201610 yr I think it is more of a case of not knowing how to develop young players because he has never stayed anywhere long enough to do it. Can remember an interview he did while he was here where he said it was up to the players to give the manager confidence, and he felt the right age for a player to play first team football was 21. It is very possible he was consulted on including buyback clauses in both Lukaku's and De Bruyne's sale contracts but he felt they wouldn't fit into his style of play now or in the long term. I do wonder if looking back at things he feels any different about he handled both players. He is a brilliant manager but I always felt he has a system and players have to fit in it. Ideally you tweak your ideologies to the tools at your disposal.
April 20, 201610 yr If anyone truly believes that buy back bollocks then they are anot idiot. Exactly, the manager wouldn't even have anything to do with that aspect of contracts etc. Of course the Jose haters like a few plebs that have already posted will believe it simply because they want to.

Or on the other hand Mourinho lovers won't believe it simply because they don't want to. We as fans have no idea how much control Mourinho had and whether or not the story is true. What we do know however is that Mourinho was truly woeful when it came to seeing talent and promoting youth.

Its pretty simple this, we have never included sell on or buy back clauses for any player sold in the Abramovich era as far as I can remember, there was a rumour the young Hazard has one but I don't think it was confirmed. So were they all the incumbent managers decision, did each manager get asked whether to include a sell on and said no to every single one of them? Its pretty obvious the sell on policy is to not include one, as that would then bring the price down.

That's exactly my point we don't know so people should stop acting like its a fact when one of these clickbait articles pops up. He was but that's in the past now isn't it? That really has no relevance in buy back clauses either.
April 20, 201610 yr Maybe he did advise against it, maybe not. Regardless, the responsibility should lie on whoever it was that finalised the decision and that wouldn't have been Jose. Edited April 20, 201610 yr by Remodez
April 22, 201610 yr Sounds like total bollocks. Jose did not even get the players he wanted from these guys, who is their right mind would believe that they would grant his wishes on an out going players clauses. Anyways, if this is true then good on Jose. Signing lukaku for so much money is stupid. If there is 60m+ available to spend on a striker then why not get Aubamayang or Griezmann.
