Is There a Media Campaign Against Chelsea?

Featured Replies

Atkinson refereed Southampton vs Palace last night and only gave a yellow for this..............

MotD had better do a feature on this tonight or I'll be seriously pissed off - again. They let Vertonghen (and the ref) off the hook for his unpunished shove on Noble. They have to expose what's going on, and they've got the evidence they need.

I hope Chelsea have contacted the FA about Atkinson over this.

Prepare to be pissed off then, because absolutely no-one seems to be talking about it.

Atkinson is incompetent.

Doesn't suit the media narrative that we're paranoid serial whingers.

More to do with nobody caring, not in the media, not on Twitter....nobody has even bothered to upload it to Youtube. Do you know how many cat videos have been uploaded to Youtube today? 1.2 MILLION. Obviously they aren't all funny but that's besides the point.

Perhaps fans can help dictate an agenda through the media.  I posted these stats across here a few times as well as across many DailyMail articles, including one on the Matic/Barnes fiasco by Martin Samuel which he used to create his latest debate piece.  I only used the group stages but he obviously has used the 1st leg of the last 16 too.  Needless to say, I dont think its a coincidence but rather a sign that us fans have the potential to steer the media towards discussions/narratives we want.

Edit: also spammed the stats on a few Guardian articles, no idea if that caught anything.

Our boy Barry got a shout out from Martin Samuel

The team who earns the most free-kicks, who has the most goals and points, who has the highest goal scorer and assist creator in addition to a player who has both the most dribbles and free-kicks earned in the final third. Yes, that team should clearly be bottom of the table for penalties awarded. People need to realise that Martin Samuel is raising a point for discussion, not sponsoring Mourinho's claims of an agenda. You can criticise the figures because of the sample size but it is a complete analysis of Premier League teams in the Champions League. It is certainly worth looking into because it suggests a huge statistical discrepancy. BarryBwana, Canada.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Barry. It was Barry who provided the statistics – we then cross-checked them, of course – that were the basis for the original article. So thanks Barry, I hope you saw your credit in the newspaper and online. Barry, you may have guessed, is a Chelsea fan. I’m not. I don’t think there is a conspiracy either. I do believe, however, that the point he makes is a valid one. It is an anomaly that a team that is shown to be attack-minded is not winning more penalties. If Eden Hazard is fouled more than any other player

Good work Barry, well done fella.

Thanks guys. Super pleased he decided to base not just an article on those stats but also his debate feature. Really rate Martin Samuel as I feel he is one of the few who looks to talk about what he feels is important/relevant instead of whatever is popular. He is certainly critical of Chelsea at times but I never doubt his sincerity in his stances. He's not just raking in easy points with the mob.

Oh my god, its really him, its the famous Barry. Please sir, can I have your autograph, I'm your biggest fan.

Well done though Barry, great reading.

Well done mate. Nice to see someone getting credit for backing up their views with facts.

How about instead of an autograph a deluge of semi-lucid and often outrageous forum posts? It's all dkw's fault guys, remember that :P

Oh bugger.

As usual the media all over our players for surrounding the ref. Yet they don't say the same when Man U do it every week. Seems whenever Chelsea does something were the enemy of football.

Also where was all the media when Man U players were diving about everywhere on Mon night?

Referee gave us a man advantage and a penalty last night, so focus on the media agenda.

When the media is on our side, focus on the referees being against us.

Always remember to wipe front to back.

So you don't think the media bias is wrong? Whenever we do something it's ten times worse than someone else. Would love to know when the media is on our side?

I think I and many others have simple established that referees are simply sh*t. Plus I never even mentioned the referee or the performance. I was posting about the bajillion headlines I woke up to this morning skating our 'disgraceful' behaviour, yet nothing gets posted or said about United players behaviour on Mon night.

So maybe get your facts right before making twatish posts.

This thread seems to be simply for people to moan about stuff that has no bearing on the game, because they can't take a bit of criticism from the press that they selectively read from.

I maybe understood the point of it when there was a perception that media bias led to referees giving us unfavourable decisions, but last night we got every decision our way so what is there to moan about? Oh right, a couple of negative headlines offending someone's sensibilities. So f**king what?

This. We were sh*t last night. We acted poorly. If the media want to have a go at us then they can as far as I am concerned. Let's stop this 'poor us' crap and concentrate on the real issue - our performances.

Nothing wrong with a bit of venting. Re name the thread to the moan thread and let people have a nice moan about certain double standards. Like the mildly peeved threads but for specifically Chelsea related things.

Very therapeutic.

From what I can tell, the moaning is because Carragher said something....oh no, someone had an opinion that I don't quite like. AGENDA!!!!!

Looking around the newspapers, their chief writers seem to be echoing a lot of the comments in the match thread and elsewhere.

There seems to be this thing in the club and the supporters that moaning about stuff that happens around the match takes precedence to what happens on it, and it's coincided with us playing some really poor football. I'll leave it up to the individual to decide how that correlation works itself out but it would be nice if we just focussed on what we did on the pitch because that's what might actually cost us the league.

Blue Daze,

Why are you shooting down people's opinions in that way? Can they not have that opinion without getting mocked 'playground style'?

You're absolutely right. I've deleted the end of that post where I called someone's post 'twatish' (sic).

Apologies.

I was talking more about a smilie picking petals off a flower and something about Carraghers mum?

Why always angry at everyone, trying to get your point across! Relax a little bit, it's just the internet. Every topic I'm reading this morning, you're throwing your weight around at people.

I'm actually agreeing with a lot of people this morning. Not entirely sure what this is about but surprised you haven't just PM'd me about it.

I'm not angry either - i was pissed off last night but we just lost a game. On reflection most people are saying the same thing and I'm agreeing with the likes of Blue Exile, Stim, Barak and numerous others. In fact the only person I've disagreed with is Bobbywoodhogan and my slightly childish response was after he characterised a post I made as 'twatish' (sic).

Like I said, this is rather bizarre conversation to have in this thread. KTBFFH and remember, Sunday's just a few days away. :good2:
