Lukaku to Everton

I don't think 28 million is going to look like great business in 5 years time. He may be a spoilt kid, but he's confident and ambitious. Reminds me a bit of Sturridge in that way and we know how much he'd be worth now.

It's not looking like great business already. Rapidly progressing this season and at this rate could become one of the best in the world in his position.

Huge mistake in selling him period. Just from a risk/reward standpoint he would have been worth keeping even if he didnt develop into a great forward.

He wanted to leave though so our hands were tied unless we were going to play him instead of Costa. I dont know if we win the title last season with Lukaku instead of Costa.

He'll leave Everton soon if they dont finish in a CL place. Everton have a window where they could hold on to Barkley, Stones and him if they can finish top 4.

He will go to a better team soon, then we will find out if he is capable of fighting/holding on to the starting spot. He was desperate to leave, if we didn't let him, he would just rot in the reserve

Often overlooked that he just wasnt good enough to start for us. Was he even good enough to take Drogbas minutes last season? He would have rotted on the bench playing Remys role if we hadnt sold him. He felt entitled to a place in the team and he wasnt good enough at the time. I dont think anyone thought he would never get there. Hes leaving Everton if their project doesnt produce CL football by the end of next season, Stones and Barkley most likely as well.

The Euros were coming and credit to them for realizing they need the most game time they can get. I dont think anyone would trade Costa's output last season for Lukaku's.

Great part for us is hes said he wants to play at a bigger club. Would you put it past him to force a transfer in a years time if he wants to move?

He also showed all that's wrong with him in the game. Good goal scorer but a bit like Sturridge in how he plays. He will never make the final intelligent pass to another player if he can score. This is what sets apart a Suarez or Messi or Neymar or Drogba or Benzema or Lewendowski or every other great forward in the recent past. They play for the team. And the team benefits. Lukaku doesn't. He gets his stats up but the team will eventually suffer. Glad we got rid of him like Sturridge.

^ He is 22 & will iron most of this issues out as he gains more experience, Drogba was no where at his level at that age. You can't argue that selling him wasn't short sighted, he will probably end up at UTD or City next season.

We shall see. He can iron out his technique but I do not see him changing his temperament. The club has made a lot of poor decisions about who to hire but we have generally let the right people go.

You could argue him being the greatest attacking talent of his age group. A club with ambition doesn't let someone like that go - being it for money doesn't make it any better considering the dross we're buying for that.

Lukaku will never be a player on a par with messi etc I think we all can agree on this. He has though started to show the immense potential he had as a sixteen year old. No matter how we dress it up, Jose for some reason couldn't convince him to stay and we as a club preferred Torres,Ba and Eto'o to coaching him at a crucial part of his career.

If this was 'The Apprentice' it could be said that the scouting staff originally did their jobs, the DoF did his in convincing him to sign for us. The club did their job in placing him in a good loan were he could flourish. Lukaku did his in proving his value in the premier league. The failure of this task lies then with the manager who didn't fancy him enough to convince him to stay. We got a good price for him at the time but long term did we?

He has gone now, we though as a club have to make sure that the next player who fulfills all his potential on loan is properly intergrated into the squad. Personally I'm hopeful that will be Solanke, I won't hold my breath though.
