Truth that football takes all comers. Jonathon Wilson et al aren't for everyone, but I personally like to understand the thinking behind things, so it works for me.

 

I will admit that some of these bloggers (Michael Cox notably) seem to ignore the vast majority of what happens in order to focus on a minor tactical detail and then form a grand hypothesis about how that changed the game. I think the stats guys are perhaps a bit more legitimate but then that's just my view.

Chelsea midfielder Mohamed Salah could find himself forced to return to Egypt to serve military duty due to a decision made by the Minister of Higher Education in Egypt to rescind his registration for an education program.

The 22-year-old, who joined one of Egypt’s education institutes in order to obtain the ability to travel abroad, was dealt a blow today after his registration was cancelled by the Minister of Higher Education, possibly forcing him to return to his homeland to serve mandatory military service.

This decision could prevent Salah from travelling outside Egypt if he was to return, something that could threaten his future with the Blues.

Egyptian footballing legend and the current National Team director Ahmed Hassan commented on the situation regarding Salah, stating that he has been in contact with the Chelsea winger via phone.

“Salah has expressed his shock about the decision. He told me that he is trying to represent Egypt in the best way possible. Is this the best response from the country?”

It has been mentioned that a meeting will be held between the Egyptian national team coaching staff headed by Shawky Gharib together with members of the Egyptian Football Association and the Minister of Higher Education to find a solution to this dilemma.

My grandad would say wouldn't hurt all young footballers to do a year of military service.

I think I am getting more like him every day. I think the current England squad should do their bit :) make them more grounded wouldn't it

Maybe he has a preferred number that wasn't available when he joined. I saw it on Instagram & he has 22 after his name... Did anyone have 22? I recall Turnball the season before but other than that...?

He just put on Instagram 'last game with number 15' so yes he is changing numbers. I did wonder if he was going to get thye number 8 shirt maybe? Number 3 also still available but I heard that we were going to give that to Zouma and it's not a typically attacking number.

Presumably he thought he would never be able to live up to the legacy of Malouda. Don't blame him - at least he didn't deal with it by taking the quitter's way out like de Bruyne did.

 

Also, in being completely useless for 75 minutes yet scoring right at the end Salah has basically confirmed himself as the new Kalou. In light of that I vote he takes the #21 and Matic can have the #8 (would have given him Essien's #5 but I heard Luis wants it?).

Yeah Luis has been confirmed to have number 5. Matic a great shout for the new number 8, don't know why but that never crossed my mind.

Part of me thinks the same thing with the American players, but after the disaster of the draft, and the fact that the armed forces are scaling down (especially the Army, which is part of the reason I got the boot), I'd have to pass.

Egypt are actually backing Israel right now so i don't think that would be it, if anything they are more worried about other borders
