A Journalists who actually "gets it"...

Featured Replies

WOW a journalist who is actually speaking the truth and for once is not anti-Chelsea....

"Chelsea have United running scared - that's why they want to convince Platini that Roman's on the road to ruining football"

Financial Fair Play is the biggest farce going. The biggest sham of it all is that the effects of it is going to be passed onto the fans and like one of the people posted in the article, it won't help clubs develop home grown talents because clubs will need to sell to one of the big boys in order to keep functioning. I have my resentments about Abramovich, but he has pumped so much into this club and is not in it for personal financial gain, whilst the Glazers and the Arsenal board are only in it to fill their own pockets.

This doesn't add up at all. If these new regulations were all a plot to screw us over then why did Chelsea vote "yes" on them.

Let's remember that had we voted "no" in the original vote then these regulations would have been blocked.

It's a shame that it's been written by Samuel, who is nearly as bad as Ashton. Awful journo.

Not true at all.

Samuel - unlike most of the frauds that call themselves journalists nowadays - was a football fan before he became a journalist. Proper working class and old school who gets the traditions and values of the game.

If every journalists was like Samuel, people would have far more respect for the media in general.

disagree completely, Always offers a fair and neutral point of view.

His far from pro chelsea, and his far from anti chelsea, he has gripes with this club like many of our own fans do and rightfully so we're not perfect. He also doesn't go around blowing smoke up the arses of barcelona and real madrid etc. Not to say he doesn't praise them but he doesn't over indulge.

Top Journalist in my opinion.

Must say thought it was a good article when I read it, it does seem quite clear though that UEFA have no idea what they are doing with FFP or where it is going. The president of an organisation implementing such a fundamental change to its practices and rules should know every aspect of them and their expected repercussions, Platini seems to have no idea on either. A good point by Samuels glossed over by Platini is why are all of the big clubs in Europe suddenly for it? That should be ringing alarm bells all over the place.

There seems to be a lot of friction between UEFA & FIFA regarding referees, goal line technology and so forth.

Also trying to understand what he is saying regarding World Cups does that mean the next European one should be in England, leading on from Russia getting the next one. From an unbiased view I cannot see how England has been overlooked for so long in hosting World Cups excellent stadiums, good infrastructure lots of hotel rooms wtf more do you need?

My biggest problem with Financial Fair Play is it's a completely cynical protectionist measure dressed up as being about fairness. It's actually about protecting the establishment clubs like Man U, Bayern and Real from competition from the new money of Chelsea, City and PSG. If you're fortunate enough to already be part of the establishment with a big brand and stadium, access to CL money and lots of revenue then lucky you. But if you aren't part of the elite then FFP closes off the only realistic way of catching up with those clubs (ie big investment).

There are actually lots of measures UEFA could introduce that would make football fairer, like dispersing the CL prize money more evenly or forcing every league to divide their TV revenue equally. They could even return to sharing gate receipts 50-50. But as Man U, Bayern, Real and co aren't really interested in fairness, just their own self-interest, they won't.

Can someone actually quote what specifically Martin Samuel said?

I skimmed the article but it seems to be everyone else's points of view, its not really an article from what I can see - more like a list of topics and random comments.

The linked article is him responding to points raised in the comments section of his actual article which can be found here:
