Is There a Media Campaign Against Chelsea?

Featured Replies

There is also an article on whether or not Jose is good for the premier league, a couple of journo's say he is tarnishing the image of our league, but to be fair they are outnumbered by the others...

Quite an over reaction though...You'd think he got an opposition player by the throat the way they are carrying on...

I don't think he's tarnishing the image of our league, but he is tarnishing the image of our club, no doubt about it. I don't want people to remember this Jose era because he was 'a whinging fool' - I want people to remember it because of all the trophies we won and how we put teams to the sword.

I know some people on this forum are of the opinion no one likes us and we don't care but I'd rather leave that to those lot at Millwall. We all should care because we should want our club to do things the right way.

What do you think about the Ivanovic "bite" headline ?

Fair comment or Jose's fault ?

He's not bitten anyone - it's a slow news day in the sport department, that's all. Nothing will come of it and I doubt the FA are even looking into it.

But the point is that Jose has set the club up as a target for journos because of his dismissive attitude of them during press conferences. If you were one of them and was sent to Chelsea and faced him, you would probably take it all a little personally and that may well drive your agenda with him. So, no, it's not Jose who bit him, but Jose has wound the press up so much they will seek out any opportunity to get him back and get under his skin.

It's all very well thinking his attitude in press conferences is great - but you have to be very naive to think it will have no effect.

BTW - whatever happened to that bloke who called himself the 'happy one' ?

One little moan-up from me so please forgive me.

When Willian went off towards the end it was all a bit over the top for my liking.

His teammates were practically doing a lap of honour, and they all high-fived Willian as he trooped off, some of them walking quite a distance to do so.

I felt it was all a little self-congratulatory, bearing in mind there were two minutes left to play.

Edit: Maybe I'm too superstitious.

Or perhaps they had all been reading this forum and wanted to show some support and encouragement for one of our own who gets dogs abuse in here fro some people.

Very possible, yorkley.

I'm not naïve at all, but you can't have it both ways, by saying there is no agenda, but by then saying well maybe there is an agenda but its Jose's fault for upsetting the media...And reading some of the comments by journalists re: the tarnishing question, quite a few of them seem to enjoy his combative attitude, I know some of our fans don't have the stomach for it, but I secretly enjoy the chaos at times.

They say living well is the best revenge, well I hope in our case winning well, will be the best revenge...

Damn this lack of quote action, what am I doing wrong ? It always used to work.

p.s. I wouldn't say its a slow news day, Footie wise either, what with City putting 4 past Stoke away and Lambert being sacked.

The irony of that article is that without the likes of Jose half of those writers would be signing on because they'd have nothing to write about.

I don't think there is an FA agenda against Chelsea (Which is what Mourihno and so many people on here believe). I think there are some individuals in the media will do what they can to get under Jose's (and by definition our) skin. But the notion that is it the 'whole world' against us is laughable.

But he won't be though. The only people speculating he might be are people on this forum.

That's not true.

Daniel Taylor, for instance, writes this in today's Guardian ..

"Should Branislav Ivanovic be charged with violent conduct? José Mourinho, inevitably, says no. Yet Mourinho gives the impression that if one of his players were caught stealing flowers from a graveside he would excuse them on the grounds they were taking them to be watered. Ivanovic lost his control and there is one television angle where he can clearly be seen, having already grabbed James McCarthy by the throat, ramming his head into his opponent from close range. Roberto Martínez says it is a clear red card. Over to the FA’s disciplinary department – and prepare for the monumental strop from Mourinho if the correct decision is made."

Who remembers the Everton game at Goodison this season?

Tim Howard ran straight up to Dave very aggressively (lost his rag completely) and put his forehead into Dave's (not a headbutt but contact), right in front of the referee, I mean, two inches away from the referee, who was looking straight at it.

No booking (in fact Howard was already on a booking).

Same ref as last night, so be interesting to see if the ref says he would have sent Ivan off last night, if the FA are railroaded into asking him.

