Champions League 13/14

Featured Replies

Haven't noticed a CL thread for this season.

Shall we stick it all in here?

It's getting tougher and tougher IMO.

Bayern, Madrid and Barca all have fantastic teams, with amazing firepower. There is so much quality in their teams it's frightening.

Then there's PSG, who really ought to be contenders, when you consider their firepower.

There's four right there, plus the four English teams, plus, at a push, Milan, Juve, Napoli and Dortmund.

What of the four English teams?

Arsenal have the hardest group but look like they might be a strong attacking force. Utd? Well, they have strikers, which always helps, and City have to be contenders with the squad they have. Pellegrini has made the semis twice before.

Chelsea? Going to be very tough this season but of course we have a chance. Our manager knows the ropes, unlike Moyes for example. Much may depend on Eto'o. We have the attacking midfielders but are we strong enough elsewhere?

Some very strong teams by the looks of it.

6 goals for Madrid, 4 for United and PSG and 3 for City and Munich.

Comprehensive victories for all those teams, the gulf in quality is huge for much of the group stage and with few exceptions the group stage is nothing more than a formality.

We need to stamp our authority on our group tonight and I think we should be looking to score three or more goals as a signal of intent.

Right, can anyone answer how Utd`s fist goal last night was allowed, what with Valencia being only ever so slightly offside and sort of interfering with the keeper.

I think it was easier to let the goal stand than to award a free kick for obstruction.

Valencia was pretty sly with his movement to stand on top of the goalkeeper once Rooney struck his shot.

yes................it was played at Old Trafford, ref entertained (briefed really) along with the guys beside the goalposts (can't call them assistants, as assistants by the their nature assist, these guys just hold sticks and stoop at times when the ball comes into the area)  by old bacon chops pre match and given a good send off and his phone number and assurances that they can use his name in any future books they wish to write.....................................simples

I thought it was a dreadful decision, there simply is no way Valencia was not interfering with play. I also cant believe so little is being made of it.

I guess it's on the linesman who missed the offside (failure 1) then it switches to the ref to spot the obstruction (failure 2).

Home advantage and you get the rub of the green.

Anyone got any comments from Hypia whether he was disgruntled about the goal?

its utd, ITV, Sky etc .......the love in starts here and will continue til they are put out.............Fact that Rooney didn't go to us and also got a brace can cover all this up

however, you know if that was Chelsea, you can F N guarantee it would be all over the papers and repeated copiously at the start of each programme and after each ad break and questions put to Jóse 5 different ways......and also the players involved....

yes its disgraceful, bloody disgraceful, and also the fact of Halsey's revelations are been swept under the carpet too, the Utd PR machine is in full flow to stem all this..........."if you report it we'll refuse to let Moyes or our players do interviews"....isn't that the way Fergie operated before? this seems to be the case again

And also the other ref that does absolutely nothing all game.

Platini has said UEFA's hands are tied because FIFA won't allow the behind the goal officials to be more involved in the officiating of the match.

My opinion is, if there not contributing when key incidents happen that they are well positioned for, then just get rid of them because it causes more outrage that they don't do anything.

Can see Arsenal scraping through their group with the addition of Ozil.

He was very good against Sunderland.

They looked good and Ozil will get better but it was Sunderland, Bottom of the division and lost to their second team in their last training match

Lets hope it was the opposition making them look better than they are.

Would be very surprised if we made it to the semi's this season, i'm not too bothered about the CL right now so long as we get out of the group stage.

Arsenal or Napoli tonight guys?

Who do you want to win?

Rafa and Wenger have been having a love-in in the pre-match chit-chat.

Whoever loses, I'll be happy, put it that way.

Wenger the best manager in the league according to Rafa.

Quality manager, but he's no Mourinho ;).

Anyways, I quite like Napoli's team but it's managed by someone I don't like, whilst with Arsenal I think Wenger's a good guy who runs the club well, but I don't like the club itself (if that makes sense!)

There's entertainment in both managers losing though, so like you, I'll be happy with whoever loses :)

I've got to hope that Napoli beat the Gooners. The CL is so important to Wenger that any setback will be welcome. Wenger and Gooner fans are already getting smug.

Rafa's dig at Jose. Can't wait till we meet Napoli in the next round and smash them.
