Is There a Media Campaign Against Chelsea?

Featured Replies

I honestly don't f**king understand what the British media and the Sky pundits want from their teams, A few weeks ago they were getting stuck into us for being too 'naive' and not 'shrewd' enough to win in Europe, Then when we have a team who does possess those traits you need to win in Europe, They also slaughter them, What do they want from their clubs? I'm getting close to the point where I no longer listen to pre match or post match analysis as it's all a bunch of sensationalized crap.

Did anyone hear Souness' rant last night? Go on youtube and type Souness tackle, The hypocrisy is wow, I found it absolutely f**king cringe worthy that for a big Chelsea game, They had a boring French Arsenal pundit and two scousers, You couldn't bring Jimmy Floyd/Michael Ballack or Ruud in alongside Glenn Hoddle or something?

Gary Neville (a Sky Sports pundit) said

‘Here, we’ve got a team that is shrewd. People at home might not like it but if the boot was on the other foot we’d be calling PSG shrewd. They play the game, that’s what you need to do in European competition over the last 20, 30 years. It’s different trying to gain those advantages.

‘I like the idea that it’s an English team that is shrewd and not the opposition. It comes from Mourinho, he knows how to play the game.’

I can't believe how popular this thread has actually gotten, I hated the thread since it first ever opened, the childish whine in the topic name just makes it even worse :laugh2:

Which question have I dodged? I'll answer it right now if I've missed it, and whilst I may be sarcastic at times I don't go down the route of name-calling because I tend to believe that people should act on here as they would in real-life.

You know what fair point on the name calling, I am sorry about that and I'll try not to do it again in future. I mean that sincerely aswell.

It was actually more that you dodged those articles posted to you by the other poster. It's not just Jamie Carragher having a go it's about consitency, United were a disgrace on Mon yet where have the media highlighted that? In short nowhere.

I appreciate that.

When it comes to United I think there's just so much else being written about their slump in form, Van Gaal, Falcao being a flop and dumped to the reserves, Di Maria looking to move in the summer etc. that they don't have to focus on these unsavoury aspects. At least that's my reading of it.

With us we were the highflyers and we got a nice ride from everyone up until Jose started talking about various conspiracies. That brings any misdeed we do into sharper focus.

There are some decent articles around concerning United and refereeing as a whole though

The issue of the thread title is a good one. Perhaps something less closed, more open. Off the cuff, ' Is there a campaign, what is the evidence?'

I like the evidence based approach because this could be used to approach the media in serious terms.

I said previously someone with the know how and time would be able to compare the words said and printed for top teams, and the type of language used alongside records of incidents (type, sanction).

There's a dissertation there for someone I'm sure.

What I wanted to no was why we showed no desire, we were just flat, if you are not pumped by winning your last game, at oh yea Wembley when are you ever gonna be up for a game, no wonder we has been slated, still got no rational explanation, and PSG weren't a far better team...

There is absolutely no campaign against us in the medai, however, obviously some of them don't like us and that's fine. But I don't understand why people are slating Souness and calling him anti-chelsea. He absolutely 100% is not, he's just an angry man who gets wound up at seeing things that weren't around in the 70s, last week he praised us saying we were miles ahead of City because of our incredible team-work, so in absolutely no way is he anti-chelsea.

I must admit I am changing my opinion about the media. I argued that there was no campaign against Chelsea and while I still think that is the case, I do think some outlets and individuals give us different treatment to other clubs.

Despite my previous comments, I heard today that the RTE media team called Mourinho the "cancer of football", which is bloody revolting. Sort yourselves out, pathetic bunch

if you don't believe their is a media campaign you really have to be stupid!

But why? When we play well we get praised and rightly so. I even remember on MNF after we beat Stoke thinking they were going slightly over the top with the praise. Also, when we play badly, and because of lasts nights disgrace, we will get heavily criticised and especially because we realistically were England's only hope. The only time I've ever pondered there being a media campaign is after the Liverpool match and the stamping incident, those who generally believe there is one and everyone hates us need to really think about what they're saying. Some people just wake up in the morning to be offended.

is that it? the liverpool game! what about the paris incident and the aftermath, how comes those 5 blokes were plastered all over the media, yet the spurs fan who assaulted, a blue on the platform at wembley, gets his face blurred out and is described as  a brawl? when it's an assault? why was there no relentless media pursuit  of west ham fans for singing anti-semitic chants on a packed train, why did no one highlight sideshow bob's elbow on costa? the matic tackle? match of the day showing costa sitting on the bench with jose at swansea, when we were 2-0 up when he was still on the pitch? i could go  on the list is endless! if you choose to believe  the media, then more fool you.

Who is behind this widespread media agenda against us and to what ends?

The only one who is worth listening to is gary neville, because he actually thinks and considers about what he has to say. the rest are not worth two bob, thierry henry, good player, against leicester and all, put him in a major final: sh*t himself. soon it will be are chelsea are a major  european player cos we don't spend enough on players, compared to man u, barca, bayern, and real, the press have never liked us since the seventies, ken bates had them worked out he took out injunctions for libel at the drop of a hat and ban reporters, the best time was when he put up the electric fence and the press started banging on about him treating fans like animals, he said "well you inspired it, last week, you had back pages calling our supporters animals for smashing up the baseball ground, so i thought i'd better treat them like animals' didn't have a lot to say about that the press corp!

It's not a campaign as such but the media aren't stupid, they know if they go on and on about stuff involving Chelsea that they'll be able to have some big headline from Jose Mourinho's reaction. If it's City they know Pellegrini doesn't make headlines so they don't go on and on when it's City etc.

There's also the problem that within the media there is a huge bias towards other teams, on TV it's Liverpool and Liverpool probably hate Chelsea more than any other club right now.

Who is behind this widespread media agenda against us and to what ends?

Who knows? man united are their golden boys, look at van gaal spent 5 times the money of moyes, worse record than moyes does he get stick? does he bollocks, if anyone else was pulling the sort of tactical sh*t of van gaal they'd be crucified. we are the millwall of the premier league. no one likes us and i don't care, thats why i watch american streams of football, it's not as biased.