There was no mention afterward of it (the Howard incident) on Sky and neither manager was asked about it, there was no media hoohah, and therein lies the difference.

You say Jose deliberately got everyone talking about Ivanovic last night in order to deflect from the performance. You couldn't be more wrong IMO.

He didn't want to talk about it. The media did.

Edit: We get treated differently, clearly, as I've just illustrated, and he's as fed up with it as most of us.

As Journalist Martin Samuel said the other day, if the FA were not so inconsistent Mourinho wouldn't have any thing to complain about. But the basic unfairness of being able to go back and look at something the ref didn't see, but not to review something the ref DID see but got wrong, leaves the whole system open to claims of bias..

Samuels was also astonished when the FA changed their own rules to find JT guilty "on balance of probability" after he was found not guilty in a court of law, a prime example of good honest decent reporting once again by Samuels, who is not afraid to slag off Chelsea when called for, but will also stand up and say it when he thinks we are being hard done by..(and he's a West Ham fan in case anyone is interested)

I'm inclined to agree with this.

We all know that Jose just cannot help himself in creating a "siege mentality". I think he feels it helps to build an "everyone is against us" mind-set so that the players will die for the cause.

At times, he may well have a point but other times it all gets rather tiring.

I personally feel that the F.A. have to be careful with how they handle this latest incident.

They need to be more transparent and advise clubs and fans on how, why and when they analyse situations for retrospective action.

I know that Jose winds up the media but the fact is that several things have gone unpunished lately, many worse than Costa's or Ivanovic's actions.

The lack of consistency has been mind boggling.

If anything maybe the F.A. lack the resources to analyse every single match or situation and therefore only target those cases that are media driven.

If this is the case then Chelsea will continue to be targeted as the love-hate relationship between jose and the media will always make sure that incidents relating to Chelsea are in the spotlight.

The Pearson incident is the one that really grinds with me.  There can be no logical argument for Ivanovic being punished if Pearson is not.

Great post

Here's the picture.

Howard sprinted fifteen yards to confront Dave, he was already on a booking, he had completely lost it, and it was right in front of the ref.

I don't remember the media hoohah but maybe I'm just forgetful ..

If people are equating squaring up to a guy with their heads touching with what Ivanovic did then that's their opinion obviously, but it just doesn't chime with my experience of watching or playing sport.

Aggression is part of the game but I think Ivanovic went over the limit a bit last night.

The FA have done everything they f**king can to keep us from running away with the title this season as us doing so will plummet viewer ratings for their partners. Who would tune in to watch top-four games when we've already won the league?

I'm honestly not f**king surprised they're going after Ivanovic now.

I want Van Persie banned for blatantly elbowing a player on the weekend as well.

Two blokes squaring up is not the same as what Ivanovic did in my opinion.

McCarthy was not squaring up to Ivanovic. In fact his head was turned when Ivanovic moves his head forward.

It's a weak argument in my opinion

Please provide me with the link to the FA press release that says they are investigating that 'headbutt' . Because I am damned if I can find one.

This is the 'crux' for me, i think (for whatever reason) Jose has become surly, and arrogantly dismissive at press conferences over the last couple of months, and as crem says it would be naive to think it wont have a 'personal' effect on journo's in general.

I think they quite simply are beginning to dislike Jose and his attitude, and that is being reflected in their coverage of him and the club in general.

I don't watch his press conferences any more as i find most of them embarrassing, there just isn't any need for that attitude EVERY time (after all he is a funny intelligent guy).

And that is the main reason i think the press ARE jumping on us harder than anyone else, and we are getting treated harsher by the general media than other clubs at the moment.

It does wind me up, but as long as we go on winning they can all go f**k themselves !!

Ivan won't be banned.

It would be a new low from the FA.

Bearing in mind, he would be banned for the cup final. A high point in a player's career. It would be disgusting.
