July 20, 201411 yr Is this just a rumour as of now? Or are there legitimate sources that it's a real possibility?
July 21, 201411 yr Salah is a very useful player to bring on late in the games. He might not be the best against packed defences but his pure pace and directness makes him a nightmare for tired defenders.
July 21, 201411 yr Not sure Salah will cut the mustard here to be honest. The complete opposite will happen imo.
July 21, 201411 yr Little Mo mo is only 21. He still has time to learn and improve. However I do think if he doesnt show Jose a decent reason to keep him, i think he will be sold next summer.
July 21, 201411 yr I know he is young, fast and can dribble. I just think his size and first touch will go against him in the long run ,its only pre-season but i was so underwhelmed by him against Wimbledon.
July 21, 201411 yr Great news that he doesn't have to do military service! Not just for us but for Mo on a personal note.
July 22, 201411 yr Call me cynical but I'd imagine it was a massive cheque that's caused him to avoid the Military service. Edited July 22, 201411 yr by Luca Vialli

July 22, 201411 yr we already have schurrle for that who's better than salah Schurrle should start, he's too good to only be an impact player and he's best performances last season (Stoke away, Fulham away, Arsenal home) all came from starting. Salah's a decent player but if any of our attacking midfielders are going to be impact subs this year it's going to be him, when teams are (hopefully) chasing the game in the later stages of the match Salah's pace will open team right up on the counter.

I don't see Salah playing a huge amount this season. Willian and Schurrle and, to a lesser extent, Oscar will be rotated. Ramires will also feature less. I think nine of the starting eleven are nailed down. The other two spots will be rotated.

I think nine of the starting eleven are nailed down. The other two spots will be rotated. Sounds about right to me. At the moment this is what I would go with Courtois Azpilicueta - Cahill - Terry - Luis Matic Fabregas - Oscar Schurrle - Costa - Hazard I think we'll be a lot closer to 4-3-3 of Jose's first spell with Oscar the most advance of the midfield three. As you say about 9 of the players pick themselves at the moment and it's nice knowing we have close to a best XI now. I think it's up to Schurrle, Willian and Oscar to show that they're worthy of a starting place but everyone else just needs to perform to a level that keeps them in the starting XI.
July 22, 201411 yr and directness makes him a nightmare for tired defenders. edit: not sure why the quote is still there^ @ForeverCarefree. Slightly off topic but I'll mention it anyways. I don't think Schurrle or Willian are good enough to start really which is why I think we need another right winger. Because RM are getting James and Kroos, then I think it may, MAY just allow Di Maria to be available, since they want they're basically kids and get bored of their toys quickly. Salah just looks like an inferior version of Schurrle to me. Schurrle is a system player and really relies of space exploitation for his game so in that regards he's limited.* Difference is he's an extremely composed finisher and one of the best I've seen at this club. Technical ability seems better all round too tbf. I would much rather have someone like Willian come on as impact sub since I see him as a better footballer than Salah. Very fast in his own right too. Salah has not really looked a great footballer to me whereas I have liked a lot from what I've seen from Willian -- even from his time at his previous club. I didn't even think Salah was good against us when he was with Basel; we just made it easier. *so if he doesn't have space to run at people he's going to lay the ball off backwards (making the attack lose momentum) and find some space as he doesn't have that ability to create a chance when he's being tightly marked. However players like Di Maria, Hazard, Aguero, Griezmann, Suarez etc. can literally make a chance out of nothing, even when they're tightly marked for a lot of the game. That's why I think we need someone else there, and that's why even though out of the options we have now he should start, he should be an impact sub with someone else coming in. I don't see a role of Salah otherwise. Edited July 22, 201411 yr by MANoWAR
July 22, 201411 yr But who in the league do you think has a better squad than us? Manchester City? Would a theoretical signing of Di Maria really change our team that much? The main question mark for me is does Costa solve the goal scoring problem, we create more than enough chances but aren't clinical enough in front of goal. If Costa can replicate his goal scoring form from last season then I see no reason why we can't win the league.
July 22, 201411 yr Why worry bout what madrid are doing? We probably won't even play them! I think schurrle and willian will both have productive seasons. I'm not sure about salah or oscar, I think oscar is as good as rodriguez on his day, but he needs to be consistent.
July 22, 201411 yr Just add that if oscar fails to impress this year, I hope we can get isco on the cheap next summer.
July 28, 201411 yr Salah is the new Kalou. Fast but no shooting ability. I don't think you can easily teach composure in front of goal. You either have it or not.
July 28, 201411 yr Not really grabbing the chance to impress and show he should be a starter whilst all the rest of our first team attacking midfielders are away is he?
July 28, 201411 yr I think it's because he was fasting. He didn't look sharp at all like Matic and Ivanovic who also had no WC games to play. Edited July 28, 201411 yr by cfc88
July 28, 201411 yr I think it's because he was fasting. He didn't look sharp at all like Matic and Ivanovic who had no WC games to play. Nope, not buying into that. I'm fairly sure the whole fasting argument has been gone over before and it's proven not to have any significant health affects and certainly shouldn't ruin a players form. I just don't think he's that good, all pace not much end product. He'll get a fair few minutes off the bench but I don't expect him to even get close to displacing any of our other attacking players in the starting line up.
July 28, 201411 yr Oh okay. Well if it's been proven and stuff then I stand corrected. I didn't know how these religion fasting affects someone, especially an athlete. I just assumed it would. He did seem like a rash signing in January, but I think he can improve. If he doesn't show anything then Mourinho will get rid. However, if we can get someone like Di Maria to take up the right wing slot this season, I wouldn't complain. Edited July 28, 201411 yr by cfc88
July 28, 201411 yr I have had work colleagues fasting and I would bet my bottom dollar it has an affect on a professional sportsmen. There is no way the human body would be fully fit and energy levels at normal through a period of fasting.
