If someone could do the research for all games in the league so far or perhaps just watch the Spurs game again, I would be willing to bet that refs get the majority of decisions right. It's just the wrong ones are easier to remember. 

 

Sorry mate you've completely lost the plot on this one. In any walk of life people doing there jobs are expected and will get the majority of decisions correct no matter what their occupation is. There then comes into play the mistakes that you expect to be sanctioned for, the written warning. Further down the line is the sacking offence.... the wheel falling of a car that has just been serviced for example. Yesterday we witnessed this in the Spurs game, the decision that no official should get wrong and as such the linesman should face immediate dismissal from his premier league status.

Gary Neville is probably the best pundit on TV, and has been since he started. Avoids getting personal, and gives well balanced views.

 

 

Totally agree with your view of Gary Neville. The fact that a pundit universally hated by all but United fans when playing gets such plaudits is praise enough.

I'm sure they do but that's not the point. This is a multi billion pound sport. It's high stakes every time teams take to the field so if officials can't apply the basic laws of the game it is a massive problem.

That's because he has far more time, and a larger team, to prepare and rehearse views, not because he's particularly better than Shearer, etc. Put him on MOTD and he'll look as bad as the rest.

But Sky's analysis has never been as good as it is since he joined, even his written articles are much better than those of his fellow ex pros.

Neville appears very meticulous with his research and he's head and shoulders above any other pundit in the country in my opinion.

Bollocks, Neville is quality pure and simple, he knows what he is saying, even his commentating in game besides the whiney voice he does offer a better insight than any other commentator.

 

It doesn't take preparation to not be a twat and get personal and show that you're really bias.

 

I would bet you any money on this planet earth that he would be the best pundit if he went on Match of the day.

He says the same thing during games that other commentators say/notice, just not in cliques like "he's almost hit it too well" and, Alan Shearer's favorite word, "that's poor defending, really poor", "poor pass there from ___", "really poor shot", "Got to be doing better, that's poor", etc.

 

Money I would happily take if you honestly think he could go on a show that's more focused on highlights than analysis and say something meaningful/convey his thoughts well within the 30 second to 1 minute they get on a certain topic with a fraction of the assistants he gets on MNF and only hours after the games have ended.

I'm not saying he's not a good pundit, cause he is and his level of research has elevated the show and allows him to convey his thoughts better on the show and in his articles. My point is more that the pundits on MOTD aren't idiots, baring a few such as Savage and the players who turn up now and then such as Kompany. They just don't have the time to pander to every need.

Think you guys are being a little bit too harsh to Phill Neville (in other topics too). He pointed out Swansea was playing horrible, but he also said he saw a different Chelsea today for wanting to score more goals after getting a 2-0 lead and that we were playing very well. 

 

Maybe they thought two pundits praising Chelsea was a little bit too much; putting the easy win into perspective isn't that wrong.

I do like David Pleat's voice/accent. Even though he can't pronounce "Willian" when he commentates our games, calls him "Willin" lol. I like Jon Champion too.
