Has anyone else been thinking about this (since the Luiz free kick against Columbia) . With Mata, Luiz and SuperFrank gone who will be taking corners and free kicks this season. Have not seen Costa take free kicks either.

 

I suppose Hazard could take corners. He is not a threat with his head and haven't seen him volley many either. Although, I would much rather see someone else used for left side in-swingers.

 

But we do not have much in terms of direct and indirect free kicks.

 

Also, who would out pen takers be, again with Frank, Luiz and Cole gone. Costa can take pens and so can Hazard and maybe Schurrle so we have 2-3 good takers left now in case of a shootout. Dont think we can get close to having a shootout lineup being as good as we had in Munich.

Hazard will take the majority I would think, penalties without question anyway.

Corners are a huge issue IMO.

Oscar takes a great free kick but corners we are poor.

How are Cesc and Luis at corners?

 

Pens will be Hazard when he is playing no doubt, followed by Costa.

Yes, In the games it will be either him or Costa (alternating depending upon who won it maybe). I hope Hazard could take all 5 in a shoot-out.

Agreed. Although I'd like to see Costa share the penalty duties. And certainly take any early season ones.

Fabregas does alright

Think fabregas will be on every corner and most free kicks.

I wouldn't say no to Costa taking the penalties personally, would be good to have our striker banging in as many as possible but I doubt Hazard will relinquish the responsibility. 

 

Corners were awful last season with pretty much everyone who was taking them just hitting the first man all the time so whoever takes them needs to improve the quality of the delivery.

Costa missed 2/3 last season. Rather hazard stick the pens in, rather than trying to bloat our centre forwards stats.

Doesn't matter who scores as long as we win, and hazard is more likely to score.

Hazard hasn't missed any that I can remember so he should continue taking them.

I always get nervous when Hazard takes them. I loved the way Luiz took a pen.

If so then sure everyone does but he has a great record at taking them and did so at his last club too. Pretty sure Costa has missed a few too has he not?

In any case Hazard will be our pen taker as he is just now and Costa can't come in and expect to take them either.

Maybe if Eden has a poor run or is not on the pitch he Costa will be the man but untill then Eden is Chelsea's pen taker.

I believe Eden has missed once that I recall, hitting the post. Even the best misses now and agian and hes never missed one in the prem. I doubt he loses that responsibility any time soon.

Fabregas can whip a corner in prwtty good, I think he will start taking them soon enough

The problem with him is that he aint no Frank. Modern day penalty takers cant go in with that attitude of "if the keeper is lucky he saves it". Ideally it should be someone who takes them fast and at difficult angles.

Personally I'm not a fan of "soft" penalties like how Hazard takes them. 

 

A well struck penalty, like how Lampard took a lot of his and also Hasselbaink and Lebouef took theirs means that even if the keep guesses the right way he still has little chance of getting to the ball quickly.

 

Hazard's technique seems to be about psyching out the keeper on who's going to move first and he tries to delay which way he kicks it until as late as possible. 

 

Maybe I'm too old fashioned in my opinion on penalties but I like a player who picks their corner and then thumps it there. 

The harder you hit it the less controll you have over the ball.

Hazard already knows what wat the keepers going with his technique and it works a treat.

I'm happy with him continuing.
