Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Costa was supposed to be the answer to our Torres woes, but his situation is beginning to sound worryingly famiilar. Blighted by a recurring injury, rushed back to fitness when he wasn't ready, then went to a World Cup over the summer when not particularly fit. Looks slow and off the pace.

Not again, please God not again.

I will place a wager on that with you Peter. If we do sign Costa, I bet you he won't score more than 15 goals all season.

(Although 15 would still be an improvement on Torres).

I would gladly take this bet. Loser donates a tenner to the forum?

I watched both Spain games, and was honestly...not really impressed with Costa. No one at the pub was either, he looked really slow to react, slow to move. I bet some of it is due to the long season and injury, that I understand. Still though, did not look crisp, or decisive at all.

The up side is that he's only 25.

As most of us indicated here, Costa should not be judged by those two games. His play with Spain was not supported, the whole Spanish team was lethargic, no energy left...

If I may, Costa is playing in many games. Out of the PL 38 games, I predict close to 30 as a starter, then the close to games, plus around 8 or so in the FA cup, the odd game of Carling..

Since he popped 36 last season, I feel he is capable to come close to his total. Of course, if Mandzukic comes, Costa will not play as much. Certainly, he must score more than 15 goals as indicated above.

Costa will be playing in a totally different league. Spanish sides don't set up to defend like we do here in England, there is no way he will get 30 goals next season. If he was capable of scoring goals like Messi, Suarez and Van Persie then maybe, but he isn't so i can't see it.

Plus i expect a few suspensions to come his way so that won't help.

Obviously i would like nothing more then to be proven wrong.

Scott,

I am aware of the difference between the PL & Le Liga. Costa is capable to score goals against anybody. However, he needs to be supported by the other players. If Jose is not prepared to support him, then I like to ask why buy him? Are Suarez, van P. supported in their respective teams? Well, I feel they are. I just don't want to accept the fact that Jose will spend 32m for someone who doesn't fit in or is questionable to play in the PL. ?.

Mind you we don't create as much as chances to our strikers like Atletico plus our team is not built around one player. And Costa needs service to score otherwise he isn't much of a threat like other strikers Suarez, Aguero, Higuain etc.

And if you judge carefully almost 90 percent of his goals are feeded and are from counters. But in EPL unlike La Liga almost all small teams park bus so I think he wouldn't be that productive!

32millions is just f**king too much for the striker with such limited ability.

Atletico are not a chance-creating machine.

Costa takes the few chances he gets with alarming regularity.

Atleticos system is similar to the way we set up. I can see Costa being a hit with us, his style is built for the Premier League
