Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

^ Agree 100%. If we can sort out the supply line i.e. The right wing, you potentially have a 20goal scorer. I'd rather pay big bucks on Lukaku than on Morata. One is a little proven PL goal scorer, the other is an unknown & has never hit 20goals before.

I really hope we don't sell him because the thought of Lukaku, Bats and Traore up front fills me with fear. Compare that to other teams, it's sub standard.

It's not sub standard, its young and unproven and too early to tell, they could end up legends, who knows ?

I do have to defend lukaku a little here as at his age his goal scoring stats are impressive. 78 goals and started 136 games since playing in England. Where was costa at 21/22? I think people do unnecessarily sh*t on lukaku but he's a striker, and his goal scoring stats prove he's been consistently good in his career for his young age.

Can't deny the goal scoring but too little elsewhere in his game for me. You've seen with Belgium he struggles to lead the line and I suspect the same would apply here. We need link play not just someone who scores.

I'm all for keeping Diego. He's one of the best in the world despite his flaws. Took us a long time and lots of money to find one after Didi got old, not keen on going down that road again.

But if he wants to go, then I think we already have the best striker in Belgium no need to massively overspend on Lukaku. Look for a complementary option to Michy, maybe Gabigol or perhaps a hybrid like Fekir. Dare I say it we could even just give Traore and Solanke a go....

I agre sub standard is a hell of an overstatement and they are young so as you say who knows. But I don't think right now it's good enough to win the league.

I hope he stays, he's experienced and world class, but it wouldn't be terrible if he goes since this unique season where we don't have CL football gives us this rare breathing space to give a chance to our young strikers.

It would be bad if we signed Lukaku to replace him though, I really hope that does not happen.

We're going to end up paying stupid money to replace a proven striker with one that's shown no sign of being better. He scored a lot for Everton because he gets a huge amount of space as teams don't play defensively as often against them. With his consistently bad first touch and questionable work ethic, I can't see him being the player we need when a team has 10 men behind the ball.

Not to mention it just looks bad paying huge amounts for a player we sold (who hasn't even had a Matic style transformation). I thought our terrible transfer decision days were behind us...

I really hope Diego stays, Conte didn't fill me with confidence when he said he doesn't know if Costa will still be with Chelsea at the beginning of the season.

If we buy Lukaku at that ridiculous price, we don't deserve to be a top 4 team this  season, sorry. Lukaku as our main striker??? From Drogba / Torres, etc?

We will be the laughing stock of the EPL.( bar United for their deal on Pogba if it happens )

I am not Lukaku's biggest fan but what a ridiculous overreaction. The laughing stock if the EPL? Get a grip.

I don't massively rate Lukaku's overall abilities but he's consistently been one of the top scorers in the EPL he's going to command a huge fee. We're in a time where everyone is overpriced.

I overreacted a bit i agree, just trying to make the point we will look really bad if we buy Lukaku at that price and to lead our line. If Lukaku reflects our ambition, I am not excited about the future.

If costa leaves who would you teplace him with?

I agree. Shouldn't have let him go in the first place and I'd welcome him back but not at that silly price

Maybe lacazette,or make a deal with atleti that'd look like costa+20m=griezmann

No chance of either happening, be realistic.

Greizmann has just signed a new contract, and the lyon president said lacazette is going nowhere.

I'm sick of all this transfer talk. I couldn't give a crap if we win nothing. It's time we invested in OUR youth. I also think it's time John Terry started working with our youth team to teach them about attitude and heart!

Generally there is a limited number of good strikers guys

If juve can offer 94m euros for higuain,i'm sure we could make a 70+m pound bid for a top striker like griezmann

After all chelsea is the club that bought torres for 50m in 2011

But you have forgotten one vital thing, they are players who want to play on the big champions league stage, something we cannot offer this season or guarantee for next.

The difference being in 2011 we were a much more attractive proposition, with less competition for the top players, and we were financially stronger than nearly every other club.

Why would greizmann want to leave atletico, to come here?

And that was my point about us going for Lukaku, what does it say about Chelsea's ambition as a top club? do you think the likes of Bayern, Real, Atletico, Barca, etc would buy a player like Lukaku? It kind of automatically puts us in the second tier, doesn't it?

We are in the second tier though. If we can get back into the champions league for next season, maybe then we can start to try and match the ambitions of the likes of the aforementioned teams.

We are kidding ourselves if we think we are even close to them at the moment.

I'd preferred if Costa stayed, but if Conte is not happy and he wants another option, this time I think the Club should back up Conte. We know how well Conte can play with a team of his choosing, we've enjoyed seen Italy recently, thus, we should trust Conte's choices. If he wants Lukaku, let's give him Lukaku. If Costa is creating an atmosphere in the team and Conte is not happy, lets trust him! (And I am the first one that don't rate that much Lukaku, but I trust Conte's decisions because I think he can take us back to top four)

I don't get these "I really hope we don't sell/keep hold of Costa" comments, if the player wants to leave he can s*d off to Bermuda or wherever, would drive him to the airport personally for free. Crazy world footballers live in, given amounts they earn and yet not one ounce of loyalty to their employers.

Should Conte hog-tie him, so he can stay?. If he wants to leave, he can f**k off.
