Bit of a disservice to him, still the best manger on the planet for me. I reckon most Chelsea fans don't like him due to the Mourinho factor which I can't get my head around. You just can't plan for a player like Messi.

Pep can't beat his own team. I thought from his experience, he would know high pressing Barca for long period of time will be trouble. After surviving for 70+ minutes, I thought he would have defend deep to tough it out, even 1:0 wasn't all that bad. Tactical genius my @ss, even Sherwood would have a better game plan

at least, knowingly or no, this confirms that they knew we were robbed. Personally the only time I'm ever cheering on Barca is when they play a Pep Guardiola team.

Seriously, this ass kissing of Neuer has got to stop. He is good, but he isn't the best ever. Cech at his best is better than Neuer at his best. Everyone thinks that because he can charge off his line and make clearances he is so damn special. Footballers can catch him out if they use a bit of intelligence.

 

There has also been a lot of goals over the years that Neuer doesn't save when he actually should be, Hazard's goal in the Super Cup last season being the perfect example. He makes more mistakes than people realise.

 

He's a very very good goalkeeper, but saying he is the best ever and even best in the world right now is pushing it. I think it's incredibly hard to say one keeper is better than the rest, there are so many good keepers around right now.

Every goalkeeper makes the odd mistake but for his style of keeping and amount of risks he takes, he almost never gets caught out. He makes average defenders like Boateng and Dante look class by covering their ass time after time. Just about the perfect goalkeeper and I'm not sure who you can argue is at his level right now.  

If Ronaldo was a little more humble instead of making statues with big dicks and a museum for himself people would include him in the best ever debates.

Messi is touched by the hand of God. Those people who say Ronaldo is the superior player, know nothing about true footballing genius because that is what Messi has been tonight. Ronaldo may score a similar number of goals to Messi but that is where any equality of talent and ability begins and ends.

 

Well said. I'm a bit baffled when there is even an argument on a neutral forum.

 

They score around the same goals but Messi does so from less shots, gets more assists, creates more chances, takes on more players at a better rate, completes more passes at a better rate, makes more tackles, makes more interceptions. Also, celebrates teammates goals if that is important.

 

Oh yeah, but Ronaldo wins more aerial duels.

Find this thinking faulty. Does Maradona have to win the European Cup to be the greatest? Does Messi get to cheat in a World Cup?

 

The standard of this match is better than any world cup match you'd get because clubs are of a higher quality than international teams.

 

So in my opinion Messi gets to be called the greatest because he's done it at the very top level.

 

 

Haven't time to read through the thread but ill add my tupance here.

 

Messi with out a doubt is one of the best to ever play the game. But for me it's still maradona. You can't compare this CL to the European cup of the 80's and 90's. Additionally you can't compare the world cup now to back then.

 

But what I will say is that Maradona's napoli team was not as good as Messi's Barca team. The Italian League maradona played in was stronger then in terms of depth then the Spanish league that Messi is playing in. And the 1984 world cup was the Maradona world cup, for better of for worse. When his team needed him he stepped up. Messi as great as he is (and he's the best player of the last 15-20 years) has been lucky enough to have Ronaldinio, Henry, Eto, Neymar, Suarez play up alongside him, the names alone create space.
