December 22, 201510 yr Author I don't think this constant switching of managers will do any good for our youngsters. Chances are Guus doesn't really know any of them so I don't think they will get a look in anytime soon. Same problem will appear next summer when we bring someone else in again. Edit: just read an article (without source...) that Abramovic told Hiddink he needs to focus on the youth players a bit more. Hopefully there's some truth to it. I've been thinking about that. Can't help the youngsters with constant changes of head coach, and an interim is far from ideal as they can impress him only to have to then do it all again when the permanent coach is appointed. Of course whoever does come in will get reports and info from all the academy staff and coaches but he will still want to see players with his own eyes and form his own opinion. He will have a lot to see - the ones already involved in first team squad like RLC, Kenedy & Traore, then all the ones currently playing for academy teams. Finally all those out on loan both in the UK and abroad - that's a lot of talent to have a look at. I would imagine the majority will feel they perhaps have a better chance of doing something at Chelsea with Jose departing. It would be great to see one or two get some PROPER playing time and try and prove themselves.
December 22, 201510 yr Maybe Guus has been watching Baker and Solanke Well maybe, but Baker has spent most of his time on the bench lately and Solanke isn't really scoring any goals apart from a few penalties. I do think Solanke looks quite good by the way, Vitesse just doesn't suit him.
December 22, 201510 yr Read a few things about hiddink running the rule over our youngsters as he has been tasked with getting them into the 1st team the next few months, with musonda the main being the main to make a decision on whether he goes on loan or play.
January 11, 201610 yr Live on sky v Spud's tonight. And for those in the US it's on NBCSN. Glad I'm traveling tomorrow as that means working from home today.....
January 11, 201610 yr Some suspect keeping so far. And sky seem to have made a mistake and are showing Tottenham TV.
January 11, 201610 yr who is no.7? thought it was dasilva but he's lb. Reece Mitchell probably one of the older guys in the team at 20
January 11, 201610 yr What a bonkers game, some quality goals and some poor defending/keeping. Dasilvas goal was a belter.
January 11, 201610 yr Not a bad game at all some very exciting football, such a great advertisement for the BPL and its U21's in the first televised U21's game in America.
January 11, 201610 yr andros townsend is 21?! looks about 31. Nah he's 24. Think you can have one or two players that are over 21 in the team.
January 12, 201610 yr Author Blimey 5-4. Gutted I missed that, sounded like a cracker of a game. Great to be Sp*ds - at ANY level.
January 12, 201610 yr Nah he's 24. Think you can have one or two players that are over 21 in the team. didn't know that. kind of defeats the object of it being an u21 match then.

January 12, 201610 yr Nah he's 24. Think you can have one or two players that are over 21 in the team. New rule this season - only three teams have declined to play over age players since it came in, Chelsea Man City and Liverpool. Even Saints, with the Academy they've got, had the 32-year-old Fraser Forster in goal for them against us last week!
January 12, 201610 yr There has to be a method of giving players game time regardless of age. Players coming back from injury are often given a run out in the U21's and that's right, even top players earning top money have to be looked after when they're coming back from injury. Not sure that was the case with Townsend or if he just needed some game time for match sharpness. It shouldn't be a problem, the rule is there for all teams to use equally and as long as it's kept to a minimum number of overage players then I think it's the right thing to do.

Surely it would make sense if one of our key players was out with a bad injury for a while but was coming back and needed some match fitness, to be able to play him in the "reserves"? Are you telling me we no longer have that option? If that's the case it seems ridiculous. I'm all for youth, but we have an U 18's, U 19's and U 21's and I thought it was the U 21's where you could play the odd senior squad player if need be?
