November 20, 201411 yr I thought you worked for The Guardian?!! :-) I did, then they made me redundant despite knowing me and the wife had just had our second child. But regardless as good as The Guardian sport pages are there is a hefty United bias on there especially anything Jamie Jackson writes. The van Gaal love in and constant positive spin of all things United can be sickening.
November 20, 201411 yr I'm very sorry to learn that re. the job. Van Gaal is having an easy ride from the media. He's broken the bank and Utd are not really where, for the money spent, you'd expect them to be.
November 20, 201411 yr Wigan's shirt sponsor has pulled out of it's deal with them over the Mckay appointment, What was Whelan thinking?

November 20, 201411 yr Wigan's shirt sponsor has pulled out of it's deal with them over the Mckay appointment, What was Whelan thinking? "We’re all against racism in football," Whelan continued. "If any Englishman said he has never called a Chinaman a chink he is lying. There is nothing bad about doing that. It is like calling the British Brits." He has to get sanctioned for his right?
November 20, 201411 yr "We’re all against racism in football," Whelan continued. "If any Englishman said he has never called a Chinaman a chink he is lying. There is nothing bad about doing that. It is like calling the British Brits." He has to get sanctioned for his right? Did he say that?!I'm anti Political Correctness but, even so, you should not express those views nowadays. He (Whelan) may end up doing more harm to McKay and Wigan than good. Edited November 20, 201411 yr by Spudulike
November 20, 201411 yr I pulled it from an interview posted on football365.com They don't make stuff up .
November 20, 201411 yr Falcao has suffered a new setback too so will be missing for a few weeks. What is going on at that club?
November 20, 201411 yr I pulled it from an interview posted on football365.com They don't make stuff up . It was a rhetorical question - soz. This will end badly for all concerned. What a mistake by Whelan.
November 20, 201411 yr Falcao has suffered a new setback too so will be missing for a few weeks. What is going on at that club? No one wants to play for them anymore. The whole team is pulling a RVP at Arsenal. Seems like as soon as they were out of it , he'd pull up lame for a few months
November 20, 201411 yr Whelan comes from a different era to us (me). I wouldn't call a Chinese person a chink but I think if he said it it wouldn't be in a derogatory way, just like Aussie, Taff or Paddy. Different eras.
November 20, 201411 yr Whelan comes from a different era to us (me). I wouldn't call a Chinese person a chink but I think if he said it it wouldn't be in a derogatory way, just like Aussie, Taff or Paddy. Different eras. Exactly. Journalism, the media and social media are entering a slippery slope in their kangaroo court justice system. Look at the headlines of the Whelan article then look at the transcript. He gave pretty straight answers at first and then was pushed further until he gave answers which people of a younger generation to him wouldn't give. Let's just chill. David Whelan is not a racist for making these comments. His interviewer should be ashamed really for pushing Whelan so far on the subject. His initial answer of Jewish people loving money, like everybody on the planet should have been suffice. I don't think he is wrong to hire Malky McKay. David Whelan is a pragmatic person and he understands that people say things in private to one another which they don't really mean but are saying as a joke. It doesn't make it right, but really that's how the world is. People are really losing the ability to contextualise. Malky McKay and Dave Whelan have probably done more for improving race relations than most of these journalists and social media activists. Jason Roberts response will be interesting.
November 20, 201411 yr You're not wrong but we know the media will leap on such remarks and create a sh*tstorm out of them. It seems to be how the media functions these days. I think you and Richard are correct about context but, these days, there's always someone who is happy to be offended. Never mind real news.
November 20, 201411 yr He's wrong for hiring him before the investigation is completed. If he's cleared then hire him , if he's not then you have a sh*t show starting.
November 20, 201411 yr I hate Mckay for what he said and I'm not Dave Whelan's biggest fan but I seriously hate this mob mentality from sponsors, media and patrons when any sort of bad publicity comes about, Similar to the Ched Evans crap, At first I hated the guy, Thought he was filth but after all the drama queen like behaviour of the patrons, sponsors and the fact Sheffield United have retracted their offer of letting him train, I actually feel sorry and want the guy to get back in football, Am I the only one here?

It's mass hysteria - people rushing to be sanctimonious and to a knee jerk reaction.
November 20, 201411 yr Surprised Whelan didn't mention his broken leg in the FA Cup Final in that press conference.
November 20, 201411 yr I see Sheffield United have buckled under the pressure. Edit: sorry, see it's already mentioned above Edited November 20, 201411 yr by Northerner
November 21, 201411 yr I think Arsenal will beat United with all United's injuries. Personally would love a score draw in that one. I fancy Sanchez to net a brace and Arsenal to win 2-1. Edited November 21, 201411 yr by Bobbywoodhogan
November 21, 201411 yr Actually think United will win it. They always seem to have the edge over Arsenal more often than not.
November 21, 201411 yr United fluked a draw against Chelsea, They lost to us via gaining a moral victory but in fairness were second best and naive, Van Gaal has had enough time to settle in, He needs a big game win, If it doesn't come this weekend how has he been any different from Moyes? Could Moyes have done any worse than what Van Gaal has done with the better quality of players available to him? I think so, If United get beat or beat badly this weekend, You really have to question what he has brought to the table other than his c.v.? But you watch how the United p.r. team try and spin a possible defeat on bad luck of injuries, Injuries are not bad luck in my opinion.
November 21, 201411 yr Mind you, As bad as this is, If United win, The uproar from the anti Wenger Arsenal fans will be too hilarious to not revel in Lol
November 21, 201411 yr Walcott is injured and won't be playing, seriously how many injuries do these 2 teams have? It's going to be reserves vs reserves if any more are out.
