Is There a Media Campaign Against Chelsea?

Featured Replies

I've grown tired of hearing the media talking about us now. I just ignore 99% of sports news regarding us. I won't dare go near a sports radio station or sports news channel today in fear of what I might hear. It just grates on me so much.

Just stick to the decent writers.

So you don't think the media bias is wrong? Whenever we do something it's ten times worse than someone else. Would love to know when the media is on our side?

I think I and many others have simple established that referees are simply sh*t. Plus I never even mentioned the referee or the performance. I was posting about the bajillion headlines I woke up to this morning skating our 'disgraceful' behaviour, yet nothing gets posted or said about United players behaviour on Mon night.

So maybe get your facts right before making twatish posts.

In a week that saw Manchester United have a player sent off for man handling the match day official and another of their players fined and suspended for spitting at an opponent there was little to nothing written regarding their players conduct, especially when you considering Wayne Rooney, England captain was in the refs ear every time he blew the whistle against Arsenal.

Ref sends a player off against us last night for what at the time looked like a two footed tackle and is in the wake of Ashley Barnes getting away unpunished with a potentially leg breaking challenge on Matic.

In the first leg the PSG players kicked us all over the pitch, Hazard especially (who set a record for the Champions League in that game for a player fouled the most times in a single match) and they got away with a lot.

Determined to not let it happen again (the Barnes incident and the PSG match) our players did react, this we must remember is a team that has been denied stonewall penalties and wrongly received bookings for diving all season. The stats are there to back it up, we've had a raw deal with officials all season.... Finally something goes our way and we wake up to a barrage of critism of our team and players.

There is no consistency with the reporting. Because Chelsea are the pantomime villains of the Premier League, we're the team people love to hate, news outlets writes critical articles of us all the time because it's easy click bait.

We saw it with Costa "stamp" incident and we saw it with the Paris racism incident and now we're seeing it with Ibrahimovic's red card.

It's frankly tiresome.

By 'barrage of criticism' are you talking solely about Carragher and Souness's comments?

I am so sick of sky putting these bitter c**ts in charge of discussing our matches, they have no intention of speaking without their tribal instincts getting in the way.

I am so glad I dont pay for Sky.

Carragher is a decent analyst alongside Neville, and he did have a point with us not being loved but the rest of it is bollocks.

Souness I've always found to be remarkably fair to us and he's hardly the Scousers' favourite son. Having read his comments it seems more of a wider point about gamesmanship creeping into the British game, something that you'll hear many, many fans (especially of a certain age) bemoan so I'm not entirely sure he deserves that much criticism.

No I'm talking about things such as this from the "impartial" BBC.

Neither Phil McNulty now Mark Lawrenson are employed to be 'impartial', they're employed to give their views. This notion that simply because they're employed by the BBC they're supposed to be objective is a fallacy, but I can kinda understand the confusion.

Those sub-headings are quotes from Souness and Carragher which is a normal practice.

If you actually want the match report it's here.

Yep, feel exactly the same. I thought Jamie C embarrassed himself at halftime. His anti Chelsea biased was blatantly obvious for all to see. A total w**ker!

Why would I want the match report?

Listen Blue Daze I think you're a decent poster but when it comes to this thread in particular you do yourself no favours.

Someones says black, you'll say white regardless of the evidence.

The condescending tone of some of your posts isn't called for and you may not be surprised but I'm in no mood for it this morning.

Actually I'm fairly consistent on this topic. I asked you a pretty simple question whether this 'barrage of criticism' was based entirely on the Souness and Carragher quotes and you responded with a link to an article based on.....exactly.

Fact is most of the stuff I've read in the media today (and I stick to the decent writers) has been very, very similar to the assessment of those on here and leaving the ground.

Sorry if you thought my tone was condescending but I think any talk of agendas, either in the media or amongst referees is a little lacking in weight when you actually consider the facts.

Carragher did act the c**t last night, Souness much less so but I was honestly asking you whether the 'barrage of criticism' was simply coming from them....and I agree, I am a decent poster. :good2:

Lawrenson is, was and always will be a complete idiot and a total irrelevance in terms of footballing insight. I don't think he is necessarily biased (except in favour of Liverpool which is somewhat understandable), but his style has always been acerbic and negative, he can never wait to criticise any player or team and there's just no need for it. Give me the unadulterated enthusiasm of Jonathan Pearce over that souse any day.

Carragher on the other hand has always generally been fair towards us and has always been consistent in his condemnation of anything he perceives to be play-acting or detrimental to the integrity of the game. I may not necessarily agree with everything he said but I think he just called it as he saw it (and it's not as if I liked him as a player either).

Although if it makes everyone feel any better:

Find it strange that in a week when United have had 1 player sent off for spitting, 1 for grabbing the ref, and 2 players booked for diving, it is our players labelled a disgrace, for surrounding the ref because of what appeared a bad challenge at first glance.

Is it any wonder we put pressure on the ref to send him off after Barnes tackle on matic went unpunished.

Has anyone labelled us a disgrace except for Carragher?

As it is, Neville has taken the opposite view, so what we have here is the two lead analysts on a sports network taking the opposing view of an incident. That's a good thing isn't it?

That lawro is a prick, he's already used that stupid line and cliche before.

Can anybody remember when Oscar fell over and it was hardly a dive or anything really cynical, it was one of the first games he played in for Chelsea and Lawrensen had to use the quote that 'well he deserved an Oscar for this' just an absolute unfunny prick.

This thread seems to be simply for people to moan about stuff that has no bearing on the game, because they can't take a bit of criticism from the press that they selectively read from.

I maybe understood the point of it when there was a perception that media bias led to referees giving us unfavourable decisions, but last night we got every decision our way so what is there to moan about? Oh right, a couple of negative headlines offending someone's sensibilities. So f**king what?

If you don't like reading it then don't f**king bother instead of acting like a prick.

You could also say the same of the people moaning in the match day thread about those who are moaning.

I think and stand by my saynt there's been some overreactions on there but I haven't had a go at anyone for moaning. Also Blue Daze is very confrontational with his responses and Infact his first response was simply to be a sarcastic git and it adds nothing to the discussion. Also note when he's challenged he dodges most of the questions.

I think Blue Daze has a point, as much as it is unfair against us at times we are also playing the victim a lot.

It's good to have two sides of an opinion rather than everyone at it.

Which question have I dodged? I'll answer it right now if I've missed it, and whilst I may be sarcastic at times I don't go down the route of name-calling because I tend to believe that people should act on here as they would in real-life.
