February 11, 201511 yr You said ‘they give readers either someone to blame for their woes or someone to hate because people find that reassuring’, so they target a certain club, to give their readers what they want? That can easily be interpreted as a campaign. I understand that Chelsea will always get more attention than Burnely for instance, so there is a couple of new articles about us everyday, I struggle to find anything positive written about us, it would be a new experience to find a pro Chelsea article. So people read these articles and it's no wonder that they feel that there is a campaign, whether it's the correct term to use or not, Chelsea are definitely targeted, because people need a villain to hate. You're talking about a number of different things. No journalist is unbiased because that's impossible, but the discussion has revolved around an orchestrated media campaign against this club which is patently absurd. This all kicked off because Jose suggested that Sky Sports had drummed up a story about Costa stamping on a player but there are so many factors that go into deciding whether a story gets such prominence that have nothing to do with sinister ploys. The one agenda all media outlets have is gaining mindshare/market share. Campaigns/agendas against this club in particular are tin-foil hattery because the one thing people like is to think they're persecuted. Look at the Daily Mail or pretty much any daily newspaper, they give readers either someone to blame for their woes or someone to hate because people find that reassuring. It's much easier for people to blame some 'other' when things go wrong then accept responsibility fully. We're a massive club so anything we do gets more attention than it does at a smaller club and that goes both ways. So you get greater prominence for stories regarding our youth team but also more focus on our indiscretions simply because there's a greater level of public interest. But I perfectly understand the allure of a narrative about us being unfairly treated by the 'evil' media/FA (because every story needs a bad guy). Doesn't stop it from being wrong though. February 11, 201511 yr And still I'm deafened by Blue Dazes silence with regard to his media experience!
February 11, 201511 yr A campaign can be described as people pursuing a theme for their own gain. Blue Daze has said this himself. If it suits for example the Daily Mail (I could of chosen any media outlet) to portray Chelsea in a bad light as this will provide gain for themselves, then that can be regarded as a campaign!
February 11, 201511 yr It's like having your teeth pulled out reading some of these comments. It reminds me of Harry Enfields Kevin the Teenager. ITS SO UNFAIR! WHY, WHY, WHY.
February 11, 201511 yr It doesn't do us any favours when it comes to PR, having a manager who can come across as a bit of a knob. I like Jose, think he's a terrific manager, but hand on heart how many of us can say that if he wasn't our manager we wouldn't be wincing at some of his childish/petulant behaviour. That, combined with the perception of CFC being a bit of a ritch mans train set for a slightly dodgy Russian, makes us an easy target for sections of the gutter press
February 11, 201511 yr I know these things are supposed to even out, but the amount of 50/50 penalty decisions that have gone against us is crazy. Off the top of my had there has been 3 handballs against Newcastle, liverpool, and again tonight, you would at least expect to get 1 of them at home. Since the whole diving storm have we even had a pen?
February 11, 201511 yr Look at the Daily Mail or pretty much any daily newspaper, they give readers either someone to blame for their woes or someone to hate because people find that reassuring. And in one fell swoop, rather brilliantly, you've completely contradicted yourself. Top marks.
February 11, 201511 yr Blue Daze, you keep alluding to your experience in the media, so spill the beans! Or are you full of sh*t? You talking to yourself again, SP? You'll have to stop that.
February 11, 201511 yr You talking to yourself again, SP? You'll have to stop that. I have to. No one else is listening, just ask the wife?
February 11, 201511 yr And still I'm deafened by Blue Dazes silence with regard to his media experience! Sorry old boy. At the football so didn't respond. Chelsea were playing. I'll pm you my experience when I'm on the train home if that's ok? Davey, don't worry about posting yours.KTBFFH
February 11, 201511 yr FFS now the interviewer with Martinez is mentioning headbutt and strangling by Ivanovic. Its like their trying to find the smallest incident and blow it way out of proportions..
February 11, 201511 yr Davey, don't worry about posting yours. I'm not the one giving it the big "I am" on the internet.
February 11, 201511 yr If I'm being honest here, I don't believe in any of that sh*te about a campaign, well I guess we all have a different idea of a campaign. However I can't help but think if that was a Liverpool player nothing would be done about it and nothing would even be spoken about it. We might all be overreacting ourselves though, nothing has been done yet, I think with the F.A. letting Nigel Pierce off it will look terrible if they did Ivanovic for something which was nowhere near as bad. I say wait till the morning.
February 11, 201511 yr Please can the name of this thread be changed... Embarrassing. WHYYYYYYYY Richard that's just sooooooo unfair.
February 11, 201511 yr you BGB, bazza! And now Moi is calling me a BGB WHYYYYYYYYYYY is everyone ganging up on me?
February 11, 201511 yr And now Moi is calling me a BGB WHYYYYYYYYYYY is everyone ganging up on me? It's a campaign!
February 11, 201511 yr I'm not the one giving it the big "I am" on the internet. Pointing it that I have experience of working in the media when we're discussing the media is hardly giving it the big I am. Unless you think saying you've had a job before is showing off??I accept the charge of being a fancy Dan in that case. Not that it matters. Enjoy your night
February 11, 201511 yr Hard to talk about agendas in a match where the ref gave everything our way and even sent their bloke off. Obviously that won't get mentioned but thought he was incredibly kind to us all night.
