Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

I really don't remember him going to much in tithe clashes against the bigger sides. Not enough tines anyway. Cantona and Drogba were better big game/cup final winners.

Totally agree, henry was the ultimate flat track bully!!! scored the odd wonder goal, but  on a regular basis on the biggest stage a rabbit caught in headlights. Remember having these conversations when henry was playing and always use to laugh texting gooners when he failed again on the biggest stage.

Definitely not that he wasn't a great player he just wasn't a great big game player

Henry was a regular match winner against the big sides and in Europe (also regarded as one of the premierships best ever strikers) as was RVN....

Never scored in an important final (any final?) though...

Yep exactly my point and as I said not that he wasn't a great player he was, he was just a different type of great striker to the Cantona and Drogba. They weren't consistent 20-30 goal a season strikers but they won the big matches where Henry, Shearer and Van Nistelrooy were more your regular goal scorers.

Once though?

Which other important finals did he play in, if you don't count the 9 minutes in the CL final? I'm not a big fan oft the guy, but it's for different reasons, I don't think it's fair to say he doesn't turn up in finals, when he has scored in the only one he's really been involved in. As for the big games, he did score one for Real in the league last season, one against us and did well against Milan, where he also scored at least one (can't remember and am too lazy to look). No outstanding record but nothing to be worried about imo. It was the "small" games we struggled in last season anyway. I think a consistent goalscorer is more important for us, than a big match winner at the moment. And I hope Costa can be this guy for us, although I have my doubts.

Pretty sure he's talking about Henry

Henry scored some big goals in arsenals champions league run to final. Also scored in a few title decider's aswell, including that spectacular lob over barthez. Shearer hardly played any cup finals so it's hard to criticise him, and van nistelrooy did produce against arsenal on several occasions.

I agree you don't have to produce on the big occasions every time to be a top player, however the best usually step up fairly regularly.

I've got fairly low expectations for costa, and if he scores 15-20 goals and we win the league, il be more than happy with him.

Still exciting times signing a 32m brazilian striker.

With Jose taking a verbal stand against simulation lately, it will be interesting to see how he handles Costa when he dives game in and game out. I'm worried about it.

I hope he starts the season fit though. We're gonna need his goals.

Remember Diego Millito? He wasn't one of the biggest names in football or considered one of the best strikers in the world but Mourinho bought him to Inter and he played a huge part in them winning the treble. I'm hoping Costa will have a similar impact

Costa is the perfect striker for the way we play

Really? Judging by the goals he was scoring the type of balls he likes played to him are the same ones torres was moaning that he never recieves.

Hang on has me talking about Henry not scoring in Finals gotten mixed up with Costa?

I also think people have taken what I've said the wrong way, I was basically saying those consistent 20-30 goal a season strikers who don't tend to score in the finals/big games are just as important as those that do score in those games but aren't consistent every season.

That spectacular lob was not a title decider that game came early in a season in which Man U ran away with the title, they later put 6 past Arsenal at OT that season.
