Diego Costa to Chelsea

Jose Mourinho is confident Chelsea have tied up a stunning £50million deal for Diego Costa.

Atletico Madrid striker Costa is poised to agree a contract worth £185,000-a-week to move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone has even admitted they cannot stand in the 25-year-old’s way – and confirmed that Mourinho's Blues are in for his star forward.

Simeone said of Costa: “It will depend on him and what he thinks is best for his future. I will support any decision he makes.

“It’s natural that Chelsea are interested in him and that makes me happy, because my aim and that of my coaching staff is to see our players improve.

“We understand that Chelsea have huge financial power and if he wants to live off football for the rest of his life, I will have no problem in him going.

“It was like Radamel Falcao - how could I tell him not to go to Monaco [last summer]? He gave life to this club [during his time at Atletico].”

Simeone's words do throw up another amazing sub-plot for Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final against Atletico, which begins next Tuesday.

Costa is set to play despite being left with a gaping wound in his leg after colliding with a goalpost in Sunday’s league win over Getafe.

Flesh wound! Costa's grisly injury won't stop him facing Chelsea

Chelsea have already held lengthy discussions with Atletico over on-loan Blues keeper Thibaut Courtois, who will face his parent club in the semi after UEFA’s intervention last week.

Belgium keeper Courtois originally had a £5m clause in his loan deal which Atletico would have to pay if they wanted to play him against Chelsea, but the clubs are now believed to have come to an arrangement.

The stunning Costa deal has been brokered by agent Jorge Mendes, and Atletico will have to pay a big chunk of the £50m fee to a third-party company.

Chelsea want Courtois back for next season after three years on loan at Atletico - Mourinho wants him to compete with Petr Cech to be first choice as Chelsea plan a major shake-up.

The west Londoners will also offload their current strike-force.

Italy's Inter Milan are keen on Fernando Torres, although Simeone has also admitted that Atletico could be interested in taking back the 30-year-old - who began his career with them before joining Liverpool in 2007 - as part of the Costa deal.

“Fernando is always with us [in spirit], obviously I have sent messages to him,” said the ex-Argentina midfielder. “He is very happy with everything that is happening to this team and he is always present, wishing us luck.

“Of course he would love to come back to the club he grew up in and where he was happy.”

As well as moving Torres on, Chelsea will sell Demba Ba, Romelu Lukaku is heading for the exit after spending the past two seasons on loan at West Brom and Everton respectively and Samuel Eto’o wants out when his contract expires in the summer.

Chelsea also maintain interest in Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain and Paris Saint-Germain pair Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

I really cannot see the logic in having Torres along for so long to not give Lukaku a run in the team. Would be a real shame to let him go, only going to get better!

Good news if it's true. Torres to Atletico. Let him find some sort of happiness. I know I've been hating on the guy, but I do want the man to be happy at the end of the day.

(BTW, not trying to be funny, and seeing as it's not the first time people are knocking him for his looks, Diego Costa just looks like a bigger, rougher looking version of Oscar.)

A mix of Oscar and Eduardo (ex Arsenal player)

It's interesting you bring that up because yes, he does have a nasty streak in him.

Unfortunately, I think that's what our team needs. A ruthless motherf**ker who will terrorize defenders and smash the sh*t out of the many parked buses we come up against. His antics will attract some attention but hopefully we can iron them out.

I watched the Getafe game, and he shoved a defender over for absolutely no reason (while the ball was out of play) and got booked for it.

the getafe player stood on his foot on the sly, it had been going on all game. Because of his reputation center halves in spain are trying to get him sent off, not excusing it, but I can't see that being as big of an issue over here.

Starting to warm to the idea now, however I will be disappointed if we the transfer is over 35m or if we sell lukaku.

That would probably end up like Ba. I don't think he is good enough

Joint 6th highest goalscorer in the league playing for a woeful Newcastle side.

You could do a lot worse for a striking option.

Think we said the same about Ba at the time too....

I think we will need two very good strikers with the thrid being an Eto'o type if not the man himself.

Not sure Remy would be that player but then who knows.

He wouldn't need to start that carry on if he joins us because he'll be hounded out of the country. The Suarez stick will be nothing in comparison

If he moves away from Atletico his main motivation is money. They are heading for domestic title and are in the final 4 in the CL. Not a bad club really...

I think it might be that Atletico need the funds as much as anything.

Apparently they have bad financial problems and the easiest way to alleviate that is to sell off your best asset(s). Costa is one of their most valuable players so they might reluctantly let him go.

That's not to say money wouldn't be a motivating factor for Costa but let's face it there aren't many players who move for love of the game or team.

You are probably right. And if money is the right kind of motivator for him who cares. If he scores for fun I don't care if his motivator is Vladimir Putin's motivational speeches...

Costa is a cheater... he dives, argues, spits and pushed players alot.

Lets just hope if he does that he'll play like Luis Suarez does haha.

He does need to sort out his antics however.

Our hero Drogba was a diver and play actor yer was adored so let's not go overboard here.

If he puts the ball in the back of the net as much as he is doing just now for us then we won't be discussing his behaviour.

Oh, the camera didn't show their feet so all I saw was the guy walking up next to him and then getting shoved over, either way we don't need Costa picking up silly reds because i'm sure that sort of thing is a regular occurrence in the PL.

Drogba was good at picking up silly reds.

To be fair to Costa, if he puts the ball in the net regularly I'm not going to complain too much if he's abit rogue, so long as its not too bad.
