Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Oh, the camera didn't show their feet so all I saw was the guy walking up next to him and then getting shoved over, either way we don't need Costa picking up silly reds because i'm sure that sort of thing is a regular occurrence in the PL.

I dont think he wpuld targeted as much over here though, he has built a nasty reputation in spain, but this year he has calmed a little. As long as keeps the same sort of attitude if comes then I dont think he will get too much 'treatment'.

Something I like about his play is that he seems to spread out his goals a lot. Some strikers seem to score a couple in a game, and then not be in the score sheet the next. I'd gladly take someone scoring once every game over someone who scores twice every other, especially with the defence we currently have.

Would be over the moon if this transfer went through, I do rate him slightly above Cavani.

I had a look at the scoring percentages of Ronaldo, Messi and Costa this year.  Costa is around 25% with 26 goals in 101 attempts.  Ronaldo is around 14% with 28 goals in 197 attempts and Messi is around 19% with 25 goals in 134 attempts.

They all play in the same league and against the same opponents.  Not that I think Costa is better than the other two but I do like the success rate Costa has achieved.  They all have around half of their shots on goal.

It's interesting you bring that up because yes, he does have a nasty streak in him.

Unfortunately, I think that's what our team needs. A ruthless motherf**ker who will terrorize defenders and smash the sh*t out of the many parked buses we come up against. His antics will attract some attention but hopefully we can iron them out.

well as a liverpool fan i agree, i think the same part of suarez that makes him a dick is the same part that makes him a brilliant player, think costa and suarez just need to focus the energy a bit more, which suarez has done this year slightly although he still has a fair way to go. Hopefully costa can get that focus cause i think he'd be a fantastic fit for the premier league, im already looking forward to next season.

His ultra competitiveness is perhaps a factor in his brilliance, but I think he'd still be a great player without it. There have been plenty of world class players without that streak in them, in fact the majority of the all time greats haven't been c**ts (aside from the likes of Maradona).

i guess, but that 'win at all costs' mentality certainly gives players a kind of tenaciousness that they may not have had without it

Why do people even care about his attitude? Ibra and Suarez, the two best strikers in the world, are just as much nutcases as Costa is, but I'd gladly take any of those guys on Chelsea. Maradona is one of the greatest players of all time, and he definitely wasn't the nicest of guys. People who don't want Costa here because of that are just as crazy as him.

His form, Jose Mourinho’s desperate pleas for a new striker, and the fact his agent, Jorge Mendes, also happens to represent the player, look likely to combine to ensure he ends up at Stamford Bridge. Costa is an excellent striker – probably the player of the season in Spain – but a club of Chelsea’s resources could have their pick of any player willing to move. So what exactly is it that makes him so perfect for the Blues? Well, several things…

With the way he’s playing these days, it’s easy to forget Diego Costa is a late bloomer. In truth, the striker only has one and a half, maybe two exceptional seasons under his belt, and in a way that’s not surprising considering that prior to the age of 16 he had yet to play for his first club Real Valladolid. As a consequence it took time for things to 'click' for Costa (injuries didn’t help), yet another consequence is that he retains a natural appetite and hunger for the game which, in most players, often seems to be all but gone by the time they reach their mid 20s after as much as a decade and a half in football academies.

That’s the beauty of Costa’s game: it looks natural and not overly coached. His dribbling style is unconventional yet he almost always comes away with the ball, shielding it deceptively well. His movement isn’t typical of most centre forwards and as a result, is a nightmare for defenders. A trademark is to pull wide in the final third, dragging opponents out of position, before moving diagonally back towards the area at pace. The link up skills he perfected behind Radamel Falcao last season, meanwhile, have proven particularly useful now that he is leading the line. It isn’t uncommon to see him produce a flash of brilliance on the edge of the area and tee up a team-mate in a way that most playmakers would be proud of.

Above all, he’s relentless. The idea of the warrior footballer is something of a cliché but if there’s a better description of Costa I’ve yet to find it. In the past his over-eagerness proved to be a hindrance as well as an asset, resulting in disciplinary lapses and frequent red cards, an issue he personally attributes to a lack of coaching at youth level. Over the last year or so he has virtually eliminated those problems, however, looking likely to end the season without a single sending off while also picking up no red cards in 41 appearances and counting, compared to six in his first 130 games in Spain (one every 20 games or so). Having learned to control his anger on the pitch and use it constructively, he has converted what used to be a potential weakness into a strength, making him more dangerous still.

Chelsea undoubtedly covet goals, of which Costa has scored plenty this season. He is looking likely to finish around or even above one of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo in the Spanish goals charts, but he isn’t the only prolific goalscorer in Europe, so there has to be more to the Blues' pursuit, and it’s the specifics detailed above that make him stand out. There is no such thing as a ready-made signing in football, but Diego Simeone’s Atletico clearly share traits with the kind of teams Jose Mourinho tends to coach, and as a result, Costa looks well placed to slot into the Chelsea set-up with minimal fuss. A striker prepared to defend on the edge of his own area, yet still capable of covering the distance to the opposition box at breakneck speed and finishing accurately. In a way it sounds like something Jose Mourinho would conjure up in a dream.

First principles... Diego Costa has a reputation in La Liga for being an utter c**t.

Second principles... We should not f**king care. We've never replaced Drogba and we need a ruthless motherf**ker to beat the lesser teams into submission. The media and pundits largely hate us as it is so we're honestly not doing ourselves a disservice by signing him.

We should break the bank for Costa, He is a proper c**t and a national traitor as well and Cavani is simply better.

Do you have split personality or something?
