Left too early (the season before). 

If he was so shocking, then why did he score so many great goals and win the golden boot in 2001? A ‘shocking player’ doesn't socre the type of goals that he did, he was a very talented player and one who I'll always admire.

I don't know, Jimmy drove me nuts.. Lazy, couldn't head a ball, arms in the air non stop... Shocking! Scored goals some how though

Ok you can make a case w/ Danny Boy Stud & the Uruguayan Vampire. For my money, it's Jimmy & Eidur. Yes, I do view life through Blue Tinted Spectacles

 

 

Im also heavily blue tinted but you have to be realistic. I always believed that despite his goals we would probably never challenge for the title with Jimmy. He didn't really turn up all that often in the big games and was to lazy. 

 

Compare it to Bergkamp and Henry who won a few titles for arsneal, and I'm pretty sure Shearer and Sutton will have more goals as well, also won a title. Jimmy has won one cup his whole career, despite his goals his A.madrid team got relegated and he was never really trusted as a starter for holland. Reason being, he was not a team player, he was lazy. Fine on TV, he looked pretty good picking up the ball and striking at goal. Had an excellent shot on him. But every time I got to see him play live I had my head in my hands wandering why he just wouldn't run!

For me the only debatable positions are the center mids. You could use Essien or Ballack, or go for a 4-2-3-1 and put joe cole or Eduir behind the striker. At a push replace robben with cole and put Eduir behind the striker to accommodate both

I wouldn't play a formation like that, instead I would play our current formation but have Lampard deeper next to Maka, then have have robben RW, Hazard behind Drogba and Duff as LW. Also, as much as i love Ivanovic, i would rather have azpi at RB. It is a tough one because you're leaving out many players, but that would be mine. I really had to include Hazard in, and Duff and Robben were phenomenal for us and really gave us incredible width offensively.

To be fair, he was one of my childhood heroes, along with Zola, before I got older and started going to games. He may have been a little lazy, I don't agree that he wasn't a team player, in fact I think that's nonsense, he linked up very well with Eidur, they were a great team. I think he was a much better player than you're giving him credit for, he did a lot more than you suggest, his free kick ability springs to mind, he was a natural goal scorer, his hatrick against Spurs is probably the best hatrick that I have seen. Like I previously metioned, you don't win the golden boot if you are as bad as you make him out to be, especially in a time when Henry was playing.

Jimmy was a pretty limited (and lazy) player who had a wonderful knack for scoring goals, a bit like Inzaghi. If he wasn't scoring then his contribution was minimal. Don't get me wrong, I loved his goals and I like the bloke. I couldn't see him in a Mourinho team though.

I'm not sure about him being limited, but I'll take your point on his workrate, I know at the time people called him lazy, but he scored so many goals that I don't think it's much of an issue. Balotelli is lazy, the difference is that he has no end product, Hasselbaink was a goal machine.

You might not want to take my word for it but the fact is Jose clearly deamed him to lazy within about 5 miniutes of walking through the front door and told him to find another club. Reason being Jose rearlised you can't win a league title with Jimmy as your front man, largely, because he's not a team player.

My team, except I'd swap Carvalho with Gallas, who IMO was the better centre half and had a magnificent partnership with JT. They were nigh on impregnable.

I take your points, I do like to go back and watch Hasselbaink's goals though, he scored some crackers and I'll always be fond of him.

Kezman came with a good reputation and I actually feel may have delivered more with another season. He got in the goal scoring positions it was just his finishes would often hit the post or the bar.
